Do humans have the capability of destroying the moon?
>>28049258
Yes
>>28049258
I hope not, I'm going there pretty soon here all things considered.
>>28049258
If by destroying, you mean to completely vaporize, then no. We could probably break of large chunks little by little.
...But why?
How effective are modern anti-missile defenses?
Because they seem to be pretty effective looking at their tests. To the point you would need to swarm enemy ships with missiles to hit.
>>28048999
>How effective are modern anti-missile defenses?
Most threat profiles are handled pretty well, both ballistic and aerodynamic, both subsonic and supersonic.
Subsonic saturation attacks (unless completely overwhelming) have also been something that can now be handled as most modern radars have moved to active phased arrays (APAR, Poliment, AMDR) and can handle more uplinks.
The type of threat that we have very little experience with is something called "Threat D", a subsonic target that suddenly becomes supersonic. USN and other Western navies do not currently have a target drone to simulate that sort of threat profile and it their sensors are currently not optimized for it.
Other than that, air defenses have seen a huge upswing in potential in the last 15 years. And while offense has also improved, it's not so dire as it was in the 70's.
So far it seems like they're better at blue-on-blue than doing their actual job.
Just sayin'.

Yeah, man. Nothing changed in 30 years.
Farbeit from me to be pedantic, but am I the only one who hates hearing the new buzzword "active shooter"? What exactly is an INactive shooter? This new word is as vague as it is redundant. Since every shooter is, by definition, active, the word can tell us nothing important about the shooter.
how about you fuck off
>>28048842
Why do you respond to an active shooter? Why cant you just ignore him or tell him your busy?
>active shooter
>new word
"Active shooter" is a term that cops have been using for a long time to refer to someone who is (wait for it) currently shooting some place up.
If there were no other choice, what kind of icebreaking capabilities would an aircraft carrier have? Would it be able to punch through some ice shelves, or would its hull just get torn to shreds on the first pass?
>>28048812
it cant punch through it doesnt even have hands
Dude no you can't do that, don't you know that's how you wake up Gamera?

What gun are you currently waiting to get licensed /k/angaroos?

Marlin 22 and a Weatherby Vanguard in .223
Currently looking to either buy or rent a different property. Current landlord doesn't want a safe bolted into 2 immovable surfaces - and there's no where I know of in WA that let's you store your funs.
Looking at an Enfield, full stock if I can find one for reasonable. I'll settle for a sporterised at this point though.
What state you in?
What gun are you currently waiting to get licensed /k/angaroos?
>Just picked up my Mauser K98 today
What have you shot recently?
>Took all the guns down to a friends place who just finished his high school certificate, Mag dumped (as well as you can) with a Nugget, .22, air gun and Double barrel shotgun
Have you got an adler yet?
No I keep spending my money on milsurp guns
>>28048740
WA also mate, where'd you buy the Vanguard and are they still on discount?
Anybody on /k/ know where to get a hold of black powder caps, either #11 or #10, and either genuine black powder or substitute (it really doesn't matter) in the southern california area? Apparently it's next to impossible to find, I haven't tried contacting any small gun stores yet to see if they might have it, but any major retailer doesn't carry the primers.
Bass Pro Shop has 209 Primers, but that's as close as it gets. I'd much rather just buy enough for 100 rounds at a time than have to order the 1000 from cabelas and pay a $20 shipping fee. It's looking like I might have to go that route though simply out of convenience.
>>28048585
Fuck it I just did it. Fair warning to any other californianons that decide to get a black powder revolver. Any experienced bp shooters know how long these caps will last stored properly?
I got a couple hundred extra rounds and some pyrodex as well so I'll get to have a nice long rage day whenever these come in, but I really have no idea how long it will take me to go through 1000 caps.
Apparently there are some places to get genuine black powder out in LA, but fuck going out there. I'll pay a $20 hazmat fee over $30 in gas and being stuck in traffic any day.
>>28048783
>genuine black powder
why?
I have some caps that are about 35 years old, and are still good. They aren't even CCI- they're CVA.
Try Calguns. California has 20% of all the shooters in the US.
What should I look into if I'm looking for a gun to defend my home and family?
>>28048498
That it is functional.
>>28048498
How's your house laid out?
Im in an apartment with a spiral staircase to the master bedroom. Going down stairs with long gun is a no go. Also I'm a huge taget coming down.

You should be able to manipulate the weapon, including firig with one hand. Might have to push family members behind you.
>>28048536
>firing with one hand
This is so often overlooked as people choose scattergats for home defense. The ability to cover someone with a gun while calling for help is invaluable. Consider that speakerphone may be difficult to use after shooting inside without hearing protection.
how to defeat this plastic enforcer?
water gun

I read that soldiers in general are much more accurate today than in the past because of improved training methods. Is this true?
Is Yahoo! broken?
>>28048360
I've read that soldiers sometimes didn't even get to train with 30. caliber rifles in WW1, instead using .22 trainers. If this is true, absolutely.
>>28048395
Yep. .22 training Springfields and Enfields are most definitely a thing.
is it for /k/atana or some shit?
Because /w/ was already something else.

Hi /k/
I am from the Netherlands, a country with some of the toughest gun control laws.
I can remember a while ago that a guy found a mint condition MP-40 in his basement. He reported it to the police and the police took it and destroyed it.
I can't own a gun unless I give a valid reason to the police (Like, for hunting.)
Tons of background checks, safety standards , police controls every year and regulations.
All I want is a nice battle rifle from ww2 but I can't.
it sucks.
>>28048319
Join the "No fun allowed" pool with the other Yuropoors. Or move here to the US.
>>28048319
>guy found a mint condition MP-40 in his basement. He reported it to the police and the police took it and destroyed it.
Find him and egg his house and beat the shit out of him please.
>>28048491
I don't understand this. There should be a service dedicated to preserving historical firearms.
>if you didn't spend as much on the glass as you did the rifle, you're doing it wrong
This is becoming less and less true with quality imported glass from Japan. Vortex has really started a trend in quality optics.
>>28048099
With automated rifle manufacturing offering guns FAR more accurate than anything in the past, for lower prices
COMBINED
with the advent of better glass manufacturing tech overseas, and optics with much better features (FFP etched reticles, repeatable adjustments, large tubes, etc.) being available and affordable, we are in a golden age of long range shooting for the average consumer.

ended up getting a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 for my elcan with a trade. sure its in MOA but I can deal with that.

hey /k, my dads buddy emptied some crap out of his garage and gave me a bunch of his old reloading stuff, he says he doesnt have the time to do it anymore. it looks like a bunch of bullets, some shells, a press? and some black powder. all i have to do is fill up the case and use the press to put a bullet in, right? pic related is the kind of press he gave me
Lucky bastard
Look up some how to videos on youtube and get at least one reloading handbook (Like this one http://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Handbook-Cartridge-Reloading-Emery-ebook/dp/B00HZUXWNA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1448947918&sr=8-6&keywords=handloading) before you blow yourself up anon

Who is more effective in combat, women or midgets? Would an army of women be able to defeat an army of midgets?
>>28048092
Nothing can defeat an army of midgets, except for a larger army of smaller midgets.
careful, if you lose a battle to a midget you become one.

These are the questions science needs to answer
Hey /k/,
I understand a general rule of thumb is to focus on the front sight.
After my last range trip I realized I focused on the target but next time I'm at the range I'll focus on the front sight and see if there is an improvement in my groups.
What does /k/ do?
Personally, I'm not sure how focusing on the front sight increases accuracy because the target becomes blurry. Please enlighten me.
>TL;DR Do you like to focus on the front sight or the target when shooting?
P.S. Pic and link related. Focus of the front sight can be found under "Aiming."
http://www.armystudyguide.com/content/army_board_study_guide_topics/m16a2/four-fundamentals-of-mark.shtml
Front sight focus is everything if you want to shoot fast and accurate.
Do some dry firing a couple of times a week.
The front sight is the important part. That's the part you're lining up with the back sight, and the part you're lining up on the target.
You won't hit anything if your sights aren't aligned and focused right.
You should focus entirely on the front sight, and observe it with the perfect presence of an uncluttered mind as you press the trigger.
You should see your sight lift the moment your handgun fires, and ideally you should see it track all the way up and then back down into the rear sight notch.
This is for slowfire accuracy. There are degrees of sight focus and acceptability when speed is involved as you gain experience, but you should investigate your front sight thoroughly before tackling anything else.
