Nothing inanimate can have a soul outside of the one you impose upon it, so the soul of a weapon is arbitrary. Where the idea that only slav shit and wood guns can have soul imposed upon them is a mystery to me.

This is good.

So what we really should be discussing is what sorts of objective facts about a weapon motivate us (rightfully or wrongfully so) to impose the perception of a soul upon it?

I claim that absolute uniqueness in the objective sense is a reasonable sort of characteristic to judge when deciding how much soul one might like to perceive a weapon as having.

Uniqueness can be historical (has it been sitting in cosmo like a million other essentially identical versions of the rifle for decades, or has it been fighting various wars), or compositional (is the particular combination of parts constituting the whole a unique combination?).

ARs have fantastic capability to be compositionally unique, and as such, "soulful". In fact ARs have essentially the best capability for this compositional uniqueness. Just look at the parts market.

To bring this full circle, deciding to put Magpul on your AR is a sure way to undercut the amount of "soul" you might "imbue" your rifle with, considering that by putting Magpul on the rifle you greatly diminish its compositional uniqueness.

>Not unique because made of mass produced parts.
You don't grasp at all what compositional uniqueness is if you think that the individual unique status of a composing parts is the determiner of the of the overall compositional uniqueness.

>Intrinsic value
You have have no idea what you're talking about. No one is making any axiological claims.

>Confusing uniqueness and soul
No you're simply not listening or are incapable of comprehending. We all agree at FA's behest that rifles and other inanimate objects cannot have soul. The only "soul" that rifles have is the "soul" that we imbue them with based upon their characteristics or qualities (objectively/experientially determined). I made the claim that of the characteristics or qualities we might measure to then make statements about the "soul" of a rifle, uniqueness or rarity might be one of them. This uniqueness or rarity can be historical, compositional, or a wide variety of other possible things. Do you follow?

>If you believe something has soul that literally means it has intrinsic value to you fuccboi
Not it doesn't you shitlord, you don't know my axiology, and further you missed the part where I agreed with FA that rifles can't actually have metaphysical soul, but can only have subjective "soul" as imbued by us, so even in the event that my axiology had statements such as "things with soul are good/valuable", you still would be wrong because I don't believe inanimate objects can have that sort of soul (thanks FA).

>Every rifle idea you can think of has been done or damn near close to it
>damn near close to it
Nice inverted No True Scotsman.
Following that line of reasoning you can keep changing your threshold of compositional uniqueness so that no AR can be compositionally unique, then argue that no AR can have "soul" based on compositional uniqueness.

If you machine your own detent pins you sure as hell have an objectively unique rifle, and so would be objectively correct to claim that your rifle is compositionally unique AND absolutely unique (since it isn't the combination of your detent pins that makes the rifle unique, but the usage of the pins themselves, by themselves since they themselves are unique).

If you're operating under my proposed framework of "soul imbuing" then you could claim that the detent pins give you reason to imbue your rifle with soul.

>Belief in what soul is
You made a claim about what I believe, and refuted the claim by clarifying what I believe? Got a problem with that? Don't make strawman arguments.

Intrinsic value simply means non instrumental. You're completely wrong about materialism being the defining factor in determining if something's value is intrinsic or instrumental. Purely metaphysical non material concepts such as democracy can clearly have instrumental value, even though they are entirely immaterial.

>Dictionary definition
No one is using definitions from dictionaries since dictionary definitions are constructed from common use, and as such are entirely subject to the collective false notions of morons like yourself.

Further you're still refusing to even attempt to begin unpacking what I mean by compositionally unique. Consider a set of 5 numbers, with each number constrained to the set of numbers {1,2,3,4,5}. We can talk about the compositional uniqueness of a particular set by considering the number of combinations unique that the set can take on (5^5=3125), and then by considering the discrete population distribution histogram of the general set. If your particular set (1,3,2,1,5) is uncommon, then it doesn't matter that every other set has a 1, 3, 2, 1, or 5. Your set is compositionally unique.
DO YOU FUCKING GET IT?

>>35175928
They could if you subscribe to a notion that the objective historical uniqueness of the rifle corresponds to "soul" of the rifle, or rationalizes your imbuing of the rifle with "soul", not to be confused with actual soul, or axiological value or good, fucking orangecat.

>>35175979

It means we should probably establish our axiology first. But that is far below oc's paygrade since he literally is a gook version of Paul Blart.

The idea of the soul is very vague, which is why I'm harping on FA's definition from like last thread that basically says that real souls can't ever belong to inanimate objects, since that seems like a reasonable working definition, not to be confused with the dictionary definition of soul.

Neither argument is invalid, but oc's are unsound since many of his propositions are either untrue, or unknown to be true or false.

Or you can understand that the word unique has a set definition and that it hasn't changed in hundreds of years

And arguing compositional uniqueness is fucking useless, by that argument to A2 pistol grips are unique from each other

>>35176145
It's only gone to semantics because WGWS keeps wanting to change the argument cause he's a philosophy major and thinks using ridiculous synonyms makes anyone look at him differently

>And arguing compositional uniqueness is fucking useless, by that argument to A2 pistol grips are unique from each other.
This is a good argument, but I think that it moves the goalposts of absolute uniqueness quite a bit, so far so as to make it so that everything that isn't identical is thereby unique. I don't claim that at all. I claim that we can describe a coherent framework defining the compositional uniqueness of a firearm, appealing to a basic principle that the atomic unit of a firearm is an individual part, as opposed to an individual polymer molecule.

>Philosophy Major
Try again.

>>35176212
Good IMO. Less contact area theoretically means faster actuation.
>>
>>35176212
They're aesthetic. I have both curved and straight, and I think the " lighter perceived pull" of the flat bow triggers is a meme.

Regardless, it's still a Geissele. The only trigger I'd consider better than a Geissele is a Jewell.
>>
>>35176231
And everyone else is talking about functional and/or aesthetic uniqueness, so which conversation do you want to be a part of?
Compositional uniqueness is great right up until the gun is still basically the same thing as the guy's next to you
>>
>>35176224
Ever since I got behind an ACOG, it just feels Sub-par in every way. Too bulky, too heavy. It actually sits pretty high in that mount, like, almost a quarter inch too high, for correct alignment if shooting ntch, which would require moving it at least one space farther forward in order to get proper eye relief. It's really not that bad for what it is, and the GDI mount is a steal at 40 bucks, but I still wish I would have socked the money away and saved for a nicer optic. It's really not bad, just not as good as I want it to be.

Let me put it this way. What is a hammer? We can describe it by it's materials, hardened steel, wood, fiberglass etc. But is that what it is? No, a hammer is a hammer when it's in the act of hammering shit. A shitty $5 hammer has more qualities of a "hammer" if it lasts long enough to be used in the way it's meant to be used. But what is an expensive ass hammer that is hung up in a shed somewhere and had never been used? It's a hammer, yes, but to it's "user " it's not much of one is it? It's less so of a hammer than the beat ass one that has driven thousands of nails successfully.

I think functional, aesthetic (subjective unless you appeal to composition), historical, and compositional uniquness are all reasonable criteria to base our imbueing of "soul" upon.
>is great right up until the gun is still basically the same thing as the guy's next to you
Please read my post again:
onsider a set of 5 numbers, with each number constrained to the set of numbers {1,2,3,4,5}.

If you have rifle (1,3,2,1,5) and the guy next to you has (1,3,2,1,1), your rifle is still compositionally unique from his, but to a lesser degree than if he had rifle (1,3,1,1,1). What matters however isn't the comparison to just one other possible rifle, but rather the comparison to the population histogram of the existing actualized combinations. The question isn't if your combination is truly one of a kind or not, but rather the degree to which your combination approaches the tails of the distribution.

Now consider that ARs can have some 200 parts or so, with several of them having a great deal of variety of choice when selecting the part (rails, barrels, upper, lower, trigger, grip, stock, sights). There are a lot of combinations, so a great deal of POSSIBLE compositional uniqueness.

>>35176296
Plato on forms would disagree, but okay.
>>
>>35176331
And I never said it wasn't, I said that it wouldn't be unique

He means, because most WWI 1911's have been shot to the point of almost being unsafe; however, some of the ones kept in service have had so many parts replaced that they are much more durable now as mix-and-match, Frankenstein 1911's. For example, the slides were not originally hardened.

Just look at the gun posted in >>35175794. I am not sure of the vintage of the slide because I don't see the rampant colt stamp and I haven't studied the font and text block styles that well, but the frame is definitely a refinished pre-A1 style frame, since it lacks the finger cutouts behind the trigger. At least the grips, trigger, barrel bushing, grip safety, mainspring housing and thumb safety are non-original or modified for the vintage of this frame. Possibly the slide too, given its age and the amount of maintenance done to the gun.

Mine was a mixmaster of a1 parts with correct matching slide and frame. Since the ignition components were destroyed and some fuckstick nickel plated it after filing off the us property stamp, I threw some new parts at it and parked it.

I've been tempted on that. I went ahead and ordered a kak brace kit with the tube assembly because while not as comfy as the SBs, it has more of that CAR stock look to me. Will see if I get tired of it or not.
>>
>>35177861
Well, if you can pony up for it, wait for Sportsman's Guide to have their double discount. Comes up frequently and with that you get the best price I've found for it. I forget what I paid but it was $90 less after the double discount and free shipping through them.

I have a KAK Blade, it was on the pistol previously. I hated it but I have prominent collar bones and fuck if that strap loop on top didn't like to dig into my collar bone...

>>

Just different packaging AFAIK. Marine buddy said their arms room had a few of the older style packages with the card, and nowdays they come in little individual sealed baggies. Can't say for certain, but I bought one of these kind for a buddy and it is identical to my two that came with the card.

Nothing wrong with mine, my pistol is built on an Anderson. I maw swap it out for something else later but only for ambi mag controls and shit.
>>
>>35178026
Should've clarified. I was talking about the bear creek one. I can't see how a company can produce a bad lower, considering someone else makes it and they just have their roll marks on it? I could be completely off but that's my understanding.

I ask for raises every 6 months.

I usually get them.

Ever 1.5 years I tell my employer that I've started looking for other opportunities, and usually get a raise or some other kind of accommodation out of that too. Better / more flexible scheduling, additional benefits, shifting work I don't like on to someone else, etc.

Within 2 years I'm a close to the top of the pay scale at any company I work at and have reduced my workload to half or less of what it was when I started. Then I milk it for 8-12 months before quitting for another job with a starting salary the same as my current. I'm on my third cycle of this now, just gave my employer a 6-month commitment for another $300/mo. Going to split Mar 1st. Feels good man.

>>35178556
>fuck references

Not at all, although I don't actually list references by names on my resume. Just the company, what I did there, some fluff about how much more profitable I made them, and years of employment. Makes them ask me for references in the interview if they care that much. At any rate, I have letters of recommendation from my last few employers.

Anyway, sales and marketing. Started in the firearms industry, currently in insurance. Before marketing I was doing manual labor in the oil business and decided I wanted a desk job. Working my way back up to the same kind of pay I used to make, but with a 40 hour schedule, air conditioned office, and steelcase chair instead of 70 hours in fire resistant safety gear.

Everyone's got lemons, but at that price, if their mount shits the bed and mangles my upper, I'd expect them not to tell me to fuck off.
