>ITT: Painfully underrrated authors
who? i'm curious
>>9539812
Marie Louise de la Ramée a.k.a. Ouida. She was quite big at the time, but fell into obscurity after her death. She's the author of A Dog of Flanders and a bunch of other novels. And they're pretty good.

How do those of you who work in low end jobs read at work without being made fun of/harassed?
>work at McDonalds (pic related)
>recently started bringing books to work with me to read on my lunch breaks
>other workers treat me with suspicion and make jokes (not all of them just a few)
>been reading 'Climate Wars' by Gwynne Dyer which is about the future of Geo-Politics in the world of climate change
>other co-workers are idiots, many deny climate change and make fun of me for it
>they always say things like 'you reading that stupid burger ban book again?' because they think climate change is a conspiracy to ban hamburgers
>have to cover the book in clingfilm because one of them keeps throwing beef patties at the book to try and destroy it
>everytime I try and point out that the book uses actual data and models and interviews with intelligent retired generals they just laugh
>tell them that climate change threatens the food supply
>they always have the same 3 responses
>'it only threatens food because liberals want to destroy cars and we won't be able to use the drive thru'
>'it won't threaten your food supply when I make you eat that book'
>'maybe it threatens the food supply of skinny anorexic weaklings like you who eat ice cubes that will melt'
>tfw they make fun of me een if I bring different books
How do I do it? The managers don't care.
What does it matter what they think? You can't expect an underclass with their own struggles and hardships to care for an abstract geopolitical issue when it calls for personal sacrifice. Just leave them alone anon and get to a position where your own thoughts matter
Read ebooks on your phone and pretend to be a normie drone on Facebook or whatever they do.
Or just don't talk to them.

You stop being such a bitchboy and tell the next gayboi that fucks on you to fuck off and if they dont you will shove your book so far up their ass that they will be shitting dictionary.
ONLY STRENGTH WILL BE RESPECTED
How does one actually learns to think? I want to dedicate my time on actually thinking but don't know how. Feel free to share anything you might think its important or advanced tips/guides etc on that matter
You find things that really make you think, and then think about them
>>9475678
When you're having an argument in your head with someone else, don't create a weak strawmen to light on fire. Imagine the greatest argument you can, and do that.
Then you're actually thinking
First try and detach yourself totally from what you are thinking about, then slowly come to recognise that that's an impossible task and you need to reintroduce your subjective experience into the process while being aware of its influence on what you are thinking.
>tfw you fell for the smartphone meme and it has obliterated your reading time
>>9548955
Sell it and get a flip phone, faggot.
>>9548968
You can't go back

i want to do this shit, but like having maps and all that. how do i get a phone that can do everything an iphone can except text and call
Is there anything helpful in this book, or did I fell for the self-help jew? After reading the first three chapters, I thought this was all just common sense with anecdotal evidence as filler. I just chapter 5, and it's literally eight pages of anecdotal evidence on why smiling is important.
It can improve your social skills, but if you're already a sociable person that isn't autistic it isn't going to change much. A lot of people I've met could use this book though.
If you're looking for a good book for yourself read Meditations.
read max stirner's the ego and its own then thus spoke zarathustra then ride the tiger
i remember this book . im saving it this time
Describe life in one paragraph. No tired, unoriginal, purply shit please.
Try to make your writing as fresh as possible.
It's shit.

>I'm sorry, he said. Shakespeare is the happy huntingground of all minds that have lost their balance.
>>9548930
source?
Catch-22.
You're going to get called names in a moment by the way.
>>9548909
why is that?
any of you know any sites that discuss literature?
Start with the Greeks
>>9548873
Let's just pick a random booktuber and discuss literature in there comment section from now on.
>>9548873
discord
I'll start.
>>9548814
Books do not induce maturity.
>>9549274
I'd honestly disagree. Reading above my level in youth certainly wrenched me out of naive fun of childhood into the cold reality of adulthood far too soon.
What should one read before tackling Stirner?
Why does everyone get so intensely bent out of shape about the meaning of Nietzsche's work, but I've never encountered two people who agree with each other on it?
Because it's a shitty meme
He founded the French school of obfuscating charlatanism.
>>9548820
that started witk kant
how the fuck is nietzsche obfuscating
the only people who misinterpret his work are 1: literal retards, 2: faggots who didn't read all his works
Nietzsche is not a philosopher in the traditional sense, he doesn't offer a system, his works don't have a full circular meaning

FUCK YOU
>>9548761
Nope. Fuck you for perpetuating this distortion of art by capitalism. Just because some fag lord pays big money for it doesn't mean it's good art.
I want to take a break from the Greeks and read Shakespeare. Will I be able to read Othello without being confused if I haven't read the canon up until then?
Theres very little of old Bill that isnt accessible on its own merits.
>>9548686
>Greeklets think they can read anything outside of Dr. Seuss without first resuming with the Romans
>>9548700
>tfw school started us on The Very Hungry Caterpillar before we'd read Homer
Should i just kill myself? How can I read the Western canon in order now?
Creative writing?
What was his problem?
