I saw this brought up a week ago and want to go further into it. Having vision problem as of late has helped remind me.

In my opinion the blind should definitely be allowed to own and carry firearms, heck, they're the kind of folks who need to defend themselves most.
Not to mention if I lost my vision, one of the few hobbies I have that I could still do would be blasting ammo at the range. If that were taken away from me then I'd me way more depressed than having gone blind alone.

>On the range, McWilliams learned to take aim by listening to the sound of his target being wheeled back against the wall. It served him very well. McWilliams says he shot better than two-thirds of his class, and in his final exam scored 105 out of 100, with one bullet somehow ricocheting and passing through the target twice.

>Carey McWilliams started hunting in 2008. When ducks fly across the sky, he says, they make a sound like bicycle tyres on a pavement, and he traces them with the barrels of his rifle. For other types of hunting, such as stalking elk, he goes out with a companion, who whispers directions - up a bit, left a bit, right a bit - but who is not permitted to touch his weapon.

>With help from his father, a chemical engineer with about 20 patents to his name, Miekka bought a cadmium sulphide photocell and wired it to turn visual information into clicks like those on a Geiger counter. The clicks intensified when the device was pointed at the outlines of objects, allowing Miekka to make out the edges of buildings and roads.

>"I found out that it worked best with a telescope," Miekka recalls, "and at about the same time my best friend Bill was getting into target shooting, and he said, 'Why don't we try mounting it on a gun and seeing how it works?'"

>Over the years Miekka, now 54, has refined his technology, moving over to a pair of stereoscopic photodiodes. His latest scope, made together with a gunsmith, allows him to pick out an orange target of 0.17in (4mm) diameter at 100 yards (91 metres) - something he says four friends with 20-20 vision could not do. It can also pick out standard National Rifle Association (NRA) targets, allowing him to compete against sighted shooters.

>"I like going out to the range and out-shooting people that can see," says Miekka. His father, Dick Miekka, has never beaten him

Im looking for some expert advice. Im currently in the market for my first battle rifle. I wanted an Ar15 for the amount of customization however, I noticed the top manufacturers usually have it calibered at .223 I was thinking and Ak-47 for more power. What are some other rifles that offer customization with some power and not to unreasonable price wise.

>buy quality ar15
>buy quality red dot
>buy a decent 2 point sling
>spend your money on an appleseed class to establish a solid base of marksmanship fundamentals
>master the basics
>move onto attending a quality carbine class
>practice what you have learned there regularly at the range
>you are now proficient and more effective than 99.95% of the fuckboys that have ar15s on /k/

Get an ak like an SLR107/107FR if you feel like you are more interested in them. The more you're interested or like a gun, the more you will want to go out and shoot it. The difference between 5.56 and 7.62x39 is negligible, let's even throw in 5.45x39 in there too. It's entirely up to the shooter in terms of what they can do with a rifle.
>>
>>34469165
you need to look up the term battle rifle and figure out some basic stuff first, and then get a gun
remember, 308 is more expensive than intermediate cartridges

I'm just gonna head this off for ya here, since you seem like someone who's never even thought about firearms until the past couple days outside of the "GUNS ARE SCARY" context, so let's start with some basics, shall we?

AR15s and AK-pattern rifles are not battle rifles. They are semi-automatic carbines. First and foremost, battle rifles fire a FULL POWER cartridge. 7.62x51- a round very similar to hunting rifle rounds- or bigger.
ARs and AKs- which shoot 5.56x45 and 7.62x39 respectively- are good personal defense rifles, and I wouldn't hesitate to carry either for defense.

But, the AK's 7.62 cartridge is slightly more powerful. However, for most of our purposes it doesn't make a difference. That and ammunition can be problematic to find in the States.

The AR and AK both are nearly deafening when fired in an enclosed space, and ammo is expensive. Less so than a .308, but it is still expensive (anywhere from 20 cents to more than a dollar per round, depending what particular ammunition.)

You know what isn't either of those, and is still sufficiently powerful given good shot placement?

A Ruger 10/22.

>Lightweight
>cheap
>takedown models for easy transportation
>Just powerful enough for humans at close range
>Ammo is dirt-cheap
>reliable, accurate, easy to shoot
>You can modify one to do anything you need of it with drop-in components.

Is it the most powerful rifle? No. But it's cheap, easy to practice with, and if you decide to sell it off to buy something more, once you've LEARNED more and figured out what you, specifically, need, it'll hold its market value.

Or you can use it to teach your child, if/when you have one.

No wonder it lost the MHS contract. FN can take all of these unnecessarily small parts, springs, and pins and stick them up their dicks.

It's a pretty nice pistol on the range, I just don't know how FN thought this would win a military contract.

MDfag here, and it's a little weird, desu.

Baltimore City and PG county are Detroit/Flint-tier dindu-infested democratic party shitholes, Montgomery and Howard Counties are both chock full of upper middle class white suburban soccer moms and their cuck husband's, and Baltimore County is full of blue collar bootlickers along with niggers, soccer moms, and cucks. All of the above are responsible for our awful, "at least we're not MA/NY/NJ/CA-tier gun laws.

Meanwhile, the rest of the state is nothing but "America! Fuck yeah!" types and gets Tennessee/Alabama-tier southern real fast, and the Eastern Shore feels freakishly similar to Louisiana. At least the shooting community has a good vibe.

Can someone tell me if I understand mil dots correctly?

The target is a 72 inch tall man. He spans 5 mils at the current range:

Distance = 72in * 1000/5mil = 14400in = 400yd

I then apply a holdover, assuming I have 36in of bullet drop at 400 yd with the rifle zeroed at 100yd. Assume at 400yd,1 mil = 14.4in

To compensate for 36in of drop:
36in/(14.4in/mil) = 2.5 mil holdover

Handgun bullets wound by poking holes. The bullet which makes the biggest hole while still sufficiently penetrating would thereby be the best. Due to the caliber and weight of the projectile no standard (I'll include 10 for shits and gigs) caliber produces hollow points which expand larger than the 45.

Due to the relatively slow velocity the petals of the HP do no immediately peel back all the way thereby creating a larger permanent cavity than say a 9mm +p+. Like 9 & 40, 45 benefits from high levels of r&d by the major ammo manufacturers and has access to the best HPs.

Expansion diameter across most hollow point brands is roughly 33% larger than 9. Though neither are particularly wide it should be remembered that the final width is smaller than when the HP is fully opened up, prior to the petals peeling back. Permanent cavities 1.5 to 1.75 inches in width are not uncommon.

>that being said

Though 45 is superior to 9 & 40, (and perhaps 10 though no concrete testing has been done), it also has drawbacks that must be considered. Namely

>capacity

and to a lesser extent

>recoil

It should be remembered that even the venerable glock has shown reliability issues with 10mm, and most other 10s have fairly substandard capacity, bulky size and weight, and fairly slow follow up shots due to muzzle rise.

Please visit this site to make your own conclusions:

http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/
>>
9mm is for fucking women, numales and asians who have small hands and can't shoot anything with more recoil. 9mm is a dirty Yuropoor-made caliber for their effiminate men.

The 10mm is a bear stopping round.

If it were up to me I would ban anybody who can't shoot a 10mm from ever owning guns.
