I just got done reading a comment that said that there is a new school of thought which states that proper grammar should reflect how people really speak. Of course the people they are speaking of are the lowest common denominator. I had read about this before on /pol/, that there were people who complained that correcting black students ebonics on papers was racist, but I just assumed it was /pol/'s typical hyperbole. But know I'm not so sure...
So is this really going on at colleges? Has it begun to creep into grade school as well? Please tell me it's not true. I was already hurt enough when I found out they added a new definition to "literally" that literally means "not literally". And last night I find out that "mansplaining" is in the dictionary now.... And now this.
>>9414183
you're complaining about the state of grammar when you don't even know the difference between prescriptive and descriptive?
>>9414183
>hurr mommy slapped me on the wrist when i ended sentences with prepositions and now i feel superior for learning a few made up grammatical rules
fucking christ when will the prescriptive grammar meme end
You should teach yourself some basic linguistics it will make you better understand it
You can always remain a linguistic prescriptionist
Have you ever dreamed about a wonderful surreal landscape or an impossibly beautiful woman and when you tried to recreate what you saw in your dream either by drawing or writing about it, you could never capture it with the same "magic" of the dream?

Which dadaistic writers do you know? For comparison, Frank Zappa was a self-proclaimed Dadaist

It shows.
David 'The Pale King' Foster 'Hamlet Quotes Are Deep' Wallace
Catch 22 probably.
Hello /lit/.
I checked various e-book websites but found links deleted. Does anyone have Rage Against God?
Just buy it for £5, faggot.
Just buy it. Morality Man requires sustinence
>>9414258
Yeah, that whole milk isn't going to pay for itself.
Why bother reading someone who couldn't even live with himself? The only sincere moment in the life of David Foster Wallace was when he kicked away the chair. The rest of his life was a lie, the new sincerity was a joke whose punchline was the creaking of his leather belt around the rafter. His literary career was a menagerie of self help lies told to keep his depression at bay. The audience pussy and drugs were the ghosts at that feast of hypocrisy. The depression turned out to be completely warranted because behind all the gimmicks and the self awareness and the bandannas was no discernible talent

How do I get into writing poetry? Are there any good books on writing poetry?
I haven't read much poetry but I am genuinely interested
bump because i wanna learn
>>9413916
>I haven't read much poetry but I am genuinely interested
my friend, how do you not see this as your primary concern? If you cannot recite several poems from several famous poets, there isn't even a chance you can write any worthwhile poetry. Poetry is similar to math in many ways and should be studied as such...
abc of reading by pound has some general tips
Which book should I buy for his poems?
>>9413873
Oxford World Classics but it doesnt really matter cuz he wrote in English (unless you're reading him in translation which I wouldn't advise)
Try and get one with his prose too cuz it's underrated
Did you know this nigga used to read for sixteen hours straight when he was at oxford? Inspirational autism

Your Welcome
how do you cope with the fact yo will never be an important writer, life is meaningless, deep emotions are in fact impossible to even be expressed adequately (language is not enough) and you have no friends to talk to about any of these things?
i think i'd be much happier if i just accepted i'm a simple human like everyone but for some reason (probably because i spent all my youth reading as a coping mechanism for having a shitty life) i still keep fantasizing about becoming a great writer. and be recognised for it, even though i know it's terrible narcissistic (but then again, i think most writers wrote out of pure narcissism)
>>9413807
are you white?
take the redpill and realize you were born as the most advanced being of all time, you are better than other races and women, and the blood of all those that made civilization great runs through your veins as a white man.

Shrugged provides a good start for the bonfire. Gives it a good foundation so you don't have to tend to it as often. Once it starts to die down a bit you're going to want to throw in Anthem.
Now you've only picked three books here so between Anthem and the last say 30 minutes of your evening you'll have to find some other materials to keep the fire going. Really anything will do. But when you're ready to call it quits throw on Fountainhead and relax for the rest of the night.

A vicarious romp. A tour-de-farce. Transcends the good-bad dichotomy - think Gaddis. Think Wallace. Think Joyce. Think.
