No, the rules are simple for the sake of kids. If you make it statistically more difficult its just more boring and takes more time and clicking to beat, not more thought.
Pokemon or a reskin made for adults would need re-engineering. New types, things that arent obvious so its harder to understand what counters what, different attack types that make deciding which attack to choose more difficult. It needs STUFF.

also: what i would like to see in pokemon is for things to scale a little better. like in xy, which i just played, i switched out the pokemon i was training several times thru the story and all of my pogeys were still 75~85 by the time i got to the elite four and i steamrolled the fuck out of it. it was pretty boring; having pokemon that high above the trainers and battles you encounter through the game (it was like a discrepancy of 12-20 levels for every single elite four member ) shouldnt be possible unless you grind really hard in between .

Fusion is an abomination. It's not even a metroid game. You do zero exploring. The entire game is broken into sectioned of parts that can only be explored in a completely linear fashion. You get fucking briefing (mandatory ones, you can't skip or avoid them) before entering each area, which also spoils what item you are going to acquire so you don't even get to be surprised. Progressing through the areas also generally shoves you through some sort of one way passage so you can't even double back to check a different route, you get locked into whatever the correct path is. At first I thought it'd just be the begining that was like this, pandering to idiots so they can get a feel for the genre. But I've cleared like 6 areas and acquired as many suit upgrades. Even if you backtrack to a previous area with your newly unlocked shit, there's nothing worth getting. Super missiles just use normal missle ammo now, and only 1 each, so you never fucking run out, which makes missle upgrades worthless, and they're the only 'secrets' to find. Though they're generally not hidden at all, just sitting in plain sight past a locked door. Speaking of which, now the fucking doors don't open to various weapon types, but just require finding what amounts to a color coded key. So you don't even get the satisfaction of blowing up the stupid doors that were in your way for so long. Oh, but they still put them in completely retarded places, as if to pretend the game was actually open, and there was some sort of meaning in putting a level 1 door lock beyond a level 3 door lock when the keys have to be acquired in order. Oh, and they took out wall juumping. I mean, you can still wall jump, but it's never actually useful.

SC 4 wasn't even metroidvania style... it was like the classic games and I don't think it had multiple pathways. the metroidvania style is what makes castlevania games unique imho.
The multiple endings and pathways makes the games that have those features amazing.
It's why RE2 is the best Resident Evil. Shit is perf. As for metroid I could care less. I was never a big metroid fan as much as I was a castlevania fan.

i think maybe making the iv differences larger and having there be less of a difference between the levels of ivs would be good. like 1-100 instead of 1-31... you can play competitively with a pokemon that doesn't have perfect ivs without much trouble but it's so much harder to get perfect ivs...

You can't jump off the same wall twice in a row any more, and any area with two walls close enough to let you climb this way also have ledges you can just grab on to which makes it totally pointless. Bomb jumping is also out, you only get a jump from ground level bombs, which is of course pointless since you get the ability to jump as a ball right after getting bombs.

I typicaly prefer multiplayer competitive modes to single player, but with pokemon you have to raise your pokemon just to start playing competitive, and the games single player is boring after a few gyms.
The other fatal flaw in pokemon is that as the games have become newer theyve added more aesthetic mechanics, trying to make it a slice of life, making your pokemon more like familiars, like digital pets. It's like animal crossing, it makes me feel guilty if i dont play it. Thats dumb.
