I'm genuinely curious. With the push to broaden the definitions beyond the confines of chromosomes, I'm wondering what it means when someone wishes to identify as a male or a female.
I have a friend who is biologically male, but prefers feminine pronouns, even though this person wouldn't dream of going through transition surgery and losing the dick and is biologically straight.
Why, then, would this person want to be called a female? What does it mean for you to be called one or the other?

A female is capable of giving birth, a male is never capable of giving birth. It is possible for some organisms to change from male to female or female to male, humans are not one of them. Anything beyond that, like females enjoying make up, is due to society.
If someone who was born male wants to live as a "female" who cares, just respect them and let them live their life. They aren't actually female but they are what society sees a female as.

There are very complex operations and yet they can't figure out ffs. Every single FFS I have seen in person looks awful and even when it doesn't look awful, the patient still looks male and uncanny, no matter how skilled or conservative the surgeon has been. What amazes me is that surgeons can do face transplants but they can't do FFS or at least the very good surgeons who do face transplants wouldn't want tranny patients because they see us as delusional men.

ok so if theres actually all these genders out there in all these different countries like India and Thailand and whatever, but here in White People Land, the West, theres just man and woman, the social recognition of male and female, and those evil whites have been stomping all over the global terrorizing those poc civilisations with their many genders, and thats the evil of colonialism, does that actually mean that white people who are 'nonbinary' are cultural appropriation?

there are only two genders (unless you're from a weird brown people country) and that sex is on a spectrum of developmental traits, rather than a whole load of genders and only two sexes

So has any MtF or FtM had a problem with drastic changes in their sexualities or libidos? I dont mean the regular kind that comes with HRT. I mean weird shit.
I personally have started suffering (?) Rape hallucinations.
They come at random and its usually a women, although sometimes its a femboy or something and I see myself get essentially raped (struggling and everything). They usually only last from a minute to 5 or so but they happen at random. Some days It doesn't happen and other days its every few minutes for hours on end.
Its arousing in the sense that there is graphic sex acts going on in my minds eye but its mostly terrifying. The scarier ones end up with me getting killed. Its made my already limited human contact dwindle to nothing outside of work.
I also cant look at porn videos anymore. It just makes me feel like Im being held down and if I watch for too long I have a panic attack. I know this sounds ridiculous but Im being dead serious.
