What are /lit/'s thoughts on this? My friends are currently hypebeasting this hard. Some elements seem interesting based on a quick flip of the pages, but it gives off the ghastly air of shallow novelty that is pretty much Reddit's essence.

You just typed Hypebeasting
>>

Fair enough, that is a pretty autistic term to use. Though you do have to admit that one of the reasons why people hate reddit is that they appraise spectacular novelty rather as opposed to the actual quality of the works.

Hence why shit like this is a thing:

I found the Navidson Record to be very enjoyable, well-written, and genuinely unsettling, but the parts with Johnny whatshisface are fucking insufferable. They don't even feel thematically linked to the Navidson Record.

What should I expect reading this?

I haven't read a book by a woman in a decade. I fool myself into believing I'm becoming well rounded while simultaneously ignoring the collective perspective of half of the human population. Every time I walk into the library this piece of shit is staring at me from the rotating display tower. Is it worth a read? I might just read some Ursula Le Guin instead.

Are these books legitimately good, or are they only popular because of the games?

They are good in original . Translation to english is terrible - as its loosing its climate and style . not the fault of the translator - i would say , but rather the language . Apparently spanish and Russian translations are good .

in polish 10/10
in english 6-7 /10
>>
The short story collections are pretty clever and interesting.
The main novels on the other hand are so damn bad I can't believe they're by the same writer.

Yes, nobody would've cared without the games.

It's genre fiction. Go to your containment thread, little boy.

Does the NRx stuff have any intellectual value or is it just an ebin internet meme?

>>

depends if you think neoliberalism has value
>>
>>9291039
a bit of both. its good to have some degree of acquaintance with them because their influence is becoming pervasive

e.g. NRx is largely responsible for the concept of "virtue signalling"

it has much more value if you dont know whats it about

Did you read it? If you did you would know he didn't actually believe that, but was presenting all of the scenarios that could possibly lead to genuine epistemological skepticism and attempted to refute them
>>
You don't use logic to get an idea of God. You just find the idea in your own mind. It's like doing maths and realizing you have the idea of infinity without having ever perceived anything infinite, and without understanding how you could have invented this idea yourself.
What you say is legit regarding Descartes' proof of God, that is actual not valid. I think most people admit it. The argument of the dream is correctly discarded by Descartes, but the argument of the evil demon is not. - However, it's not relevant regarding the cogito itself, which does not rely of any specific idea.

The reason anime is popular is because it represents the Platonic Form of the article, the phenomenon it is representing.

Consider the loli. Young children are generally crying, screaming, emitting some fluids, or a combination of the three. The loli is cute, cares for others, and is well behaved and polite, how any parent wishes a child would be.

When you see friendships in anime, of cute girls doing cute things, anyone can realise this is nothing like any real teenage girl. This is how you, or anyone, wishes a friendship was. Harmless fun, with no effort, social sidestepping, gossiping or backhanded insults. Just pure fun. The Platonic Form of friendship. No true friendship can approach this pure untainted form in our dismal world.

>I hate students. They are mostly stupid and boring.

>I did teach a class here [at the University of Cincinnati] and all of the grading was pure bluff. I even told students at the New School for example… if you don’t give me any of your shitty papers, you get an A. If you give me a paper I may read it and not like it and you can get a lower grade.

>I can’t imagine a worse experience than some idiot
comes there and starts to ask you questions, which is still tolerable. The problem is that here in the United States students tend to be so open that sooner or later, if you’re kind to them, they even start to ask you personal questions [about] private problems… What should I tell them? I don’t care. Kill yourself. It’s not my problem.

/lit/ can be great if you make an effort to start conversation, man
I've spent entire days debating over books and philosophy here, it's actually really helped me form my ideas

Uh. I'm a blue-pill social dropout. I have a copy of Nicomachean Ethics though. Should I start there in trying to correct my dismally retarded mind? I'm looking at the recommended reading too.

My ambition is to not be a retarded, intellectually neglected idiot anymore. Mid 20s. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Bump to shamalesly request a book related and that I can't find anywhere to download.

Righteous Indignation, Andrew Breitbart.
Plz guys, not available in my country.

>>9290923
Also, thanks for this suggestion. I see them in the suggested reading list. Can you explain to me how this will help me? I'm not asking you to do so rhetorically. I really want to know why it's important.

Will Nicomachean Ethics help? At all?

Also, will taking notes and writing about what I'm reading help me learn? How should I study?

I'm graduating later this year (Philosophy major) and am really interested in following the academic path and get a Masters/phD. I spent my early 20s wageslaving and got into college too late.
