Are there any books about the hoods? Ghettos? Life growing up with gangbangers and drug dealers?
Basically pic related if it were a book.
James Baldwin is OK
Jason Riley's Please Stop Helping (or something) is a bit of a neocon shill perspective but still pretty good for the autobiographical shit that doesn't glorify self-destructive nigger culture, like that worthless sack of shit Coates does

what genre is this? i can't find it at all
I want something like a memoir of growing up in the hood.ghettos of california or new york during the 80s/90s
iceberg slim and eldridge cleaver apparently deal with this type of stuff, though i haven't gotten around to either yet

The back says "cover illustration shows st. Augustine in the region of dissimilarity, taken from a fifteenth century manuscript. Laurentian library, Florence, cod 1208, fo 132r."
funny story about this
>on cruise on Royal Caribbean ship with my family when i got this book on kindle.
>legit got so hooked on the book that my dumb-ass would stay in the library section of the boat to read it for hours instead of going on deck and drinking with senpai.
> my dad asked if i wanted to get off the boat at Aruba to do excursions and do shit and I said no so i could continue to read the book
> My dad's face of disappointment as he said ok and turned away from me to leave.
>After that i moved away and we don't speak anymore. Been about 4 years since
>To this day i wish i got off that fucking ship to be with him but decided to not be with him to read the book
But yeah this is a good read and recommend this greatly written story to you guys.

I watched that movie accidentally while on a very high dose of acid, I thought I clicked on a nature documentary. Instead, I got a terrifying french animal rights/mindfuck animation.
Also congrats, you've made it more than most people here.

Creepy, but at the same time campy, amusing. It reminds me of that Power Ranger head thing the rangers serve/take orders from.

Zordon. Trip fags are such annoying attention whores.
What I say amounts little to what I never may say,
like polishing dunes as do fine Yggdrasil ash.
And like a lubber, I'll fool the sky-tomato mix with the grain
- both or either the grains, now's the world out of land.
(My sail is a color, and the soup is warm too.
And the color is orange wishing you were here too.)
What's the time when you're lost? Time is hot as sand
when its gear tires chewing a day's bark off the main.
(The ship is all hull. There's no sense in it.
This is all a bad dream, I should wake out of it.)
Anticlea can embrace the wind, and I
have no warmth at sea, nor scent of orange.
>O shining Odysseus, never try to console me for dying. I would rather follow the plow as thrall to another man, one with no land allotted him and not much to live on, than be a king over all the perished dead
What did he mean by this?
He wanted to get plowed by Odyssey man but he died instead

Achilles meant that Life, warm and palpitating, is regardless of whatever trying circumstances the.. thing.

He was renouncing kleos... kind of a big deal coming from Achilles.
What am I in for?
Is it like the Oedipus style, because that style I could at least follow the story
Definately a better experience than reading Proust or Kierkegaard y

Don't bother, don't waste your time, buy a house in the country, work a shit job, enjoy yourself, you can't stop it. Let it go.

Any man who tells you to give up is your enemy. He is not just your enemy, but worse than your enemy. At least you're spurred on and motivated by rivalry but the cretin who tells you it's over and to give up, well, we know what their goals are.
>>9311740
I wonder who could be behind this post....
Where should I start with him?
>>9311643
Definitely Black Swan. He has an interesting world view but I'm not sold. The bell curve and statistics in its current state is pretty much the best we can do and it's getting more accurate everyday. He says that we should disregard all this because at any moment, some large unknown could come in and wipe out our whole model. Ok that's fair but for the thirty years up until that thing happens, our model works fine and drives the world we live in. Interesting stuff but his argument isn't foolproof.
go back there
How do we fix art? Is it merely a matter of tweaking the fundamentals, or is it a matter of time? Should art fix itself?
How will literature, as an artistic medium, stand out in the future?
People will always produce good works. There's nothing wrong with art.
>>9311593
Art is the result of its times. Art itself is working fine.
Rather, you ask how do we fix the world.
The answer to that is to end capitalism and the state.
It's turned into a perverse investment/money laundering racket.
once the inevitable fall of capitalism occurs the shoddy foundations that prop up the art world will be washed away and it will be forced to reconsider what its purpose is.....from this we shall get decent contemporary art.
You're in the bathroom stall and this guy is sitting on the toilet and just before you leave and apologize he tells you take off your pants bitch what do
You visit this guy's house and he's hanging by the neck from a belt and just before you leave and apologize he tells you to take off your pants bitch what do
Tell him I am leaving as he is violating the NAP
But my pants are already off, I usually put my pants back on after im done washing my hands and I open the toilet door

Hi /lit/
I have been recently diagnosed with 'ADHD', the less hyperactive version. Basically my concentration is shit and I am only able to read a book just one or two hours a day. Although I know I can take methylfenidate to increase concentration, I'm more inclined to look at 'natty' ways to improve my concentration.
So /lit/: how did you improve you concentration specifically for reading? I'm sure I'm not the only one here with concentration problems (this is 4chan after all). Let's discuss stuff ITT to improve our concentration span, might be useful to anyone on this board.
>I am only able to read a book just one or two hours a day
This is more than 90% of /lit/
The standard is very low here
>>9310896
>Basically my concentration is shit and I am only able to read a book just one or two hours a day.
This is a normal amount of time to spend reading a book every day (for the average person).
Have you tried exercising for a few hours then reading after you've cooled down?
So someone in another thread told me this translation sucks. I've read it and I'm not sure what they may think sucks about it. Would that person or a person who perhaps shares the same opinion tell me why people may think this translation sucks?
That person also said you were exhausted because you were reading material too difficult for you, and then said he loves him some ol' comte de.
Just read it.
