What would happen if this thing fired? My assumption is that the casing would fly out of the barrel, but would it explode? Would it damage the barrel of the gun? Or would the hammer keep the cartridge in place?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>34403469
First off, we know that with enough mass and a proper application of force, a "hammer" (or a bolt) can keep a cartridge seated long enough to keep you from being hurt, and then have juuuuust enough pressure to eject the spent casing and slap a new one in and fire it.

It's called and open bolt mechanism.

Now.

You're essentially trying the same thing but with a hammer. So the question becomes "how much does the hammer weigh?"
Do you know what cartridge you'd be firing?
How strong is the mainspring?
And I'm assuming the hammer would fully envelope the cartridge.

But. Beyond all this, we get to one problem that no amount of engineering and inventing can fix.
The fact that open bolt firearms are, single shot or semi auto only or not, treated as machine Guns because lolATF.

Question for you internet lawyers. Does justifiable homicide apply to pregnant women? If a pregnant woman does a crime for which men are normally shot, may she likewise be shot?

Evening /k/

Wanted your collective opinion on something.

I'm not one of those people who collect guns, I only have one gun which is a glock 19 that I have for personal protection.

Lately I've been thinking of trading my g19 for a g30s.

Would this be an ok trade? Or should I just stick with my g19? Would you trust the performance of a .45 more than a 9mm?

Like I said I just want a gun for personal protection and I do love my g19, but should I bet on a 9mm over a .45?

Thanks

Stick with the 19. It is far more versatile than a G30S.

>Would you trust the performance of a .45 more than a 9mm?

Let's think about it.
>Glock 19
>much more shootable as it is a compact sized gun
>Glock 30S
>smaller sized pistol in .45 so in theory, it is less shootable
>holds less rounds than the 19
>just as heavy
>.45 Glocks are thicker than 9mm and .40 versions

Don't do it. You're on the right track having a Glock 19 as your one handgun. If you really want a smaller Glock, get the 26 but do not trade out your 19. The ballistic difference between 9mm and .45 is neglible. What will make you more effective is more practice and professional instruction, not a new caliber.
>>
>>34403070
If you keep your Glock strictly for protection, then keep the 19. 9mm is cheaper to train with, and the extra rounds a 19 can hold in a flush mag will be a godsend in a worst case scenario. There is no noticeable difference in handgun caliber effectiveness (unless you jump into handcannon territory), so hot 9mm is a safe bet.
>>
Don't trade it or sell it. If there's one gun to have, it's a G19. If there's a second, it's an AR. There is nothing 9mm can't do that a .45acp can.

So I went into the store today and found a Saiga in .223 for about $800 and thought to myself maybe. It's CA compliant. Should I?

>>
they always looked really cool to me but 800 seems steep, also are the mags proprietary?
>>
>>34403129
All I know is the 10 mag included is as strong as cia 2010 USGI Stang magazines. SKS's aren't getting much cheaper for that range ether.
>>
>>34403388
You can still get a solid SKS for 400 though, I don't really see the point in spending double for getting a product, that while decent, is really not worth that much.

What would be your choices?
Scenarios:
>Home Defense
>Personal defense
>Hunting and shit after a SHTF situation, be it economic collapse, commie insurgency and dealing with guerrillas or escaping government tyranny

Laws:
>Only repetition or semi-auto
>Short guns: Ammunition that has less than 300 foot-pounds (407 J) of energy, like .22LR, .25 Auto, .32 Auto, .32 S&W, .38SPL, .380 Auto
>Long guns with rifled barrels: ammunition with at most 1000 pound-foot (1355 J) of energy, like .22 LR, .32-20, .38-40 and .44-40
>Smoothbored long guns: 12 gauge or with the barrel being at least 24 (610 mm) inches long, or ones with lesser calibers of any size.
>At most 6x36mm scopes
>Can only legally buy 50 cartridges per year for each gun
>Can have at most 6 guns, 2 of each kind allowed above
>+Any number of Airguns (pressure or spring-based): Caliber smaller than 6mm

Also
>Can only buy bulletproof vests that protect you from legal guns (criminals use guns stronger than that and may walk in packs but have shit aim).
>Shall issue, so you might be denied anyway (vast majority of people are, suppose I'm not)
>Must pay more than a month's worth of minimum wage to buy licenses (I can do it)
>Needs to renew each gun's registry every 3 years
>Older than 25
>Technical and psychological exams
>No criminal records
>Must be employed and have a house
>It's illegal to carry unless you're in the military, a politician or a few other privileged classes

Help me settle a debate, /k/. If you balance the very end of the rifle barrel on something other than a bipod, does it affect the accuracy? Allegedly it fucks with the barrel harmonics.

Gunbroker

For strictly home defense, a standard 75 is great.
For any kind of carrying, get a PCR or P-01
For more effective home defense with slightly less nostalgic aesthetic, SP-01

I like decockers personally, but safeties are good and proven. Train with whatever you buy.

Don't fall for the Omega meme

Buy one with a decocker. My first handguns were a SA 1911 and a CZ75BD.

Cz75 is a great first gun. Pick one you like, but id go with a decocking model.

There are a few Euro models used by their militaries that look pretty spiffy, but I don't think those are available for sale.
