What's /k/'s opinion of an RMR on a Glock?

Is it worth it? Im thinking about purchasing a G17 and cant decide if I want to add one or not.
>>
It has it's advantages as long as you set up your sights to cowitness through them. Why the 17? With a red dot you really lose the advantages of having a longer sight radius because of the unlimited eye relief.
>>
G19 is better for red dots. As anon said sight radius is moot but also to add there is less reciprocating mass with the G19.
t. owner of G19 with a D3 on it.
>>

>>35178492
Does the RMR get in the way when cocking it?
>>
Why not just get the MOS G19 or G34? They're made specifically for an RMR.

gunshop fag reporting in, its better to just get your slide cut, you spend the same amount of money and don't have to fuck with attachment plates. better fit, etc etc.

"Cocking" - don't be gross.

No, you learn to rack the slide over the dot. In and emergency, you can rack the slide with the dot against something.
>>35179911
MOS is shit. When you see a fag with MOS you know you're dealing with a guy who is D. U. M. dumb.

so I am assuming these are custom slides designed for the red dot?
>>
>>35180012
Can I order a slide already cut? If so who has the best deal on fully assembled slides and maybe even with RMR already.
>>
>>35180278
yes you can. i don't know, im drunk right now and i forgot. my co-worker knows better but he's not here. he might say salient.
>>
>>35180231
Yes, the cut supports the dot. For example, the front of an RMR is round, so a round cut prevents it from being able to get twisted left or right. A plate can shimmy one way or another and while it may feel OK your zero may be effected. You won't know until you shoot and start grouping 6" left.
Any of the big names cutting slides makes the radius cut to fit the RMR, it's not just a straight line across the front. That's only when you have your "buddy who works in a machine shop" do it.
>>35180278
Lots of places. Lone wolf, brownells, zev, suarez, etc etc.
My slide was cut by Suarez. He's a idiot dick head so don't go through him unless you like the looks of his slides more than other people's
>>

I put a red dot on a Glock for the first time ever this year.
HATED IT.
You notice every tiny little variation in POA as you try to hold the gun steady which is impossible to hold it absolutely perfectly steady. Then what I did was kept trying to compensate which made it worse. I actually shot worse groups with it than with irons. Then there's the whole is it turned on or off thing? Is my battery going to die? etc..
>>
>>35180437
part 2

Oh and this guy >>35180211 is spot on. If I were ever to do it again, I'd have a slide milled and get a tritium/fiber optic one exactly like pictured. The Vortex viper I had was a bitch to sight in and the plate made it sit too high.
>>
>>35180406
Lel I got booted from his site. He's knowledgeable when it comes to practical applications. His website is kinda cultish and he's in the business of making money but seems to put out good products.
>>
What do you guys think about something like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhdBx4tcTpo
As a cheaper alternative to RMR/Red dots
>>
>>35181325
Not at all the same. It's like full blown AIDS had a downy baby with low-functioning autism in a sight.
>>
>>35181421
damn ashy larry, you just get back from tha haters ball?
>>
>>35181560
If you want the more reasonable explanation.
>Lacks the single focal point
>RMR's are usually a 3.25 or a 6.5 MOA dot, much more precise that any traditional iron sight.
>You focus on the target with both eyes open instead of the front sight so you get better target acquisition and situation awareness
Probably other benefits that I'm not thinking of
>>
>>35180012
I have heard this too. Something like, you use the plate that comes with the RMR, but the screws that come with the glock, or maybe the other way around. I guess there were problems with them or something. idk. I think a 17 or 19 with it would be cool. Especially a 19.
>>
>>35181325
That would be 10/10 on a defensive/tactical shotgun, but apertures generally suck hard on pistols
>>35180437
>>35180211
>>35180202
Glock should have cut the MOS natively for the RMR and made shitplates for the cheapo/older optics.
As it is now newer RDS's are going to be copying the RMR profile

>RMR
>Not a tactical race gun
I got to try one of these fugly setups recently, and it was so odd, but nice. The weight keeps it steady, and the optic doesn't reciprocate with the slide, so it's a better sight picture. If it was paired with a full-giggle backplate it'd be one of the best range toys ever.
>>
>>35181812
I was interested in one of those when I saw it, but then saw that it was about $300. I'm no poorfag, but that's more than I want to pay for a little chunk of aluminum.
>>
>>35181325
So fucking dumb.
Ghost rings on long arms only work because they are close to your eye. Oh, I know, let's hold it out at arm's length instead!
Fucking idiocy. If you put ghost rings on a pistol you should just eat a bullet.
>>
>>35178376
Don't get a 17. The 19 is actually better in every way over both the 34 and 17/L. Sight radius becomes irrelevant and the faster reciprocation of the slide on the 19 makes the sight picture better during recoil. I've roland special'ed my 19 and there's no reason to go back.

Just do some practice presentations every day with an empty gun in your house and you will improve your speed over irons in a week or two. You will be more accurate and faster at the range as well. Plus if you CC one anywhere but 12 o clock you won't even feel the difference between a slide with and without an RDS.
>>
If the consensus is that the 19 is the better option. Would, logically, a g26 be even better? It's my CCW, but I don't think I'd put a red dot on it.

If you could get a better grip - yes, but no rail :(

Hip Meme fellow /k/ommando, hey would you like to have a shooting meet up, bring your guns and dogs.

Here's a cool hip meme I made my self , see I can be pretty cool!
>>
>>35182180
You could always put a tlr-6 on it. I don't put a light and/or laser on my carry guns. I live in a city and there is always enough light to see. I sometimes carry mine with a g19 mag/sleeve during coat weather.
>>
>>35182079
Actually, there used to be a guy up here selling something like that. So I made a call, threw a hundred Syrupbux at a guy, and by next week, yeah. I should have that for my Gen 3 G17.
>>35181812
I'm gonna do that same exact setup for a sweet machine pistol build.
>>
On a side note, is a P226 RX with a Romeo1 sight already installed worth the extra ~$200?
>>
>>35182433
I don't know about actual use. But I fingered one at the store and it seemed pretty nice.
>>
>>35182018
>the 19 is actually better in every way
>G17 ammo capacity 17+1

>b-but you can use G17 mags in a 19!!
yeah so why not by a G17 and have a slightly longer barrel for improved accuracy? Especially if you arent trying to CC it, I see the G17 as the better pistol
>>
>>35183535
>slightly longer barrel for improved accuracy

That's not how it works. You only lose like 50 fps on average between the 17 and 19 depending on load, if that.
>>
>>35180012
>>35180202
>>35180211
Oh damn, good to know for future reference. Thanks m8s.
