Hey /k/, I've never browsed here much. I want to become a gun owner and I live in az. Im 18 and don't know anything about it. I was wondering if someone here could talk to me about it so I could learn what I need to know or to get.

why do you want a gun? blasting intruders, preparing for disaster, hunting? just because they're neat? any reason to be armed is a good reason, but the answers are different depending on what purpose you have planned. what's your price range, do you live in the city, or a rural area, do you live alone or with family/roommates, do you live in an apartment?

not trying to bombard you with questions, really, but we need to know more to help you pick out what best suits you.

I'm wanting to own for self defense so probably a handgun but I would like to shoot for fun at target ranges. I don't necessarily wanna cheap out but I don't wanna save up more than 500$ to spend. I live with family still since I can't afford a home

well, first of all it's illegal in most states for vendors to sell a handgun to anyone under the age of 21. judging by a number of factors, I'd say your best option is a hi-point carbine.

they're rugged and reliable, accurate enough, and chambered in a pistol caliber of your choosing. That way when it's time for you to pick a handgun, you can have commonality of ammunition, which eases your logistics.

also, it can be loaded with hollow-points. this both increases the likelihood of your first shot stopping an assailant, and also reduces the chance that if you miss, your shot will penetrate the wall and hurt someone on the other side (which is why I was asking about your living arrangements)

they also have one of the largest selections of aftermarket parts available so you can really tune it to your exact needs.

About to deploy to Syria. If you had $10k saved up to play with would you get a navy Luger and c96, or 20 acres of undeveloped land in CO?

Get the land and build something nice

if i could buy 20 acres for 10k i would easily.

Its piss easy to use land to generate funds to buy guns, but guns don't generate land very well.

I'm not sure what to buy.

9 or smaller will be just fine for that

If you get the lc9s, consider that the light weight makes the recoil a little tougher. Follow ups shots might be a problem.

Henry by default since they are the only ones not making them in turkey or china. I don't know if they are out for sale yet though, and they are like $350.

H&R for used ones.

Singles aren't even really that good of a deal anymore, H&R's are like $150+ now, at least in my area.

ITT: reddit humor for 12 year olds

Hi there /k/. I was wondering how drones would do in air to air combat roles. I know that they don't have much situational awareness, and that they are mostly designed for attacking ground targets. But is it possible that in the near future that drones could be used for anti aircraft combat roles?
16 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Absolutely yes, though it probably wouldn't make sense to have it be operated by a human operator to the same extent current UAVs are, it would have to be able to make split second autonomous decisions.
>>
>>35119681
I think automating drones for dogfighting would be incredibly hard considering that humans are to unpredictable to have pre selected responses to. Also there isn't that much data (I assume) of dogfighting for a self learning a.i.. Let's just say that I wouldn't want to be the engineer tasked with automating flight combat.

Seriously though, i bought a Zephyr(Rohm) 22 short revolver for 90 dollars today.

How'd i do. It looks brand new and is still in time/ has good lockup
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>35119566

1. Wrong Rohm. Hinkley used an RG-14, not an RG-10.
2. 90 isn't horrible in today's market if it's in really nice condition and it's Zephyr branded.
3. Zephyr was an Arminius branding, which later was under the FIE umbrella, but the RG-10's were pre-68.

So not bad famfam

What are you going to do with said freedom dispenser?

Hey /k/ommandos,
I'm looking for a gun to take with me while I do some outdoors-men type of stuff. I want something I can hold by my side while I'm alone with nothing but my thoughts and bright glare of the moons and stars.

>I need something that can last in the cold, I like to go camping in the fall and winter with a tent
>It needs to be reliable, of course
>Could stop a black bear if need be
>Doesn't look tactical, other campers stare at me strangely
>Preferably wood, it just feels better to snuggle with
>Legal in all 50 states
>Not too expensive, don't wanna have to break into tears when my new gun has a few dents
>I don't want to feed it ammo that costs the equivalent to what a factory worker in China makes in a year

I need your help /k/

I just got two handgun permits, and one of them will be going toward a 1911, the other is for a .357, but I can't decide on which one.

Anyone have any major preferences of either the Blackhawk or 686+?

Keep in mind the use will primarily be range toy.

If it helps, I also have a Henry Big Boy in .357 so if just keeping the Western theme through multiple firearms with the Blackhawk (or Vaquero?) is a good reason I'll take it.

Where do you live? Do you live somewhere you can get Manurhins or Korths? If you do, I would avoid Rugers and S&Ws entirely.

best .357's

>early colt pythons
>s&w 686 without lock
>manurhin mr73
>s&w model 27
>ruger gp100 i guess
>ruger blackhawk i guess

the best out of those, nobody would agree unanimously. pythons are smooth but delicate, expensive, and the later models aren't as good. model 27 is very large and heavy. ruger is considered a lower range brand and has bias against it. manurhin is french and hard to get anything that isn't some surplus, and the 686 has so many changes through its production that it's hard to decide which version is the best other than the ones before the lock.

just as an aside, IMO the best 686 is the 7 shot no lock model. it's practically impossible to find and people want $1000+ for them.

TL;DR depends on what you really want, nobody will agree
