Early transitioners have time to waste, late transitioners should have gotten their asses to doctors years ago. There's also the concern of whether there are any cis kids in the early transitioner group who would deeply regret transition if they went through it. Whereas a cis person who mistakenly transitions late will hardly do any damage to themselves if all they're doing is hormones. Cis people are also extremely rare among late transitioners as well.

I'm not trans, but I do know trans people. I'm assuming that this is a matter of willing yourself to do it. I know that what the trans people that I knew thought about was what they would look like if they were to grow old as their biological sex. They said that if you do not like what that might look/feel like, then you really need to transition. I'm not forcing you in to anything, but they said that that helped.
