I'm going to write a YA romance that isn't sappy. I want to be the next John Green.
Can someone give me an idea/plot/concept that's going to make me a bestseller that hasn't been trendy as of yet? Sick lit is done, dystopia is done.
I was thinking maybe something with religion or an abused FMC that's a kissless virgin and almost 18, so she missed out of childhood and teen love, but I'm not sure. I need a plot that has a lot of feels you know?
I'm a nonwhite female so I will use that to my advantage if I ever make it.
You already made this thread at least once.

Yeah, and? What's your point? I want a good idea!

Any fellow Lawfags got advice on how to repel thoughts of suicide? They never stop.
Is suicide always a sign of philosophical weakness?
I don't understand why so many people are reluctant to die regardless of how worthless their life becomes and how little they enjoy being alive.
I don't ask to be edgy. I just feel like life gets worse and worse, and that my own capacity to appreciate let alone enjoy being alive has diminished to the point where a major overhaul of my value system and perspective is required if I'm to wake up each day and look forward to the future.
Things have gone downhill in the past couple of years but I know one of the reasons I haven't snapped completely is that I'm still relatively young and still riding that youthful optimism train which dictates that my relatively youthful appearance and the fact I have a job means I am ideologically secure and may still have the potential to live a life that seems worthwhile to me.
But really my instincts are now encouraging me to give up and quit playing along and do what I know is ultimately right before I reach the point where all that sustains my existence is fear and loyalty to routine.
Any response please? Any books on this matter?
Sorry for the long post.

I sabotaged my life for years to drive me to self murder. I learned that God doesn't play fair.

What do you mean? What happened?
No. There is no single view of suicide. I just picked up a book called "the ethics of suicide" and only started reading today, but I think you might like it. It's a collection of widely varied (in space and time) sources dealing with different conceptions and perspectives of suicide, but the quick rundown given in the editor's intro was basically to the effect that different cultures and time periods have had wildly different ideas on the matter, as regards suicide being a private vs social issue, a strong vs weak decision, laudable vs criminal, etc. More specifically with respect to your question, it was pointed out that only since Freud/the early days of psychoanalysis has suicide been considered as resulting from a psychological "fault" or "illness," rather than any of the other social, political, cultural, private, and very possibly dispassionately-reasoned justifications for suicide.
ISBN:0195135997
>Is suicide wrong, profoundly morally wrong? Almost always wrong, but excusable in a few cases? Sometimes morally permissible? Imprudent, but not wrong? Is it sick, a matter of mental illness? Is it a private matter or a largely social one? Could it sometimes be right, or a "noble duty," or even a fundamental human right? Whether it is called "suicide" or not, what role may a person play in the end of his or her own life? This collection of primary sources--the principal texts of ethical interest from major writers in western and nonwestern cultures, from the principal religious traditions, and from oral cultures where observer reports of traditional practices are available, spanning Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Oceania, the Arctic, and North and South America--facilitates exploration of many controversial practical issues: physician-assisted suicide or aid-in-dying; suicide in social or political protest; self-sacrifice and martyrdom; suicides of honor or loyalty; religious and ritual practices that lead to death, including sati or widow-burning, hara-kiri, and sallekhana, or fasting unto death; and suicide bombings, kamikaze missions, jihad, and other tactical and military suicides. This collection has no interest in taking sides in controversies about the ethics of suicide; rather, rather, it serves to expand the character of these debates, by showing them to be multi-dimensional, a complex and vital part of human ethical thought.

it's just really good for what it is. Maybe that makes it great.
OP here, wasn't really clear in my post.
Specific strengths, themes, and styles are my primary focus.

It's good.
What I hate is people talking about how the pursuit of the "American Dream" is the major theme of the novel, when it is so obviously not.
The Great Gatsby is about nostalgia, wishing for something you used to have, feelings you used to know, a love you used to possess, and trying to get it back again, but realizing finally, in the end, things can never be the same. Gatsby will never have the young, innocent semen demon Daisy, who will love him and only him for all time. It's already too late. She's lost her glow, she's finished. He should've learned the greatest part of romance is the beginning, before there has been any jealousy, and neither party has hurt the other yet.
Has /lit/ heard of William Gass? What do you think of him?

Is it autistic to use Shakespearean English in this day and age?
>Who’s to judge if language becomes antiquated?
>What if I want to use it? Is that considered bad? Not sure if there’s some moral/social boundary I’m crossing over
>I think I will anyway but just wondering how bad this might be
dunno, but it is autistic to use the phrase 'in this day and age' in this day and age
even ironically

What do I need to read before I can read The Communist Manifesto/understand Marxism?
START
>>9545636
but the Marx-Engels reader and read everything leading up to the Communist Manifesto and then you can read that

But will I really be unable to understand it if I read the Manifesto first? Wasn't it meant to have mass appeal?
Is The Art of War considered literature? It is written in fragmented segments and then subjectively interpreted by great generals, but it is not a story per se, with a plot and theme.
Why is this book, which has been such an assistance to me and many other people, glossed over on this board? Why is there no discussion on works of literature regarding military stratagem that can be applied to all walks of life?
For example: Sun Tzu advises us that a military operation involves deception. Even though you are competent, appear to be incompetent. Though effective, appear ineffective.
I can think of numerous examples where this simple tenet has furthered my agenda and saved my skin. Is anyone else interested in literature on military strategy, or how it can be applied in daily life?
>>9545386
Yes, The Art of War is an absolute must and relatively short. Even if you are a pacifist, The Art of War is a good read. Tzu from the very beginning highlights that war should be an absolute last resort. He especially highlighted how siege warfare was the lowest form of war, costing the besiegers the most in terms of time, effort, money, and manpower- often leading to a defeat if faced by a relatively equal force.
>>9545396
Thanks, I mean I've already read it, I was wondering about the rest of you guys. If you enjoy the Western Canon do you also enjoy this book?
>>9545403
Its pretty old but unprecedented. Tzu knew how to wage a war. I'd say its worth a look.
How does /lit/ feel about this short story about hookup culture, written from the perspective of a cock carousel rider/Chad's hoe?

Its interesting to sift through the mental lines of defense she organizes to justify being one of the many, and to watch as she feebly juggles ideas about making him exclusive instead of facing reality. This entire piece reads like it was written as an excuse to everyone besides herself, when really the only intended reader was herself.
This, among other things, has convinced me more than ever that Christianity and religion in general is the only cultural force responsible for monogamy in humans. Its so natural to watch the women flock to the highest value men and harshly neglect (and justify neglecting) low value or even mid value men.
I can't believe society has fallen this far. I'm reading about a fucking "women's council" where this Chad's mistresses try to make peace with each other. These women who actually seem semi-sentient and not braindead fat white trash. Fucking fuck.
This is /lit/ for sure. Just not the good kind. It certainly says something about our society. Good post OP
