Had my Springfield for about two years now. No problems so far. Maybe put a little over a thousand rounds through it.

None beyond the usual problems of bending over too far with a pistol on your hip and wearing short shirts.

As a single stack it's a very thin pistol so you just have to worry about the length of the grip which is about the same for most any pistol.

My 1994 Enhanced, 2008 Government, and 2015 Gold Cup Colts have all been reliable since day 1.
My 2005 Springfield Mil-Spec broke its extractor after about 5,000 rounds and my 2008 Springfield Operator broke its extractor after 3,500
My 2011 Tisas Regent R100 was very picky about magazines but was always flawless with mags it liked
My 2008 Kimber ran reliably after about 350 rounds but the slide stop pin, hammer spur, front sight, mainspring housing, and top left grip screw bushing all broke and had to be replaced at one point or another
My 2015 Ruger had a poorly tuned extractor out of the box which I fixed and the ejection port was slightly too small to reliably eject unfired rounds
My 2007 Les Baer worked fine after about 300 rounds and is picky with magazines

I currently only own the Colts, the Baer, and the Ruger and I only still own the Ruger because I didn't want to put a .460 Rowland conversion in my Colt Government.

I have a ruger fullsize 1911, I have about 3500 rounds through it. I would never trust my life to this gun. When it was new it never failed but after around 2500 rounds I consistently got failures to feed. It needs to be spotlessly clean to feed even kind of reliably. I even got a new spring and made sure my mags were as clean as I could get them. If I shoot 300 rounds on a trip I get usually less than a mags worth of fails, and that's when it and the wilson mags I have are both brand new levels of clean.

Any magazine preference for your colts?

Roomate has been carrying a Taurus 1911 since 2010 and hasn't had any issues, probably 300-800 round a month at the range on it.


I just got a Ruger 1911 Tuesday, and I've put about 800 through it. It didn't fail once when I was shooting about 300 Speed Lawman rounds, but it failed at least once every other magazine when I was shooting shit cheap Winchester white box turds.

Super easy to clean though compared to other guns I've had.

Had it fir almost 2 years now, about 6k rounds through and everything is still hitting where i aim.

The only reason i carry this particular 1911, is because its as buttery smooth as my sig, and it fits my hand correctly when shooting one handed.

All i did was replace the small parts with wilson bulletproof shit after 5k rounds, and added a shorter trigger. My sights were actually put on and pinned nicely compared to my sa gi and friends ria so i wont change them out. Grip safety is short and almost non existant, i did switch out the long wide spur hammer fir a short one since i HATE all ww2 and modern hammers that are too thin and sharp to thumb it down(i thumb down then rack slide). I also switched the smooth Flat msh for a flat checkered one because it slid to much in my hands after my hands get sweaty from 100+ rounds

Not really. They'll run anything if you have the right mag type/ammo combination, but if you can't be bothered to worry about the details of that oft-overlooked aspect of 1911 reliability, then any mags with medium-length, semi-tapered feed lips and dimpled, skirted followers will run pretty much anything except the most exotic loads.

Metalforms (Colt-branded or otherwise) have always worked well for me in that regard.

Yes they are good entry guns. Also look at taylors 1911, they are sourced from same RIA 1911s and same rollmark placements. I had my friend buy it as his first handgun over a RIA since the taylors was 30$ cheaper. Shoots fist size groups at 7 yards in low light indoor range.

With 230gr hardball and tapered gi-lip mags, it would only feed 2-3 rounds at a time without failure to feed. After 40 rounds it had a malfunction that required benchwork to fix, and i haven't shot it since. I don't blame the 1911 design

I really have no idea how many rounds ate through it at this point, but I do know that you can put about 500 dirty, cheap bullets through it before it'll get a failure to feed/double feed, and I haven't reached the limit in a single range session where cleaner ammo (and I'm talking winchester, nothing fancy) dirties the gun to the point of feeding failures

Had my Para-Ordinance GI expert for a little over a year and a half. About 3k rounds through it. Haven't had any malfunctions at all regardless of magazine. Haven't been able to try 10 rounders yet, because most of my money goes towards school. I've been exclusively shooting steel-cased Tulashit for the past 10 months, and the only issue is stove piping when firing with the magazine out, single round in chamber. Like I said, most of my cash goes to school, so I've yet to use it in other than a range setting. I'd like to try it in a tacticool class or something and see if James Yeager really is a faggot for bashing 1911s.

I have a pre-series 70 Colt Gov't Model. Recently, the hammer's been dropping to half-cock when I try to fire it and I've been too lazy to get it looked at.
Purty gun, though, aside from the idiot mark my uncle left when he tried re-assembling it.

I carry a SIG P238. About as close to a 1911 as I get. My lone 1911 is a SIG and so far the only issue I have had is with a bad box of Winchester white box.

1911 noob here, should I be worried about hollowpoints feeding in a 1911? I'm going to try some out of course, but for instance Federal HSTs have pretty large hollow tips, should they be avoided for 1911 use? Maybe stick to something with a polymer tip like Hornadys?

I got a springfield loaded operator. I shoot, it works. we put 250 rounds through it before the first time we lubed it, didn't have malfunction them, haven't had a malfunction since.

I'm graduating law school in May. I'm thinking about buying myself a decent 1911 as a Nice Thing, since I've put off pretty much all gun-related stuff except buying ammo and mags.

I'd prefer a production gun if possible. I really don't care to wait for a custom shop.

Features I want:
- Good sights, preferably serrated, with tritium at least in the front
- Frontstrap checkering/other texturing
- Reputable company

Nice to haves:
- No rail
- Magwell
- Good grips w/ aggressive texture

Budget is probably going to be in the $1500-1700 range. What should I buy? I know next to nothing about 1911 manufacturers.

My Valor is a range and only sometimes carry gun, so I am less concerned with widgets. While I prefer a tighter fitted 1911, for a nightstand gun I would go for something with a light rail, everything else is personal preference.

Overall I love mine, I was scared it would scratch the gun but so far no scratches to speak of. The only negative is you need to use their own slide stop which I don't like compared to the original DW stop.

The DW is certainly well fitted, I was trying to say if a light rail was required for a nightstand gun that you would need to move to a different brand in the $1k price arena since DW won't meet those needs at that price (I like the Springfields at that price for the more tactical features).

Pic related is my Colt. I was putting it back together once and I broke the lever that pushes on the plunger in the slide that allows the firing pin to be sent forward. So I just deleted that shit, got rid of the Series 80 stuff and shimmed the space up.

Lately, the flat wire recoil spring I put in it seems to need more power, so I'll probably just switch back to the old one that was meant for the gun. The slide seems very sluggish right now, that will probably fix it right up.

No FTEs/FTF or any other problems other than that shit. I did shit a brick when I went to the range after the lever to the firing pin had broke and I didn't know it, because this thing was my bedside gun for two months while I didn't know it was broken.

Despite Brolin having a really shit rep for non-heat-treated slides and spotty QC, this is the second most accurate pistol I've ever fired. Will eat 230gr ball and 200gr Hornady LSWC's all day long but -will not- feed a 185gr bullet of any shape. Which sucks, because I shoot a lot of Berry's 185gr plated SWC's. Normally use WC mags with it, but have tried everything from Chip McCormick Shooting Stars and Powermags to Nighthawk and milsurp. Currently have over 10,000 rounds through it.

Once I got the ejector and extractor tuned (which took less than 50rds, and happened before I even had a finish put on the gun), it has been 100% reliable with everything I can feed it. Will even cycle full wadcutters designed for .45LC. Currently using new Nighthawk mags for it, because they were cheaper than my normal WC's. Currently have about 820rds through it.

Last three new Colts on my bench were there because they had problems out of the box. One had a sear missing a quarter of its engagement area right on the corner. Pitiful.

I was surprised by the quality of their $2000 FDE tactical bullshit gun the CQBP. What's even more shady is there is two versions, one for $2400 called the CQBP Custom shop which are very nice but no where near $2400 and their $2000 normal CQBP. There is no difference but the normal CQBP is just a FDE rail gun with poorly fitted slides and laden with MIM parts.

I've got a Remington R1 that I use for training and I carry a WC.

I've got more rounds and abuse on the R1. Between the two of them I've got roughly 7k rounds through them this year. The only failures I've had in either were ammo related.

Hardball only in the R1, between 200-230 great

JHP only in the WC, half and half between handloads and critical duties.

I've got no problems with either, but I feel like I might get into a G19 soon.
