>>

a metric fuck ton better than the regular polymer 80 shit, more like a jmt with brass inserts and an ffl requirement.

I just want the clear one because it looks cool.

That being said, you could get an anderson or blem psa for $40 as well.

pic not related, lowers are cheap again, get them while you can.

Another part needed to be tweaked was the bolt catch, I just polish the area where bolt catch rub against the receiver so it will tilt when the mag is empty.

Pic is before I polish the bolt catch, it does this to TangoDown, Troy, Magpul and metal USGI mags.

Glocks did this, shit worked out great and paved the way to polymer
Then again he said nylon and brass which have flex
Not something id precision build on

clear lowers when?
>>
>>21889844
Glocks have metal reincforcement at all stress points.
This lower only has it for two threads. Not even bulked up at the buffer where the majority of breakages happen with polymer.

I don't see how brass would be stronger than it would be if the same volume were made of one piece of plastic. In fact, I'd argue it's weaker, since the frame is thinner to accommodate the brass bit; the brass piece is just going to act the same way that a receiver extension would in a solid one-piece plastic lower. The weak point is where metal interfaces with plastic, whether that metal is the receiver extension or this brass ring doesn't matter.

Better materials and thicker plastic ought to make a difference. The brass seems gimmicky to me. Also that clear one is like putting a claymore in front of your face, clear plastic is far more brittle than tinted.

The lower didn't break so what's seems to be the problem? I think only a very small percentage of LPK's front take down pin can take a fall like what happened to yours.
>>
>>21889843
Oh, well that's explains "why brass" and "why so cheap". Brass because they can use cheap brass tubing, why cheap because there's barely any brass. I was hoping that the brass reinforced the area near the rear takedown pin too.
>>
>>21890908

Naval brass. It's used because it's resistant to corrosion. They're calling it that for marketing reasons. "Brass" is too common place of a word but "marine-grade" sounds special. Like "aircraft-grade aluminum".

>>
>>21894806
I've flown in an R22 but that's it.
Why? Are they shitty?
>>
>>21894850
Eh, they're not shitty, but...how do I put this. If Bell is an H&K, the Robinson is a Romanian AK. It's not pretty, it's not high tech, and it's not made out of the finest materials, but she works and works well. My comment was more to address the whole "Dr Pepper alloy is not used in aircraft." That is not an accurate statement. Most soda can alloys are a 3XXX series aluminum. It's used for interior trims and some mounts and things. Nothing Primary or Flight Safety, but it's in there. But it is true you can't just use any aluminum, it has to be certified by the mill and designated by the B/P. Hell we do some parts that go in main rotors that are just pure lead.
>>
>>21894884
Okay true, I didn't really have interior trim in mind.

Woah woah back it up...
Do you work at Robinson?! Are they hiring A&Ps?
>>
>>21894955
That's a negatory there ghost rider. I work at a second tier contractor that manufactures parts for various aerospace manufacturers. Where are you located and what is an A&P? I'm not familiar with that acronym.
>>
>>21894968
That's still pretty cool.

A&P = Airframe and Powerplant mechanic. I'm in Northern California workin' on Cessnas and whatnot.
>>
>>21894994
I gotcha, let's see....well If you feel like moving to DFW you can probably get on with Bell or at DFW airport, or any of the others around here. Given the low cost of living you may earn less a year but pocket more than you do now. Also have Toyota moving here this year. Other than that, there's not a lot of aerospace news right now.

Hi, John Roberts here. One of the owners of Tennessee Arms. Just to answer a couple of questions i've seen. We used brass because of the ease of machining and also brass does not react to anodized aluminum. Also it will hold up to salt water. We have yet to have one fail in the field and our lower is used in some of Frank Proctors carbine classes. He used our lower on his personal lightweight build and he has close to 7000 rounds downrange, his build came in at 5.5 lbs. We haven't had any cracks in the buffer tube or any breaks at the beavertail. www.apexgunsmithing.com has been trying to break our lowers for 2 months without fail. We've mortared them, shot Beowulf with them, beat the hell out of them, and stand behind them 100%. That's why we offer a lifetime warranty on them which does transfer to different owners. If you have any other questions feel free to give me a shout at [email protected]

What machinery do you run? Is it primarily CNC? If so, what manufacturer? Do you do any manual mill work?

I've dabbled in gunsmithing, milling out 80% lowers, making muzzle devices, drawing parts in GIBBS & CAD/CAM and cutting them on a CNC. Is there alot of money to be made in a small shop setup, or do you have to be hundreds of thousands into it before you turn any profit?

We just now got into the laser game. We're trying to start out slow and save money for our hybrid AR10 mold. The injection machines and Epilog Mini flatbed laser are in the shop directly behind our building. We actually rent from the shop that does our molding. The laser I use is the absolute cheapest ($700) K40 chinese laser. Im using it with Corel Draw and the MoshiDraw software that came with the laser for engraving. It's good for stuff with good solid lines but the Epilog mini in the back is where it's at for detailed work. If you want to know about the injection machines i can find out, but i leave the presses to the press guy.

Depends on how complicated the engraving is and if we have that color receiver on hand. Pink, Rifle Green are out until Wednesday and FDE is almost gone until Thursday (we are waiting on brass) But if you want black the turn around would be less than 72 hours.. really depends more on how quick we can get a copy of your FFL's license

While I am very partial to the Kreig lasguns, a straight pistol grip doesn't really fit the theme of that. And I'm trying to keep this as light as possible, so a free-float rail is out of the question, which sucks, because with a little grey paint on the fcg to break up the profile of the big block-like upper+rail I could probably make it look like a m36.
So in short, I have no fucking clue what pattern I'd go for. I guess I'm just gonna throw on a mid-length 16" with OD magpul handguard and throw a purity seal on it

I kind of don't have room to. The logo is made into the mold (this will be interchangable on the AR10 mold for contract jobs or blank receivers) . The Multi-Caliber and Name City and State are there per ATF requirements. The Fire/Safe are also made into the mold. These are either going to be pictograms or interchangeable mold inserts. But yes right side of the receiver is wide open, I usually only do the mag well, but I've been experimenting on going further out.
>>
>>21906551
To be perfectly honest, I don't know the actual blend of that polycarbonate that was used, but where some PCs are brittle... this shit was flexible as hell. When I was tightening down the castle nut, the 12 oclock position on the receiver bent allll the way over to around 1:30 while i was torquing it down in the vise. I could also bend the magwell in with my hands and it would spring back. Now the actual material we will be using is on the same stuff that they use for high impact safety glasses. It's made to take a licking when it's thin. We're making it thick. Hopefully these will be stronger than our actual receivers , and they should just from the shear cost of the material itself

Tom at Apex Gunsmithing was going to do an apples to apples review between our lower and NFA. Problem is, he was going to run mine to death first and then follow with the NFA, both with the poly trigger groups, the problem was that my receiver never broke so he didn't have time to go over the NFA . Good question. We have both of our receiver inserts made in Utah at a Swiss Lathe company just for us since they are one offs and unique to the part world. The inside is just threading as you can tell. but the outside of the rings have what is called "knurling" and the hot material flows into these channels and solidifies . It's kind of the same principal that keeps teflon sticking to pans. We have found it impossible to remove the inserts once they are in their final position without damaging them beyond repair.

We haven't had any customers dye their lowers. We have had them painted, hydro-dipped, and rattlecanned . Boiling would soften up the material while it is hot, but I wouldn't recommend Boiling it..we've put them in a crock pot on high before to reshape the trigger cavity (Gen One Problems...fixed now) So I would go that route if you are going to be mixing dye in a hot liquid. If the color doesn't hold on 200 degree water, then i would move it up to hotter water, but I would cool it immeadiatly after removing from the hot water to prevent warping. It shouldn't warp at all, crock pot lowers needed constant clamp pressure to deform the material.. so you should be good. These are tough little bastards.
>>
>>21909209
Thats what I was wondering, I didn't know if you guys just glued them in (which is what would have been a deal breaker for me) or if you actually molded it in, which is what it sounds like it is.

How do you make sure that the brass fitting, for say the buffer tube, is aligned and straight inside of the lower? I can't imagine that it is easy, and I could see other manufacturers getting it off-center. Causing a off-center buffer tube.

We just don't throw the ring in the mold, there is an insert..for the insert..Yo Dawg..anyways. It's a round chunk of metal the same diameter as the insert that we drop an insert on then when you drop it in the mold, the pocket it sits in does all the lining up for it. Haven't had a rejection for a misaligned one yet.

>home defense

Lightweight or standard. All it really matters is how fast your barrel heats up and accuracy begins to degrade at range. For an HD gun you need the lightest, most maneuverable rifle you can get, and you won't be firing hundreds of rounds to 100 yards and farther, so you won't experience heat issues.

For a general purpose rifle that will double as a range gun/defensive rifle, standard is the best middleground.

For a dedicated range gun, especially one that'll be shot at a decent distance often, a heavy barrel is the most practical.

is there any major disadvantage to lightweight? i mean... longevity wise? i plan on getting a chrome bore for easy cleaning so i can shoot cheap ammo. (i will mostly be shooting it at a range, probably putting a couple hundred rounds through it in a few hours)

im used to shooting slav guns, this is my first AR platform rifle... put together the lower and am now looking to buy an upper from model1sales.

also, im getting a 16" barrel. is the lightweight barrel even going to be a noticable difference? they dont list how much lighter it is anywhere and i only have 1st hand experience with a standard..

>is there any major disadvantage to lightweight? i mean... longevity wise?

Nope, they last just as long as anything else. The profile of the barrel has nothing to do with barrel life.

Some noguns and fudds will say LW barrels have a shorter life, but can't say how, and it's well documented that nothing that kills barels cares about the profile.

AFAIK the difference between LW and standard is about a half pound. Given that weight is all up front, you definitely notice the difference. LW barrels tend to balance out rifles better and point quicker.

I'd definitely recommend a LW barrel for the purposes you're describing, or most builds for regular people. Remember the "standard" profile was developed for automatic weapons. Since you won't be dumping 180 rounds in a few minutes 99.99% of the time, that extra weight is usually just extra weight.

He killed everyone, or almost everyone, with a Shrubmaster AR. He had a G20 he offed himself with. He also had a P226 that, as far as I know, was never fired, and a Saiga-12 in his trunk.
>>
>>21909527
there IS a difference when shooting full auto. A heavy barrel distributes the heat better, and it can take much more heat without damaging the treatment of the metal.
If you are not doing alot of full auto shooting, then you don't need a heavy barrel. you won't see a difference in barrel life

I already mentioned the heat issues in the first post. Apart from said issues, which you won't come across unless you're doing a lot of magdumps/full auto and then immediately trying to print tight groups in paper, you won't notice it. The average person will never overheat a LW AR barrel to the point of accuracy degradation through casual plinking, HD, hunting, or even many competitions.

He shot through a window in the front lobby and walked right in. What mass killer has ever asked to be buzzed in?

> our news said he had like 4 loaded handguns and no rifles, th

The news everywhere kept saying different stuff on different stations before the police actually came out and gave their report. It was a bunch of retard reporters making shit up as usual based on rumor and hoping that when the official report comes out, their BS version is actually what happened so they could have been the "first" to report it.

But yeah, the official report has always been an AR, G20, P226, and Saiga 12. The Saiga and P226 were not used, the G20 was only used in his suicide.

i live in NY and we are capped at 10rd mags... i doubt i will ever have a problem putting that many rounds through the gun haha.

these laws are so gay... i gotta go here and get my upper because making your own ban complaint upper is a pain in the ass...

http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=314

i was considering going with a magnesium lower or something like that for lightweight, but i decided on standard... having a heavy base will make it much more balanced.

after all this im going to have to put an FRS-15 on it ($150)... so im getting a triangle grip so i can pretend im a stormtrooper..... atleast i wont have to register it. and it still scares the shit out of noguns.

anyone know a good place to get good 10/20 or 10/30 mags for a reasonable price?

i think since my gun is modeled after a M4 i should probably go with the 10/20...

such is life as being profun in a nofun state.

My condolences bro. I used to be in Syracuse, but moved back home to Detroit and sweet freedom as soon as SAFE kicked in.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like you'd ever need a standard or heavy barrel unless you were trying for a target rifle, something to shoot out to a few hundred yards.

I had to google "FRS-15" and then I got sad.

I'd recommend looking at the Ares SCR for a bullshit--compliant AR, but Ares has a habit of producing pseudo-vaporware so I don't know if it'll ever actually come out. Still, it's a great idea and I hope they make lots of themm, because even I want one and I live in a free state.

model1sales seems to be the only place selling compliant uppers.

i honestly never had an interest in an AR platform until they decided i shouldnt own one.

ive got an AK, multiple SKSs... one of them i bubbad out just to piss liberals off. and am m1 garand that i cant test because i have nowhere to shoot. the only range here that isnt crazy overpriced and doesnt have a mile long waiting list is the public ranges... which are either pistol/.22lr only, or only let you load 1 round at a time so i cant even check if my m1 cycles correctly.

i live in putnam county, used to live in clinton county. they posted every registered gun owners address publicly, and a bunch got robbed.... so ill never own a pistol... except the 1 that im not supposed to have.

It's based on a VERY popular Hentai manga, about a boy who always makes fun of his sisters small boobs, and always slaps them, but when she gets older her boobs grow to a huge size, eventually she starts to slap his dick and.. well.. it leads to incestuous sex.
Oh, btw this thread has reached its post limit. Threads on 4chan reach a post limit and eventually are no longer bumped, eventually they will fall into the board post limit and it will be automatically deleted, so don't be surprised if in a couple hours this thread is gone. that's why not many people are posting in it anymore, because it's so far down.
In fact, I'll continue this onto a new thread, since this one is dying

Yeah, killdozer is something of a hero amongst some circles here in Colorado. Basically bank and local authorities tried to run this guys life into the ground, last thing he did was make the killdozer his pet project.

It worked really well until it got stuck in a basement ledge and he shot himself.

Man, I remember watching it on news.
