It could be I remember in the first resident evil having a multitude of fine art paintings,statues, multiple sound effects that just chilled you to the bone. As for silent hill one I sadly never beat it so I'm not sure about the character your referencing. I did play silent hill 2 which with its multiple endings and incredible sound track still pulls me in to play from time to time.
