If you want to go that far perhaps low end ARs instead. I'm not too sure about their SU series but from what I hear they have a lot of reliability issues because of how they make a lot of their weapons too complicated (cheapo pistols aside of course). Still, as far as on board the ship goes I can't see that as too bad an idea. Plus a folding stock helps in CQB but it's easy to just put the stock under or over the shoulder too.

Looking at your docs here, I agree with the 5.56 carbines as primary service rifle, but you should restrict sidearms in use on your ship to 9mm or lighter. Smaller holes are easier to fix, in metal or flesh. For your 'marines' you should consider employing a battle rifle, especially if you're doing boarding operations. Penetration is bad on your ship, good on theirs. Having at least someone with a pump shotgun is vital. Breaching, flares, buckshot, slugs, it's just fantastic. The fact that 7.62x39 is even being considered over 5.56x45 is disturbing to say the least.

You should head over to /fit/ and try to recruit from them. You know the old adage, why hire welders and teach them to go into space when you can just train the spacemen to weld?

I talked to a /k/NAVY recruiter and I have been talking to him about Nuclear Engineering.
He brought up some good points that I am interested in, in a way that doesn't seem like bs. I know bc my dad is a recruiter, so I have some knowledge. The benefits did not seem like false promises. I am just feeling jittery and worrying about possible bs. Does anyone think that this is a good idea? I sure as hell do but could talk to someone about otherwise.

Alright first of all for a lot of countries if you have guns on board a ship when you are coming to port you have to dump all weapons overboard. Now for big security firms that is not much of an issue, but it might be for us. So what I would recommend is also get some type of basically deployable boat that can hold the guns and other

Well from what I've dug up so far there's a number of ways. The more obvious one is just close the bulkheads but that's a good way to lose an entire previously useful room to flooding and that's just piss poor damage control.

Another method is to use a number of wooden wedges which should expand inside the hole due to soaking up the water. This is for smaller holes.

Third is to use something like a large water proof mattress and use a few large wooden poles or something to ram it into place which should in theory be able to withstand a fuckhuge PSI. At least that's what I've come up with so far. There's also just welding a giant piece of metal to the hull but that's expensive and a more permanent repair that should be done in port or while not in combat.

Going down at sea is no bueno and a shitty death.

How hard would it be to make a short range small ASM? Something the size of a baseball bat.
Just use some basic rocket motors, a tube, some control surfaces, and a nice warhead.

It could be wire guided or remotely guided for simplicity. But that limits us to short ranges and possibly jamming. Not to mention defenses.
