I wrote some literature about my trip to new york.
>I wrote
End the sentence there.
>>9336295
>Doesn't even capitalize New York
And that's why I stopped reading 2 sentences in.
>>9336554
Everything else is well written though

>>9336065

Hey /lit/, do you consider Slaughterhouse 5 to be literature?
sure
>>9336005
I was wondering if I should ask it for a birthday present, you recommend or do you have any other suggestions?
>>9336036
Not him but I say: it's good, read it.
Is writing as a profession dead, /lit/? Are there any actually good living contemporary writers? Is it a viable career path, financially?
>>9335966
No to all questions
the writing profession lasted for a short time post-ww2. majority of writers in history were NEETs, tutors to aristocracy, civil servants, etc.
Try and tell us
I'm looking to learn the arguments for and against immigration and nationalism.
Recommend me some books thanks.
you'll find them next to the arguments for and against public transport and post-left individualism

Advanced tribalism, you retarded nigger.

Literally why I am a Stalinist
>intellectualism
Being able to read a dead language does not equate to intelligence, you pseud.
Why is killing the ego/self desirable in Stoicism, Buddhism, others I'm unaware of?
I like myself (and the world).
>>9335785
omg a kitty
>>9335785
>I like myself (and the world).
give it a couple more years
>>9335819
A better way to put it would have been: I like myself existing, and I like having the ability to experience the world.
How do followers of analytic philosophy keep on living? Are they just naturally less inclined towards suicide?
Inertia I suppose
>>9335681
They're not deep enough to see the terrible truths of life.
>>9335681
>analytic philosophy
The continental/analytic distinction has been meaningless for quite some time. But if you're referring to the contemporary pseuds who keep bragging about language/logic, they're just as bad as their "continental" peers. Philosophy is dead and those clowns are vultures feeding on her rotting flesh.
>What is it about King’s writing that appeals to so many people? Clearly, King’s readers — many of whom seem to get hooked on him when they are adolescents — don’t care that the sentences he writes or the scenes he constructs are dull. There must be something in the narrative arc, or in the nature of King’s characters, that these readers can’t resist. My sense is that King appeals to the aggrieved adolescent, or the aggrieved nerdy adolescent, or the aggrieved nerdy adult, who believes that people can be divided into bad and good (the latter would, of course, include the aggrieved adolescent or adult), a reader who would rather not consider the proposition that we are all, each of us, nice good people awash in problems and entirely capable of evil. King coddles his readers, all nice, good, ordinary, likeable people (just like the heroes of his books), though this doesn’t completely explain why these readers are so tolerant of the bloat in these novels, why they will let King go on for a couple hundred pages about some matter that has no vital connection to the subject of the book.
>My son, George, who is now twenty-four, read a little King in high school, but he hasn’t gone back to him since then. After you’ve read Roberto Bolaño and Denis Johnson and David Foster Wallace and Thomas Pynchon, as my son has, why would you return to Stephen King? King may be an adequate enough escape from life, if that’s all you require from a book of fiction, but his work (or what I’ve read of it) is a far cry from literature, which, at its best, is, sentence by sentence, a revelation about life.

Will King ever recover?
>>9335604
>dull
Comfy
>>9335618
True. Still no merit.

I read this in Harold Bloom's voice.
What did Proust mean by this?
>Proust would enter a brothel and ask the Madam if she had a hat pin and any rats. If the Madam informed him that she had both, or could obtain them, Proust would then request that the pin and vermin be sent up to his room. Once Proust was in his room and comfortable, a rat would be brought in by the Madam, in a makeshift cage, along with, preferably, a pearl-headed hair pin. Proust would then instruct the Madam to puncture the rat from its back through its belly with the hair pin. As the pin slowly went through the rat, Proust would masturbate; timing his ejaculation to occur at the exact moment the tip of the pin pierced the rat’s belly, so that its blood and his semen fell in time.
is this worse than the joyce farts?
Jewish degeneracy
something with time lapse and inescapable death of existence

What is "pure ideology"?
a hell of a drug desu
>>9335299
No, seriously what is pure ideology according to this memesopher?
When you chase after something and when it disappears you continue chasing.
>tfw incapable of abstract thought
What do I read to fix this?
Literally every word in your post denominates an abstract concept. How did you write it then?
>>9335183
>How did you write it then?
I dunno
>>9335174
Read fantasy books about fictional universes. Alice in Wonderland is a good start
The autodidact meme gets thrown around a lot on this board, so I was wondering—how many of you have actually foregone university for teaching yourself?
If you are an autodidact, how is it?
If you're a genius, the academia will only slow you down
If you're not, why not relax and study at your own pace?
University is a meme, majoring makes sense in STEM fields, everything else is a waste of time and money
under late capitalism most people have no choice but to teach themselves senpai

I think it's fair to say that black people ruined the public image and practice of poetry. We need to be honest about the influence of black mediocrity on Western culture
Happening what?
Dumb hipsters be dumb hipsters, nobody actually takes slam """poetry""" seriously.
There's nothing worse about millennials than the sassiness. They're all sassy and FIERCE. It doesn't just make me mad, it gets beneath my skin and makes me feel sick inside.
They do it all the time too. I was browsing Fetlife earlier and every single girl has a profile blurb like
>I am the cold chill down your spine at night. I am a lioness seeking her hunter.. Catch me if you dare..
I can't take it. No one should be allowed to make me cringe this much. How does it not count as assault if you're making me cringe so hard I'm in pain? You're physically inflicting harm on me. I should be allowed to defend myself by hitting you.
