Guise. Help me out.
Getting my first pistol down under. It's gonna be. 22 (Calibre restrictions, biggest I can get for now) it's mainly for target shooting.
Was looking at Walther. The PPQ M2 in particular. Thoughts?
Was offered a PPQ 22 Target from my local dealer for $900, with two mags. Picture very much related. Looks good, but not exactly what I'm after.

What other options do you have?
In my experience the Walther .22 handguns run alright for rimfire, but they're difficult to maintain.
If you can, get a Ruger Mark series. Doesn't particularly matter which model, though some are nicer than others. They're the golden standard for .22 semiauto pistols.

.22 Rimfiire is my only limitation.
I've used the Ruger Marks before. I do not like them at all.

Wait what the fuck?
How come you can't get anything above .22 as your first handgun?
Mine was a 9mm, or do you live in Victoria or an even worse shithole?

900 aus I'm assuming? Jesus they really fucking gouge you guys don't they? I mean after conversion they're jacking up the price by like 400 USD.

I got that exact walther without the barrel extension. The P22 seemed very picky with ammo. I kept having issues with feeding rounds at lower grains.
Do you really want a gun like the P22?

Better options:
Ruger mark series
SR22
Browning Buckmark
M&P-22
Old Colt Woodsman.

This. Everything on there is worth a shot.
Woodsman and Buckmark pistols are awesome, if you can find one over there.
I've owned a standard p22 for several years and really like it. I have removed the magazine disconnect and that is the only non stock thing about it. It feeds and fires all high velocity ammunition I have tried. Used some standard velocity (40gr 1050fps) the other day and it would not cycle properly, but all Hugh velocity ammunition seems to work just fine.
I have fired my friends ruger 22/45 and also really like that. Fired a browning buckmark and it seemed very picky about ammunition. The sig mosquito looks pretty cool but I have never fired one.
Get a ruger charger and stick in a Nordic stock kit for a tacticool 10/22

Came here to suggest this.
You can also get 16-18 inch PWS barrels for them...

God damn, $900 for a P22Q? I paid Less than 300 for the one I bought for my GFs first pistol. Then again I'm murikan and PSA has amazing deals sometimes.

e.g. this is all Aus legal asides from the stock (mag is cosmetic)

sxcy

walther 22 = made of pot metal
do an internet search for that model before buying lots of complaints

The gun in that pic is a P22, not a PPQ in .22. Seems like you know that, this statement is more for the people ITT who aren't paying attention.
PPQ's a good option, but Ruger's SR22 might be a bit more reasonably priced in kangarooland.
Thanks for all the info guys. Will go off and do some more research into the topic. :)
The calibre restriction comes from the club I'm apart of. I technically can get a 9mm centrefire pistol to start with, but the club is full of old farts who won't sign off on a permit to acquire for it. Dicks.
fuck u
Since you live on a prison colony island, can you tell us what imported .22s (since you don't manufacture any guns yourselves) are available in your specific locale, or are available for transfer/import?

whats the cute rifle in the middle there?
