Home-clearing is a little too paranoid, and being that anal about your draw hand is kinda dumb because in a situation wherein I'd have to draw my weapon, any possible thing I could be holding short of a baby is easily worth me instantly dropping it to make my draw, which would take no extra time to do.
You're also probably being way too anal about your ammo. Think about it, if at every six-month interval all rounds you dispense of fire fine, then obviously they last that long no problem and will last longer. Ammo can go for years assuming it's kept well enough so as not to corrode.
Situational awareness is a good trait though.

Jesus Christ. I could have easily been shot/killed today thanks to horrible gun safety/etiquette and I am mad as hell and need to rant.

The best place to check out would be the FOSSCAD IRC channel if you want the most up-to-date 3D printed gun stuff.
Guns like the Liberator which are designed to be as fully 3D printable as possible are handicapped by the small material selection available to most people (or at least at an affordable price). A bunch of 3D printing patents recently expired and we'll be seeing a whole new generation of low(ish) cost printers with much broader capabilities.
In the meantime, it is best used for low-stress components. There are plenty of AR-15 lowers optimized for 3D printing, for instance. Hell, here's a gif of a guy successfully test firing an AR-10 with printed lower.

I'm looking to buy my first gun, and I want it to be a rifle since that's the gun I'm most likely to practice with (my skeet skills are sorely lacking, and I'm 8 months too young to buy a handgun in my state). I've been looking at my options, and with the added complication of a $150 budget, it seems like my rifle options are limited to something in .22 LR, specifically the Savage 64 F, Remington 702 Plinkster, and maybe if I can find one tommorow once I've got my banking stuff in order, a Marlin Model 60. (I like the idea of a Model 60, as there's something anachronistic and awesome about a semi with a tube mag).
I'm going to be using this mostly for bullseye target practice at up to about 100 yards, as I don't have a need for varmint control given where I live.
Which is best is a dumb question (like always) but what I will ask is what's each one like to shoot? Are mags available easily for them? What's the trigger pull like, and how are ergonomics for people with normal hands? Are the sights any good? How about reliability?
