I'm scared to come out and I live with my grandparents who are pretty transphobic ("We've got men who think they're girls like Bruce Jenner using the woman's restroom" there's other stuff they've said but that's the most recent thing, literally yesterday), I'm not too sure my dad would be accepting, he's said some stuff about God making you the way you were meant to be and that being trans is a phase but never anything mean, but I couldn't move in with him anyways. My mom would be my best shot at finding a supportive relative, but she and my stepdad just had a baby and they live in a bad city so i don't want to put pressure on them

In my city, there's almost no housing that isn't insanely expensive. I scored a room in a house where every room but the kitchen, bathroom and living room is rented out as some kind of bedroom; and I'm lucky to have that because anything else would be unaffordable.

I came out in high school whether my parents liked it or not, and they took it very hard for a couple of years. At one point my dad semi-seriously told my mother we should put my food dishes on the floor and make me eat like a dog if I insisted on being an "it." (She would have none of that, thankfully.) It was balls, but they came around and are fully supportive now.

The biggest risk is homelessness, of course. (I had no idea if my folks would boot me when I came out, it was reckless. I don't recommend being reckless.) But maybe you know the rest of your family would not let that happen.

That's the problem with trans representation in general. If they pass, you have to somehow work the fact that they're trans into story, which can easily be forced and unnatural and not have anything to do with anything other than the creators wanting to make sure everyone knew this person's trans. In a picture like OP where they both pass, no one would have any idea the characters were trans until the artist told them. So we're stuck with a bunch of hons and dykes.
