I want to read about these aspects of Nietzsche's philosophy:

>Religion
>Tradition
>Culture
>Alcohol
>Becoming the Ubermensch

Basically the practical stuff, real ideas. I don't really care about anything else that isn't going to affect my daily life (metaphyisics, ontology).

What do I read?

Nietzsche solved philosophy. Talking about anything else is a waste of time.

So I hear this is the smart board. Any tips on how I can improve my food reviews? Also what's your favorite food related book. Here's the review. 3/5 PIZZA libretto

GOOD BUT NOT GREAT PIZZA. A place you eat if you are in the area, but don't actively search it out. THE ZA pizza diavola buffala mozzarella, peppers, olives and spicy meat. THE SAUCE was okay, not salty, on the sweeter side but also not very flavorful. THE CHEESE was bland af barely noticed it. THE CRUST wasn't very tasty, it's thin yet flimsy and seems to get really soggy fast af. THE TOPPINGS were yummy, they were a good combination for sure, just wish there was more of them! THE SIDE DISHeS are really good! But this is a pizza place so who cares right? But yeah the side dishes are yummy. The meatballs were delicious holy shizz. Hook me up to an I.V. and pump my veins full of balls plz. Gf had caprese salad. Tasted good. The restaraunt itself is really nice. Very spacious. The staff are friendly and fill up your water regularly. The food came out fast when we were there. So yeah it's a good pizza but nothing special. If your in the area and craving pizza drop by, but I wouldn't make pizza libretto a place you drive out of your way to come too

No one gives a shit about your opinions. Increase your knowledge of food. It's an evolving and unending art. Saying that the pizza place uses too much sauce isn't interesting to read.

People who review food are fucking dumb. People who read food reviews are barely passable for human beings.

Read white heat by Marco pierre white to make my post /lit/ and not hateposting
>>
It's not about the reviews. Anyone can write a "good" or "bad" review, but who will be listening and what will make you worth people's time are the two things you should be worried about.

If you mean how to write technically good Food reviews? Become a chef or start cooking and taste good and bad food. Then you will know what you're talking about instead of just using cool descriptors of what people should be tasting for themselves.

>>

any context for the photo? Why do you have this photo? Do you have any idea what kind of book it might be?

My guess is that it's a religious hymnal. The warped binding indicates it's been opened and held open regularly and repeatedly. The cloth bookmarks are also common in hymnals.

The symbol is a harp, which would also line up with it being a book of music.

Do you realize the illicit sensuous delight I get from picking my nose? I always have, ever since I was a child. There are so many subtle variations of sensation. A delicate, pointed-nailed fifth finger can catch under dry scabs and flakes of mucous in the nostril and draw them out to be looked at, crumbled between fingers, and flicked to the floor in minute crusts. Or a heavier, determined forefinger can reach up and smear down-and-out the soft, resilient, elastic greenish-yellow smallish blobs of mucous, roll them round and jellylike between thumb and forefinger, and spread them on the undersurface of a desk or chair where they will harden into organic crusts. How many desks and chairs have I thus secretively befouled since childhood? Or sometimes there will be blood mingled with the mucous: in dry brown scabs, or bright sudden wet red on the finger that scraped too rudely the nasal membranes. God, what sexual satisfaction!

>ITT: Song lyrics you believe embody /lit/

Mandala by The Dear Hunter

I lost my place in the world;
it left me behind.
Now my soul is unbound
and my mind is free to roam
around, around, around, around, around, around, around around

Thoughts drip down to words on a page scrawled in a foreign tongue.
Circles tending toward the center lead you back to none.
You can cry, you can beg, you can plead, you can pray...

You may doubt it, apathetic,
but you never had control.
You saw what you wanted,
but the rest was terrible.
Pull back the curtain
and reveal the guilty, so
the veil can be lifted.
The well will overflow.

You've been here before.
You've seen it all
but your conscience won't recall.
And your eyes are barely wide enough
to recognize what your heart keeps giving up.

And someday it might win
if your mind's giving in.
Just try to lose yourself;
or do your best till then

I know so many people who think they can do it alone
They isolate their heads and stay in their saftey zones

Now what can you tell them
And what can you say that won't make them defensive

I know there's an answer
I know now but I have to find it by myself

They come on like they're peaceful
But inside they're so uptight
They trip through their day
And waste all their thoughts at night

Now how can I come on
And tell them the way that they live could be better

I know there's an answer
I know now but I have to find it by myself

Now how can I come on
And tell them the way that they live could be better

I know there's an answer
I know now but I have to find it by myself

Why is, for instance, Borges, not considered a science fiction writer while PKD is?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9224148
Haven't read any Borges, but PKD (from the ~5 books of his I've read) always writes firmly in the sci-fi idiom and uses sci-fi settings, tropes, etc. (e.g. "I got into my hovercar") even if his themes are different.

This sort of thing can sometimes be a result of the writing as well. For instance, if Borges is good enough to be lumped in with "serious literature" instead of sci-fi. PKD is cool but honestly a poor writer, stylistically.

genres are just marketing techniques. A publisher/author looks at how they think the book will be best recieved by people who hold steadfast to their preferred genres.

Sometimes it also has to do with what else the author has written. By the time Burroughs wrote Naked Lunch, he had already written Junkie. He established himself as a writer of "literature" and not "science fiction".

If Naked Lunch was his first book, he might get classified as primarily a science fiction writer who wrote a few non-fiction autobiographies.

Not murican, so excuse me if the answer is simple to everyone making kindergarden over the pond, I'm just wondering why were beatniks so much better in literature than the subsequent hippies? I everywhere else the hippie movement was larger. Music, art, film, even influence, but in literature they have nothing. Shitty Cuck Nest, and hardly even hippy, Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, and that's it. Absolutely nothing else that you can tie it to them. At the same time you have Burroughs, and Keroack, both with huge and influential opuses, and then also Ginsberg, and Corso. I'm not saying the quality is up there, far from that, but but compared to hippy literature, it's like oasis versus desert. And as soon as 60's ended you again have lit yearning for them, and it's actually half decent, but from the them nothing, as if everyone had their heads too fried up from all the dope they took.

Beat literature and poetry was good because they were revolting against the conformist society of the 1950s. So what they said was defined by that society and culture and their rejection of it.
Whereas hippies weren't really revolting against society- they had created a new subculture. It was also a much more populist movement. So they were really exploring new ideas, like Eastern religion, psychedelics, new music, etc. I would say they didn't really have any passion or need for literature.
>>
>>9223933
Many of the beatniks also attended prestigious universities, like Ginsberg and Burroughs. The hippies were too busy living their culture, not mediating their feelings through art.

You might think the Beatniks had a superior culture from the perspective of creative output, but the hippie movement had a much greater impact on society and politics as a whole. The beatniks inspired many hippies, but they didn't do much else. Whereas you can consider the hippie movement responsible for a new era of sexual politics and the end of the vietnam war.
