I'm 25, M and gay. She's 22, and has a BF. Closest friend I've had in many years. Recently I've been getting mixed messages about whether or not she actually enjoys my presence. Help me understand her please.
When we spend time together I really enjoy being around her and I think she does with me as well. We talk about our pasts in the most intimate of detail and our hopes for the future, and this sometimes includes us being friends far into the future, which makes me very happy. I haven't had any friend as compassionate and thoughtful as her ever. The thing is, she often gives me mixed messages about how she feels about seeing me before or after spending time together. For example, recently we hung out for several hours, she thanked me for the day and I said we should do it again sometime. Her response was tepid (she's a passive person, if someone wants to do something with her, she'll do it for them). Since then our messages have been one-sided (my side) and she's turned down the offer to study together.
TL;DR: does she actually enjoy want me to be a part of her life or is she just too kind of a person to give it to me straight?

I really value her as a friend, shes a great person and talking to her about myself has been very self-revealing/therapeutic, and I hope she could say the same about me. I just dont want to lose her as a friend :'(

It is literally the exact same as normal dating, but you put in your profile/text/conversation that you're trans, you don't like to talk about it, but you don't want to make things awkward by keeping it a secret.
If you're attracted to women it's still like normal dating, except you put "lesbian" on your dating profile or get drinks with lesbians or something.
Just date who you want and be up front about your condition earlier rather than later.

You know who I feel pity for? Hons.
It is bad enough to be ugly as a male, or as a woman, but as neither/both? They are just pariahs, abominations of nature and science.
It makes me feel bad because it is not their fault that they can't pass, yet they will face a life of constant punishment for it. No one will really love them, they will get some pump-and-dump chaser action here and there at most; they will never be respected or accepted in society either, at most they will get pity from pro lgbt groups going out of their way to look diverse and supportive to others.
My heart bleeds for them, but I still could never hang out with them, not even as friends. There is this massive hon at my uni, and she looks truly horrendous. I even cringe when I run into her in the hallways and stuff. I can't imagine hanging out with her as if she was a normal person.
I am feel really bad for them, maybe hons are put on this earth to go through a path of constant suffering so maybe some of them can learn to be spiritually enlightened as a way to protect them from reality.

Think you folks can give me some courtesy advice?
Is there a best way to inquire (or simply figure out) what someone's gender identity is if it's not readily apparent? I mean this in the context of differentiating androgynous/crossdressing people from people who are actually trans.
I know it isn't necessarily any of my business, but it sure would help avoid later awkwardness since I like femguys but not women/transwomen.

Well I don't think they'd take hormones, at least not for long, since it's just temporary, and any social discomfort would be manageable because they still have the right body. I definitely wouldn't want to make permanent changes to my sex characteristics.
