Does a writers appearence matter, or do they write because of how they look? What if the next big writer was as big as Schwarzeneggar, would anyone take him seriously as the representation of an image has been flipped?
I'm torned. I feel like this question is both interesting and uninteresting, and I don't know what to say about it.
Genetic modification will make this possibility a reality, and then you'll see. It matters slightly, only for the uneducated. But...
'For at bottom the masses are willing to submit to slavery of any kind, if only the higher-ups constantly legitimize themselves as higher, as born to command—by having noble manners.'
If such a person has noble manners they will submit to him anyhow.

Yes, if the author has breasts and a vagina then it's usually not worth reading.
Hunter Thompson said when he was younger he would copy an entire book word for word (Great Gatsby and Sun Also Rises)
Do you think that would be completely pointless, or do you think it has some merit?
It depends on the person. It could really change a writer's perspective on literature but it would mean nothing to a brainlet with a low attention span

>listening to Hunter Thompson
guy was literally nuts
It's pointless and most of all boring.
>The fall (bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonner-

nuk!) of a once wallstrait oldparr is retaled early in bed and later
on life down through all christian minstrelsy.
Did he just smash his head on his keyboard? Literally any child can do that. It's just like modern art, where any piece of shit is considered to be a work of art. So can someone tell me what makes this guy great again?
Joyce trolled marshal McLuhan with this shit, so he just have been onto something

The arse full of farts
you have to read it with a thick Dublin accent and then it makes absolute sense.
"I hate how life-apologists say (or rather, the very few of them who do anything other
than mock you), ""Life isn't all suffering. What about the simple pleasures, like eating ice
cream?""
They always use that example. Even if I didn't recognize the flaws in their assertion, when think of ice cream, I can only see a repugnant lump of pus crushed out of cows' bloody
nipples, who spend their entire lives confined in filth, where they're periodically raped so
that they're incessantly pregnant, after which their calves are seized from them, destined
to live the life of veal, with their only relief being an early death. From there, I always ride
the pessimism train down different tracks until it inevitably leads me to contemplating
over 500 million years of animals cannibalizing each other. Excuse me for not being
thrilled by the extra jimmies on my ice cream cone." -Adam Lanza
He had nice prose.

Who is that fucked up autist? I could stick my cock in his ass until I hear him screaming and puking blood

I copy and pasted wrong the actual quote is "when I think of ice cream..."
Anyone who refers to sprinkles as "jimmies" is a fucking psycho

Where's David Foster Wallace?
Can you redpill me on these books?
I want to play the games and I've read that they get referenced a lot, but I've also read that they are generic fantasy books and generally poorly written, and I don't really feel like spending money on that.
>>9309669
You dont need to have read the books to understand the story of the games, the first one is pretty shitty though. I liked the books when I read them although they had their flaws a mary sue-character for example who gets added in later parts. Also keep in mind that I was 15 at the time. Its definetly a lot darker and edgier than classic fantasy, if thats a pro or a con is up to you. The german translation was pretty good from what I remember, cant say anything else about other languages. These books are not master pieces, far from it but you could do much much worse.

Just try reading the book you posted. If you don't like it at first few stories in, drop the series. Keep reading until you stop enjoying them.
How does /lit/ feel about biblical angelolgy? It seems interesting af. Any good books on the subject?
Pic related is a Throne.
i don't really care about angels, so i can't recommend you anything. but why are you interested in them?
>>9309563
It's early fanfiction. Cool stuff, but not theologically supported.
Have you read the book of Revelations? A lot of ideas about the world beyond ours come from there.
>>9309921
Because angels referenced throughout the Bible, which I'm currently reading. Angelology is comparable to Greek mythology in some ways. Also, I think it fascinating that angels are so different than human anatomy. They're so alien-looking.

Not yet, friend. I'm only on the book Isaiah right now.
Post your guilty pleasures. Pic related.
guilt is a spook for beta males
The first Magic The Gathering book, Arena I think, is amazing and the comfiest book I've ever read. Definite guilty pleasure
I went for a walk and I found this on the ground. Should I read it?

Of course. Such coincidences are never without meaning.

How the hell can Dostoyevsky say that we can achieve redemption through our suffering? Who the does he think he is? This is probably the one thing that I don't get about him, I think it's shitty to try and romanticize suffering.
Jesus suffered
>>9307640
You gotta think about the cultural context in which he lived, anon.
>>9307640
This was Dostoevsky trying to be deep, he was very bad at it. His best books are satirical.
The age old debate. Weigh the pros and cons of both. Talk about which ones you prefer or use more, the differences you've encountered between the two when it comes to your reading (and annotating process, if you do that), etc.
Paperback vs. hardback? New vs. used? Great places you've found physical books for cheap? Or what about your preferred e-reader brand?
Let's have it.

eb00ks by cause iam(me) fucking poor i dont have library-book-store near my house
As someone who steals all forms of entertainment, books are the only exception. I can't really put a finger on why, but ebooks makes the whole experience of reading feel inauthentic. Many a time have I tried to read ebooks when I was out of money and the library didn't have the book I wanted, but I never get far.
The formatting of ebooks usually triggers me.
How do you dispose of books?
Is it fine enough to recycle them? Or simply throw them out?
>>9307190
Books should be returned to the earth via burning

>Go to used book store
>Acquire store credit
>Buy more books

What are /lit/'s thoughts on nicholas carr's the shallows?
Reading it now and wondering what others think of it
>>9307070
I tried reading it but I kept losing attention and browsing 4chan instead.
>>9307081
lmao great banter
Been put off reading it just because it was published in 2012, idk feels like the internet has moved on a lot since then. Pretty open to being talked round though
