Shotguns for winter Temperature use / security job.
I picked up a small security job up in Alaska at an oil pumping station and they prefer their guards have a decent shotgun for the various wildlife encounters handy. Never owned a shotgun in my life so this will be a first. (Bolt action owner)
Signing I got about $600 to use for any hottie of my pick. what's a good idea to start looking at?
General shotgun thread.
Obviously 12 gauge
The typical answer lately is either mossberg 500 or the remington 870
be advised: remington quality has been going down lately

I guess one consideration is if your finger fits in the trigger guard with gloves on
Alaska be colder than my ex gfs heart
>>27936442
I picked up a Mossberg 500 tactical 8 shot for a few hundred.
The thing kicks ass, never had a problem.
Tons of after parts for it, and it's a great 12g when dropped down with the pistol grip.
Grab yourself one of those
I've been looking into niche shotguns trying to piss off the local fudd gun club members (they complained my friend's shotgun with a 18.5" barrel was "too loud"), and came across the mossberg 395kb (pictured).
It's a smooth bore bolt action with a a detachable magazine, which made me curious: why aren't they more popular? A 395kb is averaging less than $200, and given that bolt actions can be less mechanically complex [cheaper to make] than any other entry level shotgun, and therefore are cheap enough to make a decent my-first-gun, why aren't there any major manufacturers today for one with a barrel designed to shoot buckshot or birdshot?
Probably because most people associate pump actions with shotguns. Bolt actions shotguns might be popular in Australia.

Market demand isn't there
>>27936314
They're kinda slow to use. They're ok though, a pump is better. If you just want something different then it's a fine cheap gun.
>>27936334
They're not really. People either buy double/triple barrels or lever-actions. I've seen one or two people hunt pigs with bolt action shotguns but they're by no means popular.
I've never been to a gunsmith, but am thinking of getting some work done. How do they usually charge? Mine has a per hour shop fee along with the services seeked. Is this normal?
>mfw it may cost several hundred dollars for a basic tune up
>pic not related
>>27936299
Most charge an hourly fee with a baseline price as well
>>27936299
Set prices for common services
Hourly for the more off the wall work.
>>27936347
>Set prices for common services
That's what I thought too, he has an hourly rate, but along with a rate for feed ramp polishing, trigger job etc.
Why arent flight suits just standard issue for infantry?
Seems like it would effectively cover you and snag less on gear or environment
Besides the difficulty taking a shit what are the down sides that Im missing
>not shitting completely naked
>>27936177
sizing issues is most likely the main reason.
But really it because it would be awkward to take a poop
>>27936190
like i said, shit completely nude
>can't poop
what if there was an ass flap or the bottom half were assless chaps?
So /k/, I'm turning 21 soon and that means I'll be able to legally purchase a handgun and conceal carry in my state.
What handgun would you recommend? I'd want something that's easy to shoot, reliable and would take someone down who was coming at me relatively fast. It'll probably sit in my closet 99% of the time unless I practice shooting it, but I feel like it's a useful thing to have and know how to use.
most handguns fit what you're looking for here. What's important is to get out there and actually shoot a few handguns, pick the one that feels best, the one you are most accurate with, something intuitive, with which you can draw and shoot quickly and effectively. Everyone is different. That said I'm a lefty and I CC a full size Remington 1911R1
>>27936194
I planned on shooting a few, shitloads of gunshops with ranges with me. I was just wondering if anyone had any preferences when it comes to them.
Should I buy a higher caliber than 9mm? Or can that take down someone pretty fast? I've seen videos of people taking them like they aren't shit and if some crazy mother fucker is trying to kill me I don't want to have to worry about that.
>>27936206
I've first gotta ask m/f? how tall? how much do you weigh? Are you an experienced shooter? This will all help me make a more educated recommendation
Hey /k/, what's your opinion of this? Fiddled with it in the store today, seems pretty good. Was considering the Walther PPQ M2 but they only had it in .45 or .40(?). Not a bad price ($700), and looks good.
Any issues or complaints?
My dad picked one up about a month ago. If you look around you can find em for about $625, and that's with 3 mags, which cost $50 separately. We've put over 1000 rounds through it and not one malfunction. I haven't shot a whole lot of striker-fired guns, but the VP9 has, bar-none, the best trigger I've shot yet. In addition, fully customizable handgrip. Its really comfy.
Monitoring
I'm between this and sig p320
I like it more than most strikers. 700? What kind of jew shop sells a vp9 for 700..... I have seen LE versions (night sights + extra mag) go for 700....
I really like the paddle mag release, and the PPQ and VP9 are so similar that's why I prefer the VP9 over it.
other than that....... same gun pretty much
I would not get anything in 40 or 45 that is striker but obv that's my own opinion and if you like those I really enjoyed shooting the PPQ (just the vp9 more)
>completely new rifle comes onto the market
>CAN ACCEPT X FROM THE AR15
Do you want everything to use some kind of proprietary mags instead of a cheap and plentiful magazines?

Enjoy your autism you fucking faggot

>gold standard for modularity and ease of replacement/customization
HURR GUYS WHY ARE THEY ALL TRYING TO DO THIS
Why do people hate hi point firearms? Are they low quality or something else I'm not getting here?
>>27935830
They're unergonomic as fuck and have a reputation for being used as cheap beater guns by gang members to commit murders.
In other words, they're generally not guns that shooting enthusiasts would buy for anything but pure novelty.
>>27935830
I'll take the bait.
Basically the only reason to ever purchase a hipoint is if you literally can't afford anything else, and absolutely need a gun as soon as possible. If you're not in dire need of a gun, save up an extra one or two hundred dollars and buy something actually worth owning.
>clunky
>heavy
>ugly
Most people hate then because they're not used by devgru and mall ninjas can't accessorize them with lasers and custom red dot sights.
hey /k/ check it out, i received this pistol as an early christmas gift from my dad since i've been working at a gun range for the last week and a half. i was wondering your opinion on it, i ran 200 rounds through it today of some 9mm 124 grain rounds from freedom munitions and although i had constant stovepipe malfunctions for the first couple rounds i shot, after i oiled and cleaned the gun after it had not been shot for atleast a year and a half i had no problems for the rest of the ammunition. It's a pretty big gun and it's rather heavy but it fits well in my hand and i like the sloshy feeling recoil the heavy slide produces. unfortunately one of the bolster pins is missing and i have to have it replaced. :(
I'm a bit out of practice.
COM group was done with a range rental Beretta 92 whose trigger kept failing to reset on the first try in SA. It also hit me in the face with ejected brass three times in 50 rounds.
Head shots were done with a Gen 4 Glock 17.
50 rounds in each group, both done very fast--well, as fast as they'd let me shoot at this indoor range, 2-3 rounds per second--at 21 feet, 7 yards.
I try to stage the Beretta's DA trigger, and try to hold it so that as the trigger pivots back in DA, my right index fingertip will touch the left side of the frame behind the trigger just before it fires. The Beretta's frame is just too fat, the factory grips are just too thick, for me to do it consistently, but maybe if I owned one and practiced with it I could do better. There are people who can pull a 12+ pound DA trigger straight through without the front sight coming off target, but I'm not one of them.
Anyway. Who else has been to the range?
I was shooting better than ever before yesterday. 3-4 inch groups at 7 yards with my Glock 19. largest group was 5.5 when I was doing rapid fire. I usually shoot 5-7 inches.
>haven't had a chance to go in over a month
Feels pretty bad man. Thank fuck I have some days off coming up. Gonna go try out my new steel sillouette up against some real fuckin NATO.
Decent group by the way senpai
>>27935401
That's not bad at all. Keep practicing.
Some people say that knowing how to "run" a DA/SA pistol, how to stage a DA trigger, how to "run" a revolver, are obsolete skills. I am personally of the opinion that these weapons are still so common that it's appropriate to know how to use them, even if my preferences run to single-action-only or striker-fired semiautos.

My keys have a small light and phone (iPhone 5). I'm rarely out after dark anyway.
>>27935273
does mummy get worried?
My Local Gun Store has started stocking Aliengear IWB holsters. I haven't asked him about it. So I don't know if he is reselling individually or bundling them with pistol sales.
>>27935179
Bought one for my P226 as a lefty.
It works, It's the Gen 2 leather/kydex and it's pretty comfy to carry appendix or 7 o'clock, but my belt at the time sucked ass and was worn out.
>>27935179
They make good gaming lap tops too
>>27935179
I've noticed alot of /k/ommandos have them lately atr they any good?
>Fallout 4 has a radioactive baseball bat
so, if the user gave zero fucks, how effective would a fuel rod be as a blunt weapon?

your post literally gave everyone involved cancer.
Fuck off Todd
The whole point of using a weapon is survival and murder. That stick is murdering your chances of survival
Are there any Japanese gun owners on /k/?
If so, could you brief me about Japanese gun laws, I want to know if there's such thing as a permit to own a handgun?.
>>27935143
No guns.
No weapons.
No nothing.
Dishonorru.
>>27935143
No guns at all allowed in civilian hands. Thats why they're way into Airsoft over there.
Civilian ownership of firearms is restricted to shotguns either naturally or permanently modified so they can only fire a maximum of 2 shells. Self-loading shotguns are illegal.
It is illegal for a civilian to own a handgun or rifle of any kind. It is illegal for a civilian to own a self-loading shotgun.
All shooting must be done on an actual, administered range. Hunting is illegal for the majority of the populace (certain remote villages in the north get special dispensation to hunt but must still abide the firearms ownership laws, certification is convoluted but not terribly time consuming).
What do you think of FPSrussia new video.
