>the following two posts reference the essay found here
>http://www.killology.com/sheep_dog.htm

Do any of you fancy yourself sheepdogs?

While I have some serious problems with the metaphor, I do find it uniquely useful in explaining the mentality of law enforcement and the worst of military veterans.

There are people who actually believe that everyone except them are sheep, but that they are the noble protectors standing watch over the flock. In fact, they are like sheepdogs, but not in the way they espouse. Rather, they are property of some shepherd, and they exist only to do his bidding, whatever it may be. What the shepherd bids is the exploitation of the sheep by force.

As a sheep, you are property as well. You must give wool to the shepherd. You must give milk to the shepherd. You must make children and give them to shepherd for lamb chops. The sheepdog is instrumental in exacting this fealty from you. The shepherd can't control you himself, so he sics his dogs on you. They bite you and they bark at you and they herd you where the shepherd wants you to go. There is nothing you can do about it.

So far I've mentioned the sheep and the sheepdogs, and brought up the missing character from the metaphor, the shepherd. But what of the wolves? The problem with the wolves in the metaphor is that they imply that there are "good guys" and "bad guys" and that these roles are inherent and immutable. Grossman goes so far as to say the wolves are "aggressive sociopaths" who lack all empathy for other human beings. He attributes all crime to such people, being clear that he thinks only such inherently evil monsters would ever go against the law (that is, the will of the shepherd).

But I say wolves aren't monsters. They are just dogs who don't kowtow to the whims of a selfish master. No, their job isn't to herd and harass sheep. Their job is to live their own lives and be free.

Some wolves do wander near the flock and take a sheep. That is true. But most wolves don't. Most wolves live in the woods and keep to themselves. Their crime isn't a lack of empathy. Their only crime is not serving the shepherd.

And frankly, that's no crime at all.

So what are you /k/? Are you sheepdogs, or are you wolves?

That's a pretty good deconstruction OP.

I've been green-texting my silly stories on /k/ over the past couple weeks. This is tales from the gun counter #5. I work part time at a gun counter in a large retail store. I get a good discount, and enjoy the supplemental income. I am enthusiastic about sporting goods, and try my best to help everyone who comes into the store. Some of these stories are slightly exaggerated, this thread is for humor. Once again I'll invite everyone to share any funny gun shop related stories they have as I post my shitty greentext.

FAQ:

Q: Why won't you give .22lr to people, asshole?

A: My store sells plenty of .22lr throughout the week. In order to combat hording of .22lr, we place a limit on the amount of .22lr customers may buy, this limit may change based on how much we have in stock. Ordinarily, we sell bricks of 500 for $26, limit 1 per customer, or boxes of 50rds @ ~$4 limit 3 to 5 per customer. Sometimes we have have bricks of 1000 rounds for $55. This product is in high demand, it is not unusual for customers to buy the limit, then send in three or four friends to buy more for them. Our store wants to provide good customer service, and selling 5,000 rounds to the hoarder who walks in one minute after opening on Monday morning, then having empty shelves all week for the rest of the customers is bad for business. It is also not unusual to find out that customers are interested in buying .22lr in bulk from us then marking it up re-selling it. When you see me green-texting stories in which I tell customers we're all out of .22lr, please keep in mind that we probably just sold out of our ration for the day. We restock the shelves once, or twice per day when we have it, in order to try and spread the love around. I don't hold out on customers just to be a dick. Our store is the best in our area for stocking .22lr and our customers know it, they also understand why we set limits on this ammunition. We have many regulars come in or call to check on our stock.

What unorthodox/improvised weapons would you use against riot police, either from the street if you were foolish enough to be there or from the rooftops/apartment windows.
Assume you are not using firearms for whatever reason and no store bought blackpowder ect.

Beyond your average molotov cocktail I'd say 1-1.5L plastic bottles with dry ice and water would cause a great deal of damage and confusion. That and no one would want to touch them once they've been thrown, try to kick it away and suddenly you can't hear and have a sprained ankle.

WW1 melee weapons thread?

Can we discuss the weapons we know were used in close quarters in the great war?

>During trench raids, soldiers were typically allowed to pick their weapons.
>Shotguns were popular choices, if available, as well as grenades and handguns (often privately purchased or looted, as well.) , then came the sturdy, silent melee weapons.

I've read records (though who knows where.) of soldiers using
>Bayonets, improvised spears, butcher knives, hooked knives (Anyone know what these could be? Pruning knives, perhaps? I can't imagine kerambits were popular yet.), swords, hunting knives, canes, entrenching tools, thick sticks, clubs, baseball bats, billy clubs, sand bags(!!) , axes, hatchets, pick axes, rocks, brass, lead, steel, aluminum, and wooden knuckles, machetes, and just about anything else.

Where can I read more about this? What books should I read? Any good movies? I'm especially interested in the trench raiding aspects.

If you ever come to London I recommend you to visit the Imperial War Museum. They have a fuckhuge WW1 section, and a cabinet with a bunch of trench raid weapons, shit was fucking medieval. They also have like a 40ft WW1 trench, really cool.
>>
>>23645429
You would totally need that shit too because either you were raiding at night and wanted to be quiet or you were stuck using a manual action gun that was usually way too long (1903 and SMLE are about 44 inches, American Enfield is like 46 inches, G98 is 49 inches, and Lebel is 51 inches) If you were unlucky enough to get a lebel or lucky enough to get a shotgun you can't reload quickly, especially for the level which would become a single shot really fast.
