My first year of college, I was studying tech theatre (like, all the parts of theatre besides performing or directing, if that makes sense) and in one props class we had to make molds of our faces and then make masks out of them. I was pretty shocked/distressed at how small my mold was when it came out...things like the way you move your face can really distract you from someone's underlying bone structure. I was just amazed at the difference between my mold and the other guys in the class. I wasn't out, so it really wigged me out when one of the women in the class looked at my mold and said, "China doll." I thought I WAS outed, but no one actually seemed to make a further connection. Cis cluelessness at work, there.

If that's your "starting point" though, wat do? There was no way to make my mask a striking lightning god or something. I ended up basically doing some forest elf shit, so...small and faggy and pretty. Not a lot of options.

Breaking away from that as an automatic comfort zone as I transitioned has been hard.

After the charges against Schultz were dismissed, Clay County was required to return his impounded property, with one exception.

But Schultz isn’t in the clear just yet.

He faces a new charge of fourth-degree sale of a controlled substance in a school zone for allegedly selling one-half pound of marijuana near St. Joseph’s School on Oct. 1, Melton wrote.

Clay County attorney Brian Melton says a judge dismissed the case because of a state supreme court ruling and a new law that bans forfeitures before a conviction. “And so because of that statute and because of that change, we’re required by law to give back Mr. Schultz his $9,928 in drug money and give him back his blue Chevy Corvette.”

Moorhead Police Chief Dave Ebinger said “I do regret that the charges are being dropped. It was unfortunate. There were plenty of reasons to search the vehicle. The subsequent discovery of a large amount of marijuana and a large amount of cash inside the vehicle certainly indicated that this subject was in possession of a felony amount for the purpose of sale.”

In a letter to Schultz, Melton wrote "I would imagine as a drug dealer, you are enjoying these decisions immensely. I look forward to continuing to prosecute you." Three more drug charges are pending against Schultz, including a charge of selling marijuana in a school zone.

Schultz's attorney, Mark Beauchene, says there was no justification for the search of his client's vehicle. Beauchene says the search was unconstitutional.
