Why are armoured cars not really a thing anymore?
>light
>cheap
>air-portable
>fast
>agile
>simple to maintain
>pack a decent punch
Is there really no role for them anymore or has the RPG made them too vulnerable?
In many ways they're still around, albeit in evolved forms as wheeled IFVs and APCs. Many MRAPs can fulfill similar roles.
Italy has the centauro tank destroyer while France utilizes amx-10rc...one can argue these are closer to wheeled tanks in some respects, but they are the closest things to armored cars today.

You answered your own question.
Plus we don't exactly have a roll for them. Any work where light armor is needed is taken up by Strikers, LAVs, and Bradleys. Plus they are too small to be battle taxis, too slow to be decent recon vehicles, and have progressed into what the Striker is today. Armored, with a big gun, and a decent sized crew.

Because the armoured car was a reconnaissance vehicle, and we have better land and air reconnaissance vehicles.
No small vehicle can carry enough armour to protect it anymore, so infantry in soft-skinned vehicles, or IFV's with advanced sensors have replaced the armoured car.
what do you even mean faggot? lots of wheeled vehicles are used.
In counter insurgencies, MRAPs fill the same role better. Maybe when we next face a military with parity (where IEDs are a lesser concern than direct fire) we will see armored cars again, but not before.

Fuck that turret is so hot

They're still around, but there's only so much you can do to them. This here is about one generation ahead of the WWII-era Greyhound.
Somebody please sell me a ferret.
The state of the art. Just for you, OP.

6 Antennae and 2 ECM... I guess that .50cal only has a primary arc out over each front door or it chops its own comms.
Great work ADF.
You can buy an old one for 6k, and have it shipped and refurbished for a total of 15k in the end.. I forget what website sells them though.
I almost bought one if they didn't need a shit-ton of gas.
Not at all, the concept is very sellable:

you tear out the shit engies that came in them, and put in a cummins or duramax with a few upgrades. that gives them a shitload more power, and MPG, and you can run an A/C system worth a fuck, and a bigger alternator.
