Hey I like Kantai Collection. I've gleaned some really obscure-ass trivia referenced from literature not available in English.

It's obvious they are trying to mimic Jane's Fighting Ships so they should at least get the year right. Unless that is actually the 2013 Jane's Fighting Ships, but I doubt that.
>>
>>22771677
For example the Brits remarked upon Heavy Cruiser Ashigara when she was present at King George VI's coronation, calling her a "hungry wolf" in reference to IJN doctrine of sacrificing habitability to maximize combat effectiveness. The Japanese took it as a compliment as she was a ship built for war but it was actually an insult because the Brits prized the habitability standards of their ships.
>>
>>22771679
Well, if you state the fitting "mission" AFTER the loss, you can call every war a "win". So, maybe the mission of japs was to surrender to USA and hoarde money or something, so, by your logic, they won?

You know, if they'd been able to pull their weight in any significant manner on their own, then America never would have needed to intervene in the first place.

how spartan do you have to be that even the Royal Navy complain that your ship's living standard is too barren?
>>

IJN Vessels usually lacked mess halls, a guy came by your bunk and delivered the food. Also bunks were like 1/3 the size of western counterparts.

Japan surrendered, because soviets were close to storming the capital, not because of 2 bombs with harmfull effects still unknown. Known (not by kids) fact.
>implying the soviets could have defeated the Nazis without millions of tons of American weapons, trucks, goods
They could. Would take much more lives of soviet people, thou, so lendlease is a valuable help, ok. The ONLY way, Germany could have won, if England and USA actually actively fight on the side of nazi.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Touhou just moved away from Comiket to Reitaisai.

Last Reitaisai had 4x more doujins than Kancolle did at last Comiket.
>>
>>22772895
Did it? Why did it shift that much this year Reitaisai has bben running for a bit no?
>>
>>22772688
Don't those structures make them a little top-heavy? Or is their top-heaviness mainly attributed to the weight of the guns mounted?

This thread reminds me, I have a book called "Picturesque Cuba and Our Navy." It's from the 1890s right after the Maine blew up but before the Spanish-American War. Great big book full of hi-res photos of Cuba and all the ships of the US Navy's Great White Fleet.

Some pretty cool stuff in there, like a dynamite cruiser and an ironclad ram.

A prop was also preserved along with the ship's helm.
As for Hibiki, apparently she became a wreck dive site, or so it seems from what I've read from a World of Warships forum. Kinda vague details but I'd like to know more of the fate of Hibiki after her service with the Soviets.
>>
>>22771397
yeah totally cause the soviet union throwing 2 million soldiers in manchuria didn't happen , amirite

I really wish she didn't run aground. I would love to have visited her as a museum ship.

Speaking of which, I found Hibiki's wreck site. It's from some Russian dive site, according from the site where I got the picture from. It's on an island called Karamzin, near Vladisvostok. Hibiki was used as gunnery target-practice when her service with the Soviets expired. It appears there are also ships in the same area too where they too were used as targets.

Can you post a link to the site?
>>
>>22782864
It's just from some forum where the guy posted the pictures from a Russian dive site. He didn't give the actual link of that Russian site though.
Anyway here's the forum: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1999465&mpage=1&key=&#1999465
He also posted a couple more of pictures but that's it.

A shame she was used as a target. At least she hasn't been dredged up for scrap by the Chinese like some of the other ships.
>>
>>22782864
>>22783050
Anyway, I found a site from a group of divers who apparently dived in the area where Hibiki is. Apparently, there is some sort of restriction/special permission needed to go to the area, or so google translate says. Anyway I'll try to dig up more Russian dive sites of her.

Funny thing about those scrap fishers is that they should know there's a problem with what they're doing if other Chinese people get angry about it.
>>
How come ships have so many little details?
Wouldn't they resist damage and be easier to maintain if they were simple curves like armour?
>>
>>22778592

Are they ever going to let westerners play or are they still too cheap to get a real server for the game?
>>
bahaha we sunk all these jap pieces of shit

No, baka gaijin are not allowed. Just read the wiki if you really want to play.

A bunch more were not sunk as well but I'm too lazy to name them.
>>
>>22783509
not really, the distances and calibers of weapons used against them, combined with range and accuracy of contemporary weapons and issues around seaworthiness, stability and weather considerations mean that the way they are built is the way they are built. Something the size of a battleship with tons and tons of armor on top of the ship would make it too slow to be effective, it would be a fortress on the sea that couldn't move, would be unseaworthy and be a naked target to aircraft.
>>
>>22783800
it's good but it's not nearly as militaristic as you think, it's mostly RNG based, and tactics are few and far between.
Fun as fuck though and for what it is quite amazing, but probably not what you are thinking it is.
>>
>>22783912
the I-401 was sunk after the war wasn't it?
>>

Yes, but not during it. I'm too lazy and tired to argue anything further about this though.

Now that sentence after posting it, it sounds stupid. I'm just gonna go to bed now before I make myself look even worse.

It was captured by the USN right after the war ended. It was sunk "as a target" to prevent the Soviets from getting a look at it. The I-400 series of subs really is amazing and a true technological feat. For all the short sightedness that defined the IJN, the concept and design of the I-400s revolutionized submarine warfare.
>>
>>22784984
whoah fascinating stuff.

A sub that carried a couple of ASW float helis would be breddy neat.
>>
>>22770645
why fucking bother? the only color is gray.

The whole I-400 class off Hawaii I think.
>>

>>22782620
I say we rebuild her. Honestly the state some planes were in before they were "restored" was much worse, like totally crushed under ice. Tanks get rebuilt from range targets or off the bottom of the sea.

Reconstructing a whole ship from a propeller and some other stuff would be crazy expensive, but the Japanese seem to be trending more militaristic these days, and its not like anything else has survived to represent the WW2 IJN.
>>
I wish we kept Nagato as a museum ship instead of nuking her. If only they could've seen 70 years into the future and known that Japan made an incredibly popular browser game about her. Think about all the otaku tourism moneys.
>>
>>22785239
And there comes China with "muh Nanjing" or other shit like that.
>>
>>22785316
Nagato is still intact at the bottom of the ocean. the nuke merely irradiate her and was abandon as a result.

unlike Yamato that's in literal pieces
>>
>>22785982
It doesn't take a Chinaman to see that the Japs are bolstering their armed forces. It just takes one to think that its a bad thing. Also, when the scrapping of IJN wreaks came up in the news a bunch of Chinese people also condemned the practice. A lot of where that sentiment comes from is due to the fact that China and Korea are the countries that suffer from Japan's loss of history.
>>
>>22785316
I think there was a time the Americans reconsidered putting Nagato in USN service with American tech and I think it's her damage that she sustained that prevented her from being put into service as it was deemed too expensive to repair then rearm her with American tech.

The USN isn't monolithic after all, wouldn't be surprised if it was just another proposal that didn't go through as what usually happens.

Nagato might have been commissioned for evaluations like Prinz Eugen, but unlikely it would've ever gone into active service. Even then, Nagato was quite old by the time she was surrendered, and there wasn't much new info to discover.

Always loved the Agano class. Just a very aesthetically pleasing design, and they fit very well into Japan's scout cruiser doctrine.
