I feel like there hasn't been a shooting in the presence of an open carrier so no one knows I guess. You can say there wasn't a shooting because of open carriers or there simply just hasn't been one cause random shootings aren't as common as the news likes to say. I feel like depending on the shooters motives, they either won't do anything at all seeing armed people or will target them first so they can get more time to stack bodies. Who knows honestly. I only carry my rifles when camping, other than that I just keep a handgun cause I figure it's enough for self defense and doesn't bring me any unwanted attention.

The idea that you can defend yourself from within a truck cabin is laughable. I've seen police videos where a trucker shoots from his cabin and gets perforated by cop bullets. The bullets go straight through the sides and rear of the cabin. It provides concealment, not cover.

Open carrying a hunting rifle is super common in my rural area because fudds hunt 24/7 in the relevant season. You see dudes with Durr rifles all the time in stores, deli's, resturants, etc. Nobody cares. There is nothing wrong with this.

Someone carrying a pistol openly is doing so for self defense. He has chosen quick access over concealment and there's nothing wrong with that.
