Hey guys,
I currently have a screaming deal set up on 1k rounds of surplus 7.62x54r. The seller has agreed to .35 cpr. It would be enough ammo to last me a few years in my PSL, but I'm concerned about cleaning the gas system. Do any of you have experience with this? There's a ton on forum posts with varying advice. Run a hose in your AK, hot water, soapy water, ballistol, windex, ammonia, etc. I live in a humid climate during the summer so rust is a concern.

Am I worrying too much? Can I really just stick a hose in my PSL for a few minutes and then use a patch? Or is it an intensive process digging through every crevice?

I paid over 1k for the gun recently and am paranoid.

I know this is really specific so I don't know what actual value this thread provides other members of /k/ but I didn't know where else to get a feeler for this: I have a Windham Weaponry MPC with the carry handle and under it, the standard piccy-rail if I took it off - however the front sight is the gas block as I've been told and if I put a sight on the rail it would be perma co-witness and I'm not sure I dig that for a red-dot/holo optic).
I've never had optics before but I've shot BB-guns and 22's all growing up so I'm pretty solid with iron sights. I've been thinking about something in the 500-700 range? I keep going back to thinking the T-2 is super solid. Though the Vortex UH-1 (even with the retical issues is interesting especially if they figure out how to get the doubling taken care of) looks decent maybe. My question is - if the rifle cost (4 years ago) 850 new, and they say not to go too much over half of your rifle price for optics - would it be foolish to spend that much? I mean an Aimpoint PRO would probably do it. I don't want to buy trash though. I have no time for Holosun, etc. even if people swear by them or think they're "just as good" - I'm not going that route.
I was thinking Aimpoint Pro, T-2, Trijicon MRO, or Vortex Uh-1? Steer me into a direction? Bully me? Whatever...
(It's for home defense, plinking and SHTF. I'm not larping as an 0p3r80r but I can't stand chincy shit)

Are there any decent guides on how to paint a rifle without screwing it up? I know that some militaries use tape, cover the rifle, paint it, then take the tape off when they're done. But I would like to paint mine a little bit more " camo ", with flat colors... and I really don't want to screw up a $7,000+ dollar rifle / scope.

took my JRA built BM-59 out to the range on the 3rd and had some issues

first 12 rounds were fine, then I got an FTE where the extractor ripper the rim off
the case came out with just the weight of a cleaning rod

a couple rounds later, it happened again, and left a little hangnail of rim
I accidentally reclosed it and jammed it up too hard to move (I think the hangnail of rim was the culprit)

today, I had time to deal with it, it opened with a couple taps with a small rubber hammer
the brass had this odd tarnishing pattern on it

think this might be indicative of a rough chamber or some shmoo in the chamber?

the ammo I was using was Austrian Hirtenberger StG58 7.62 Real Fuckin' NATO, so I doubt the issue is soft brass and NATO spec surplus is what JRA recommended

sorry, I do not have any other pieces of brass to compare

I tried asking in the Q.T.D.D.T.O.T. thread but got brand fanboyism so here I go!
Should I get a Glock 19 with a top tier aftermarket trigger, match barrel, and steel sights or a SIG P229? They end up being the same price.
[my opinions follow, feel free to disregard]
I like that I can hold down the hammer while holstering the SIG but I'm not sure how I feel about DA/SA vs striker fired beyond that. The Glock trigger I want is really good travel and break wise but as a carry trigger I can't safely have it as light as the SIG's SA trigger. Ergonomics are a wash really, both fit my hand and point well despite beind so different grip and bore axis wise. The one thing I can't test is balance once I put a light on because the range bully won't let me. Finally I like that I can put pretty wood grips on the SIG, but I'm not sure if I can get a finish that will match the steel slide to the aluminum frame anyways, which makes me almost favor the Glock's look for being more intentionally disparate. I know I could spend less on the Glock but I refuse to compromise.

I watch ton of videos on situational awareness while carrying, and the thing i keep hearing is "watch out for people who don't look you straight in the eye and their eyes are darting around or look uneasy"
The thing is I do that. I don't like looking people in the eye. It's something I work on but it doesn't mean I'm going to shank someone or that I'm lying. In fact I suck at lying.

How do I develop skills to differentiate between people who might be looking for trouble and people who might just suck at social interaction like me?

How about a concealed carry/situational awareness general.
