I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're trying to convey, but for me it's that if we break up as boyfriends then we part ways with broken hearts.
If we break up as husbands then we go through a battle of who gets to keep what and lawyers are involved and it all becomes just such a huge headache.
I'm not foolish enough to think that just because we've been happily together for 6 years there's nothing that can ever drive us apart.
