You should check out some of her earlier movies (Female Trouble, Pink Flamingos). Polyester and Hairspray are her tamer films and don't really fully represent her as a performer imo.

If a drag queen is in character they usually go by "she", especially in the case of Divine, as she is mainly famous for portraying a woman. You're right that she has had roles outside of drag but they were usually minor and tongue-in-cheek as it pertained to her role as Divine. (eg. Divine getting raped by her male alter ego in Female Trouble)
