So what exactly are 'special forces'? Are they a new thing or have they been around for awhile? Are people full of shit when they say things like 'Caesar's 13th legion were the special forces of their day' or 'The Companion Cavalry was the special forces of their day'?
>>34467129
Don't know much about historical units but modern special forces work as we know it today was started by the SAS in world war 2. Kennedy helped jump start the SEALs and Green Berets in the early 60s.

if you meet anybody that is in one of the units ask them about the history because they know it. i just know in the usa it's kind of a mix of the standard special units you find in other countries, but our military kind of incorporated shit from native americans too, link related.

It's where you go if you're too dumb for regular forces.
Texasfags. You like blades? Starting September first we can publicly carry whatever we want! I make big blades!

Good for a handy tool. I wouldnt really want to use it as self defense though only as a last resort.

I recently picked up a sportarized 1918 SMLE III for $125, I plan on replacing all the bubbad furniture with correct wood. I've managed to find replacements for everything except the bottom handgaurd for under 80 bucks. But the last peice I can only find beat to shit ones for $100+ what should I do?
>also fuck fudds.
Some of the worst damage is here where they tried to thin the stock down by whittling it
Bubbas spent the last 70 years chopping up antique military rifles; we're going to spend the next 70 years putting them back the way they were.
Good start, anon.

>what should I do?
Bite the proverbial bullet and spend the money on the correct handguard. If you wanted a cheap hobby, you should have taken up shuffleboard.
You're one of three men in a humvee with a mounted gun on top. You're deep in hostile territory with no backup and your wheels and gat are all you have.

I was going through some boxes of my uncle's old stuff and I unexpectedly found this shotgun(sans stock) behind a box. I tried to pump it and the action went all the way back into where the stock would be, pinching the fuck out of my hand. It would only go back about halfway up the barrel, where it is in pic related. I know it isn't an 870 or a Mossberg because it has no ejection port. The only marking I could find was one that was faded to shit and said something something "proof testing". Any ideas as to what it is?

Remington model 10s eject out of the loading gate, fuckwad.
Like a BPS.
In fact, the BPS was based on the Model 10 with some improvements because JMB was a fan of Pedersen (the guy who made this)
They're excellent in terms of how sealed of the Guns are from mud and shit.
What does /k/ think about the 25-06?
I'd rather use .270win for necked down .30-06.
>>34466057
It makes me wonder why they didn't opt for those stupidly long 120-140gr 6.5mm bullets instead so we could fix the mild velocity issue with 6.5x55.
>>34466084
6.5mm-06 is a thing. It just hasn't been standardized yet. 25-06 was a wildcat for many years before Remington finally decided to standardize it. Maybe with the popularity of 6.5mm cartridges, someone will decide to standardize 6.5mm-06.
I have an unhealthy obsession with wheelguns and levergats, especially the S&W Model 3. Probably going to pick up a Uberti Schofield in a few months.

How does Russia's Spetsnaz stack up against Western special forces?
>>34471964
Which Spetznaz unit?
Probably worse considering their training budget and facilities are worse, they're support is less capable and more limited, and the population they have to draw from is poorer and less educated.
1 Spetsnaz > 5 Delta.
Us, Russians, are the best warriors the world has seen. Nobody can even come close. Not only our SF are superior to any Western and non-Western SF our EW capabilities are simply mind boggling to everyone else. Just take a look at Donald Cook incident.
>>34471964
idk but 10 spetsnaz can easily kill 20 SAS in wargame red dragon
help /k/
I'm about to buy my my first EDC pistol, and I'm leaning towards a 9mm, however the .45 is slower, so over-penetration is less of a concern. Which is better? Should I compromise and stick with my Glock 20 with the .40 barrel?
Also what pistol should I get? I'm a big guy, and I won't say I'm a rich man, but not really concerned about price tag so much as would rather get something that doesn't suck that I can practice a lot with. A safety is a must, and want something I can plonk an optic on.
Right now I'm looking at the FNX45T and the Sig P320 (haven't decided on Compact vs. full yet). Feel free to tell me why I am wrong or dumb.
Also caliber war thread general I guess
>>34465157
9. Load it up with 9bple and call it done. More rounds usually, especially if you're going double stack. More rounds means higher likelihood that you make a hit means a higher likelihood that you come out of the nightmare alive.
...What the fuck is this? If not bait, then congratulations on considering getting your first gun.
So 45 will penetrate reliably because of its mass, often considered more reliable than 9mm to get through windshields. Next, fnx is too big to cc due to size and weight.
Honestly I think the modularity of the sig 320 is your best bet. I always recommend 9mm, but 45 has its merits. Don't get .40 because I project the ammo cost of it to skyrocket once supplies run out in a few years as less and less professional agencies want to field it- short term though prices will drop but it depends on how future proof you want your gun to be.
In the end it Depends on what you're most comfortable with. Go to a range and rent a bunch of different things
just find the one that costs the most money and has a picture of a navy seal on the front
the general rule is how much money you spend directly correlates with your skills as an operator
So I found an IMBEL marked Pacific Armaments Corp. for $1000 at an LGS. It is more than likely a parts kit gun, but is there a way to tell for sure how well it was put together, and if its good, is it worth $1000?
An IMBEL for an incel - sounds perfect for you.
If it's all metric and the bore is good it's worth it. Matching parts pushes it over.
>>34464623
Is there a way to check if everything is all metric?
So this happend about a week ago, green texting for effect i geuss.

Hollowpoint defense ammunition. Shit tends to be pricy but you only need to buy enough for one incident.

Only have 1 gunz. Like you I got gifted a rifle by a family member who did not like it after he shot it a few times. Ruger Scout .308. Not ideal, but for a busted ass broke guy I really appreciated getting it.
