So this thing. I have yet to see anyone talking smack about it. Everyone seems to only have positive things to say.
What's going on here /k/ommandos?
>>
>>35182739
it's a midget matv. i'm sure that not being able to see very well over the hood due to the retarded windshield angle is going to be an issue.
>>
>>35182764
I'm sure they can be mounted with high resolution cameras/thermals to improve visibility. They may even have such cameras as standard. Those things are tiny. You could easily have several hidden behind the front grill in that photo.

Try watching some video of it before you share your uneducated opinions.
>>
>>35182739
Replacing old shit with something that will be considered good and new until all the glaring faults come to light, at which point we'll see revisions that fix those issues but aren't deployed because they already bought a shit ton. Basic military shit.
>>
>>35183130
Just like the M-ATV, right? Perhaps the HEMMT? How about the MTVR?

Trucks are not exactly the most technologically impressive thing ever, and Oshkosh has a track record of not causing trouble.
>>
>>35182991
It's a big heavy vehicle, it's not meant to be able to spend its time racing around offroad like some stripped out land rover or going rock crawling. It looks high enough to be able to lumber around off road across relatively easy terrain without grounding out on the first bump it meets and that's all it really needs to do, taking it on unplanned cross-country hijinks you'll be just as scared of getting it stuck in soft ground as you will of running aground on some berm or rock, so you wont do it ever if you can help it.
>>
>>35182991
It has adjustable suspension. In fact, the suspension can go right down to the ground to the point where head clearance is the same as the humvee, to meet the same storage and shipping constraints.

Has any other country (not counting "improvised" or whatever vehicles like you see in Syria for example) tried sticking a 30mm (or bigger) to their trucks like the JLTV?

I think Taiwan or something has 20mm's on their HMMWV's, but I'm talking >20mm.

They apparently did it to HMMWV's as well, with both 25mm's and 30mm's, though apparently it never really took off sadly.

>>
>>35183143
>HEMTT
>no glaring flaws
I got very very good at replacing the rear crane's hydraulics in the field. Because they would blow fittings literally every time we used them.

Also the pneumatic shocks under the seats (since it doesn't actually have suspension) would fail within 2 months of being replaced so you sat there bouncing like a jack in the box on anything other than perfectly flat paved roads. Helmets are 100% required and there's a reason why most of them had 5-point harnesses instead of normal seatbelts.
>>
>>35186305
Because it makes more sense to park at the base of a hill and drop off a Javelin team that climbs it to find a firing position, than to risk putting a large vehicle directly into line of sight.

>joint light tactical vehicle
>jo li ta ve
>jolly dave
>jolly for short
Has sort of a British taste to it, but it's the best we got.
>>
The only thing bad about the LATV is that it's really expensive for the job it does. It's supposed to be the light infantry transport. The cheapest thing that an infantryman can ride in that has any sort of tactical value. The reality is however, there just isn't any way for there to be a less protected vehicle with any tactical value in contemporary warfare.

The reason it's such a good performer is because its built from all the shortcomings the humvee was found to have during the Afghanistan. Anything developed with that much data and feedback is off to a flying start.

Unlike the humvee it has the right amount of protection, and it's built from the ground up to have that. Unlike early MRAPs its not a top heavy beast that easily rolls and fails to have the mobility necessary for combat vehicle.

>>35183158
>It's a big heavy vehicle, it's not meant to be able to spend its time racing around offroad like some stripped out land rover or going rock crawling.

wrong. It was designed for off-road use. Perhaps not rock-crawling, but a massive amount of research and development went into lightening it, giving it ample power, and most importantly a very effective suspension and drivetrain system for offroading. It was a key priority in design. Oshkosh claims it has "unprecedented levels of off-road performance" and "70% better off-speed than today's gold-standard TWV"(tactical wheeled vehicle, the humvee I suppose
>>
>>35187110
It's not a Humvee replacement, it's a supplement. Humvees will still be produced and used for other roles
>>
>>35182739
Why does EVERY GOD DAMN CAR HAVE TO HAVE ANGRY HEADLIGHTS? YOU'RE A MILITARY VEHICLE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO FOLLOW CONSUMERIST TRENDS.
>>
>>35187075
>Obviously you've never driven a semi or a lifted truck/jeep
i have driven latv's, matv's, lmtv's, and pretty much every variation of humvee. i grew up driving lifted f-250's hauling cotton and peanut trailers around the farm. i think you're assuming a lot. you forget that most of the people that are going to end up driving this thing are grossly inexperienced at a vehicle this size in not ideal situations. i don't care how much training you give a private, they're going to fuck up driving a large truck while wearing nods. at any rate, if i'm in a vehicle, i'm gonna want as much visibility as i can. comparing >>35186245 's picture, you can see around 4-5 feet in front of a humvee from the driver's seat compared to about 10-15 feet from the jltv's driver seat. jltv's are going to be super shitty driving on thin, winding mountain roads. i'd really hate to be that lead vic looking for ied's.
>>
>>35186305
>chinks
>implying world war three will not simply be large scale civil war along racial lines all throughout Western Europe and the USA.

>>35187275
Lol, yes they do. Since Oshkosh had to compete with several other manufacturers for the contract, of course they had to make their vehicle aesthetically appealing. Also, why is it a bad thing for a military vehicle to look aggressive? Put fear into the enemy and such.
>>
>>35187277
Exactly no matter how much visibility you have or experience for that matter you're gonna fuck up eventually so what does it matter. Second I'd much rather have more blast protection from ied's that visibility cause you're probably not gonna see them coming anyway.

My dad worked for a company that fixed their fuckups before the trucks even left Oshkosh. The company is shit to work for, and an employee I know claims to have a disease or something caused by the paint they use from when he was a painter, and that there's a shit ton of back door deals that go on. He didn't elaborate on what the deals are, but he still works for them.

Nope, it replaces the UAH, but the softskins, which already have impressive mobility, are being kept around. Logistics doesn't require all that much armor.

M230LF is a great choice, this + Javelin, or even old school&heavy weight+$ with a TOW.
Wondering if we see remote targeted muli-tube Pike launchers sometime soon. Don't really see what they can do that cannot be accomplished a bit better by existing systems except for be cheaper and lighter. But it's the .gov and Rayethon, they likely will build just to buy.

M-ATV is MRAP
L-ATV is HMMWV successor
two different trucks
>>
>>35195427
LATV is a successor to the MATV and Maxxpro and other light type-1 MRAPs. It is designed to create uniform light vehicle rather than the mismash we have now.

In case you haven't noticed, the HMMWV has already been succeeded by light MRAPs in combat theaters. You literally can't even use one without special safety waivers. Also the LATV does have a V-hull which is pretty much the defining feature of an MRAP.
>>
>>35192401
u r dumb
>>
>>35195427
Technically, the L-ATV is a successor to both. It's an MATV that actually has offroad capability. It's a HMMWV that has actual survivability against IEDs (and better protection than a UAH, with a suspension system that's designed for the weight),
