I fucking wrecked my face with the single bladed razor in basic training

They would striaght yell in your face while you're trying to shave and have like less than 3 minutes.
When we were finally able to buy our own razors at the bx, I stopped cutting myself. But holy fuck that was the worst experience in the whole thing for me. Still have a scar.

Better be able to get your body on a regulate shit schedule, you rum and excersize first thing in the morning at like 445, and then shower, shit, shave, breakfast. After that no potty breaks for a while. I kinda forget since it was over 7 years ago now.
Another bad day was when the TI's came into the shower with us and made us do circles like cattle and never really wash. That was brutal and not an every night occurrence but pretty fucked up.

Yeah, the federal offense thing is fucking bullshit. So, if you went to MEPS and signed some shit and you bail before shipping off to basic, you could technically be held liable and it would technically be a federal offense. However, no one has been prosecuted for this since Vietnam. Also, you're a retard for thinking this is the last time you'll be able to vacation with your family since we get 30 vacation days a year.

You have a problem. The military doesn't want to deal with that problem finacially/logistically. We're not sorry.
Thousands of candidates get turned down every year for things that are less challenging than being Trans. I could list hundreds of preexisting conditions that could disqualify a person that are non-elective conditions.
>>
>>34663684
I think the SR surgery is barbaric. I've looked up pictures, it doesn't seem to ever turn out well. It's an attempt to satisfy a complex these people have. The fact that the transgender community and the medical community accept this procedure as a legitimate treatment is bullshit. I think it is wrong that medical professionals are willing to perform this hack job to treat something which is a physchological problem.
I think, without the push from the community this person would have still gone through with the surgery, but the encouragement from the community certainly didn't help.

A six month supply of my hormones fits in a bag of skittles. The military already provides prescription medicine to deployed soldiers. They don't have to pay for my hormones either, I've had no problem paying for them myself for years since they cost practically nothing, I'd even have it shipped myself if they would let me. Hormones weren't an issue for me hiking the appalachian trail for six months.

how often do people lie about medical stuff at meps and get away with it? what if they need a TS clearance?
>>
>>34663749
People have been turned away for stuff as simple as medicated ADD/ADHD. The idea that gender dysphorics should be able to serve due to being lucky enough to have a progressive march towards normalization for them is a farce.

>>34663783
That makes no difference if you lose your hormones in the field and will have a breakdown given a lack of such medication. The military generally only allows prescription meds as a retention maneuver - to prevent them from having to pay however many hundred thousand dollars retraining a soldier after one is diagnosed with a controllable but DQable condition.
Baseline, you are an inferior candidate if you require crutches such as hormones or prescription meds.

>>
>>34663803
Depends. At meps you're going to be a lab rat; they can and will examine everything can be. If your condition can be found via bloodtest, physical exam, etc. you won't even get the chance to lie about it.

As someone who has a TS clearance: a literal FBI agent or affiliate comes to your high school and questions you, your family, and your friends. It can be pretty intimidating to say the least. I was sweating and my record was squeeky clean and I never smoked pot or anything like that. If you think you can lie to someone like that and your friends, family don't know about your condition... you might have a chance. But I don't envy you and it might be a shitty idea to anyway. Not sure what the repercussions of lying to the FBI could be.
>>
>>34663835
I wouldn't have a breakdown from misplacing hormones. What would I have to worry about, that if I stop taking them for 5 months some of the fat from my ass might move to my stomach?

>Baseline, you are an inferior candidate if you require crutches such as hormones or prescription meds.
Other soldiers in the field already take prescription meds. Are they inferior if they do their fucking job and do it well? It's not like I'm expecting to be in front line combat.

Such interviews are best performed with 100 percent honesty. If they ask you a question they already know the answer.

Unless it is something only you have any sort of knowledge of, just be honest. They only correlate with your employer in regard to how trustworthy and honest you are, not the answers to your questions. Those are locked away and will only ever be viewed by someone very, very senior.

>>
>>34664005
If you got a haircut and wore a pair of pants I imagine you could pass for a flamboyant gay guy. There will be plenty of fat guys with tits bigger than yours too.
>>
>>34663937

>>
>>34664061
I'm not flamboyant. Gay guys don't have breasts. I'm not fat either so they're obvious
>>
>>34664086
It isn't going to work out for you; you aren't what the military wants. You're free to apply anywhere, but don't be upset when you get turned down.
This shouldn't be a political issue, it's a pragmatic one. Let's be honest with ourselves, the only reason we are having this discussion is because of the politics revolving around Transgender people. If it were any other reason, you would just accept it.

The military isn't bigotted, you're just overly entitled.
>>
>>34664168
This
>>
>>34664086
The point is that flamboyant gay guys can still enlist even though they act or sound different than your average male. What I'm wondering is if you walk in, say you're male, show them your male birth certificate, and don't mention anything about being transgender, could they stop you from enlisting?

I don't think there are any rules against looking or sounding like a girl. You'd probably get bullied to hell and back, but if you're legally a male you could probably still enlist if you really wanted to.

There's already transsexuals in the military. There are high ranking officers who are trans. There are many soldiers who were in special forces who transitioned after, and had gender dysphoria the entire time.

Being trans by itself does not mean you are a bad fit for the military. If you are trans and depressed, suicidal, of course. If you are trans and competent, your being trans does not matter.
>>
>>34664288
Rules aren't created by the exceptions. An image of 3 people that changed their sex after the military won't change my stance.
Just because someone has ADHD or got caught smoking pot when they were 13 or has hemorrhoids at MEPs or pisses the bed when they sleep in their rack DOES NOT necessarily mean that they would be, with 100% certainty, a bad soldier.
There is a greater potential for challenges with each of those issues and if the military doesn't want to deal with those potential challenges while deployed then that's fair.

Promotion to O-3 is nearly guaranteed. As long as you steer clear of DUIs and other shit you'll make O-3. 80% of those qualified are promoted to O-4. Unless you want to make a career out of the military, lessened advancement rates shouldn't matter because you need to spend so much time in to reach those selective ranks. After 10 years in as an officer, enlisted past isn't likely to matter, your work as an officer should speak volumes more.
So yeah, they're probably just saying shit to say shit.

God forbid somebody have the balls to address the elephant in the room. So my SO's always dreamed of joining the Navy, since she was young, wanting to be a pilot. She's currently working towards becoming an officer after she's finished studying aeronautics. Problem being, when she was born, the doctor exerted too much force in receiving her and it caused nerve damage in her right arm and one to be longer than the other. It's not entirely crippling, but she's unable to lift her arm up past shoulder-length. Of course, her other motor functions are still intact and she can still engage in physical activity regardless of her condition. Is it at all possible for her to still join and fulfill her dream--be it through reconstructive surgery or what-have-you? Or will MEPS make her dream impossible?

Unless there's some sort of surgery that can completely correct that, there's no way in hell she's going to get declared fit for duty. Anything that limits her range of motion is bad news.

Why didn't she do ROTC?
What year is she in? If she's a sophomore, have her join ROTC and get a DoDMERB physical ASAP so she can get a basic medical qualification (find out if it's waiverable with medical intervention, etc.) and have a better chance of getting a pilot slot. - was she thinking NROTC, AFROTC, or what?
At my DoDMERB physical they checked arm range of motion so I assume it will be an issue.
You could have her call or email DoDMERB and just ask - I've heard they are friendly people. I've heard Larry Mullen over there is very helpful, you can find his email on the service academy forums - just google MullenLE and find his most recent post on the forum and it'll have his email. I'll assume that they'll want her to have a medical exam first, but there's no harm in asking - just be completely honest with them on the situation.

From what I've heard, they are more interested in if you lie about that kind of stuff than if you actually did it. Someone else should confirm though.

i wonder if they give even sport pilot licenses to guys who can't lift their arm above the shoulder

>>

History of Chostochondritis for a year or maybe two. Inflammation of cartilage in the ribs, debilitating pain but a temporary condition a lot of people get early or late in life. Was given anti-inflammatories for it, not much else to be done.

Unsure if that is a factor to consider with this stuff if it somehow comes up, given it was years ago.
In relation, I've had some chronic joint pains earlier in life, but they've rarely ever bothered me and receded in time with more physical exercise and better chair posture.

Here's my situation. My shit with the Navy got cleared up, and the Army office is sending me to MEPS next Wednesday. The problem is there are no 11x op40 contracts available right now, only standard 11x and 92w op40. My recruiter is saying that guys in their senior year of high school have a lot more options, as they can reserve jobs way in advance. So older guys like me only get the dregs of what they want. When I asked if their was a time when they got a lot of new contracts in, he said no. This contradicts info I was told that said contracts for the next fiscal year are uploaded in October of the prior year.
My question is, is my recruiter lying about October? Do I really have to wait and hope a 11x op40 contract floats down? Or can I not even wait and just have to take the 11x contract? If I have to take the standard contract, what are my chances of an airborne recruiter talking to my class at OSUT? And the chances of a Ranger recruiter talking to my class at Airborne school? Can any former 11b/c's chime in and tell me if a ranger recruiter talked to them? If so, was that a common thing?

What's up with the whole 11b vs 19d rivialry? Is it just shitposting or do cav scouts and infantry actually dislike eachother?
>>
>>34691085
CavScouts cant admit to the reality that they're trained in Cold War era strategy and that they are literally, fucking literally EVER tasked to do their job.

They have a company full of infantryman in EVERY Cavalry squadron in the whole entire US Army to do the job they thought they were signing up for. I'm dead serious, every Cav Sqd has a company (aka troop) doing their job. Its hilarious.

No CavScout ever in history has done anything cool. If you wanna do cool shit, you have to suffer as an 11B.

How long does it take to go from a 17 minute run to 13?

I'm 5'9" 150lbs, can I improve my time that drastically during 11b OSUT since I don't need to lose any weight first?
>>
>>34694016
>How long does it take to go from a 17 minute run to 13?
It depends on the distance, your current workout load, and your age. You're height and weight should give you an advantage.
>>
>>34694033
I'm 24 and I meant the 2 mile for the APFT. I'm running every other day and my endurance seems to be increasing, but not my speed. I'm starting to work in interval sprints now that I can run more than 4 miles. I know there isnt much else to it other than running more, I'm just looking for a time estimate. If anyone could share their run times before and after infantry OSUT or the marine equivalent I would appreciate it.

>>34690514
>>
>>34694103
If you want to get more speed, the best way is to do 100 meter sprints twice a week. Start off with two per session, and then you can add one every week or so. I wouldn't go over 4 though, since you problem haven't done high intensity workouts much in the past.

Make damn sure you're giving yourself good warm-ups and cool downs when you are doing these springs. You don't want to get any muscle injuries. Also get some proper running shoes. This is such an overlooked aspect to preventing injuries. Go to your local running shoe store, and they'll help find you the best shoe that'll cater to your step.

Going from 17 to 13 minutes for two miles shouldn't be too hard for you, assuming you have a few weeks. You probably haven't had very good quality runs before now, so that had an impact on your times.

The issue is that this appointment is referenced in relation to an old injury paper I brought up and MEPS wanted to see. In page 3 of 3 it says "Made appointment to BHC" (behavioral health counselor)
I checked, and that very first appointment they tagged me with that low-grade depression.

Is MEPS likely to keep pulling strings and ask for the papers detailing that referenced appointment?

I'm going into the RAF.

So I've taken my asvab and waiting on some interview with a Commander about a juvenile arrest record. I was 12 and started a small fire and was trespassing. The recruiter says he doesn't think it'll be an issue, butI'm just paranoid.

>>
I can't speak for the record, but meeting with a commander, I can sorta. The one here wanted to talk with me because he thought I was an interesting case, way older than other applicants. Wanted to see what drew an oldboi's interest.
Best I can say is get good rest, wear nice clothes, make your hair look good, treat it as a job interview and try not to sperg out or look weird in your body language.
>>
>>34695327
My friend has flat feet and he managed to join the coast guard. Not sure about other branches though i've heard it may be a deal breaker, might depend on the MOS however.

As for the allergy, you say you don't need treatment or anything for it so I assume it's not a major issue? If so I would think you could get by with it but you shouldn't take my word on it. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you because of that allergy, whether it be the reaction that hurts you or having them find out if you lie and get punished later on.

Finally managed to pass the 2 mile a few times. Now I have to get up to minimum on sit-ups and push-ups. Problem is that I haven't exercised since freshman year of high school, besides the running I've been doing the past few months. Any tips for going from absolute twiggy arms to somewhat fit? I'm planning on heading to the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays to use the weight machines and trying to do as many sit-ups/push-ups as I can on those nights, but I don't know what else I could do.
>>
>>34699432

Well that depends. Why Tuesdays and Thursdays only, and what is your diet like? Because you're asking an arms and core question in /k/ when you might ought to be asking in /fit/ mon freir.
>>
>>34699495
I run on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I figured doubling up wouldn't be good. I could add in Sunday to the routine of it two days isn't enough.

Diet-wise, it's not exactly trash but it isn't completely healthy. Burgers and fries cooked at home, different varieties of "Helper"-type meals, and other typical stuff. I don't really have a particular diet I stick to, mostly because I'm hovering at 5'11" and 154lbs. It just didn't seem necessary until now.

And yeah, I probably should've posted on /fit/. I just figured you guys might be a bit easier to talk to since you know what I'm shooting for.

>>
>>34699576

>Running three days

You can run every day and take a day, maybe two, of rest.

>burgers and fries
>"Helper"-type meals
>typical stuff

Not good man. Try having a protein/veggie/fruit shake for one meal a day that isn't breakfast, so for lunch or dinner.

>back to weight lifting

Lift only every other day. That's 3-4 days per week, understand.
>>
>>34699692
Alright. That's all doable. I guess I was being a bit too cautious with the runs since I wast starting from nowhere with them too.
>>
>>34699729

I used to run cross country. It's going to suck until you can run what you'll be running. Then you up what you're running. Then that sucks until it doesn't suck.

>2 mile

Yep, Army. Planning on doing ROTC in Fall 2018, so I'm building myself up now. I'm kind of in a bind because I never worked out when I was younger and I don't have a whole lot of time to get in shape. 18x, SEAL, Marine Recon for sneaky roles that actually do something today. All hard to achieve

what are the pros and cons of the muhrines
>>
>>34704999

Pro: Highest physical standards, since combat jobs are competitive rather than just where they stick the people too dumb to do anything else your boots are better than the Army, it's highly prestigious.
Cons: MWR is the worst of any service and your barracks living conditions are sub-standard. Non-combat jobs seem to be looked down on.
>>
>>34704999
Pros:
you can tell army that they aren't marines.
You can tell navy they aren't marines
You can tell air force that they aren't marines
You can tell coast guard that they aren't marines

Cons:
Literally everything is worse than the other branches.
and you MUHREEN reputation doesn't mean anything to people outside the military because to them a soldier is just a soldier. And the other branches don't give a shit either so you spent 4 years gloating about being a meathead while drinking shitty beer just to get some tattoos and a Nissan 350z

>>
>>34705047
It's very much real, particularly with the boots. I know several Marines who unironically think they are on par with Rangers.
>>
>>34705061

It's weird. Marines have higher physical standards than the other branches, and just to ship out to boot camp requires you to basically already meet AF standards, but then it gets wonky with everything SOF because the AF leapfrogs most of the Army and the Navy with their training difficulty but Marine SOF is at or near the top in terms of physical difficulty.

CCTs do JTAC duties in addition to covert/austere airfield duties, but they typically work in the field for long periods of time. JTACs do JTAC duties exclusively, SOF JTACs work with Rangers/SEALs while non-SOF JTACs work with conventional units. An easy breakdown is this:

CCT: JTAC for high speed units plus (a lot) other duties
SOF JTAC: JTAC for high speed low drag units
JTAC: JTAC for conventional forces

CCTs are in the highest demand last I dug around for info on the topic.
