The old, tipically right-wing argument is pedophiles must be common among gay men because most pedophiles are men who molest boys. However, I still haven't found proof said pedophiles identify as gay, as they might not have any interest in adult men. If they were only attracted to small boys, would they still be considered homosexual?

One more time for the slow kids at the back of the class: pedophiles attracted to boys can have ANY adult attraction (including, most commonly, none). They are basically independent of each other. Calling that "homosexual" or even "bisexual" is misleading.

What causes pedophilia most likely has little relation to what causes teleiophiliac sexual orientation. If anything, some men who might have otherwise turned out normal heterosexuals may have fixated on same-gender peers in part because of the neoteny (more characteristic of females in adulthood) of pre-adolescent boys.

That would certainly explain why it's basically unheard of for girl-attracted pedophiles to prefer men over women - even young adult men and little girls have far fewer similarities in features than boys and young adult women.
