Hey /k/
I want to get a job and get ahold of some funs by taking courses and stuff.
Any idea what my first fun should be? I was thinking about getting a handgun and then a rifle. I live in Commiefornia so I'll need advice that pertains to that state.

Also, first time shooting tips would be appreciated too. I know you're not supposed to hold your breath like in Cawadooty and you're supposed to steady your breathing and exhale as you shoot.

Thank you /k/omrades

I think a gun first-timer should probably start off with a rifle, they are significantly easier to get a feel for. And I know this may sound retarded to you, but maybe get a .22 so you can start off not having to worry so much about the kickback.

So you want to be a mercenary.

I've heard lots of advice saying that .22's are the way to go for plinking and first time shooting.
I assumed that handguns would be easiest to learn first, but I'm no professional.

If anything though, I'd like to get a feel for both at the beginning.

Most likely Intel or Support.

How much .22 is too much .22?

Is it ideal to stockpile, for future/shtf/scare scenarios?

I have a 50cal and a 30cal can full of .22 like in OPs pic. I still buy it at a reasonable price when I see it. I don't see a "too much ammo" limit.

is it safe to store rimfire cartridges like this?
>>
>>28063951
22lr is about the last thing I'd ever stockpile 10's of thousands of rounds with intentions of shooting it a decade or two later.
Keep ahead on the numbers enough to ride out an ammo panic, sure, but that's about it. I wouldn't go an inch beyond that with rimfire crap primers and poorly sealed cartridges.
Centerfire ammo on the other hand, I'd trust that a lot more. And plenty of that comes in spam cans or is sealed at the primer/bullet anyway vs any outside air.

Because hunting would be an important source of food in a hypothetical SHTF scenario, a SHTF rifle should be accurate and powerful enough to hunt and fight with. That rules out many "black guns"--.223 may lack the power for large game, especially at long distances--and assault rifles, which are not very accurate, but it includes almost any good hunting rifle. Those worried about capacity can buy aftermarket extended magazines.

>.223 can't kill large game
>"assault rifles" aren't accurate

Go back to /b/, nigger. Hogs and deer are easily taken with .223.

Hey. I'm also posting this in /tg and /sci.
I'm working on a crafting system for a tabletop rpg akin to the Witcher. I'd like to keep as scientifically accurate as possible but when it came time to start figuring out explosives I hit a roadblock.
I was wondering if anyone could explain explosives like frag grenades, c4, explosive gels (like batman's in the arkham games) in a simple way for someone who took highschool science about a half a decade ago.
The key things I'm looking to are:
chemical/catalyst + catalyst/chemical = how much explosive force
Sorry for my lack of understanding, but that's why I'm here. To learn.

In your opinion what is the best SKS variant?

Never owned one, there is a great deal near me on a yugo SKS, never issued, comes with lots of extras for $400

I've heard the yugo ones are pretty low on the SKS totem pole. Is that because of how common they are or are they just shitty?

>>
>>28063771
they're not as desirable as russian ones in terms of collecting. otherwise the yugos are good to go as far as i know
>>
I'm not an expert but the main reason Yugo's aren't as popular is because they don't have chrome lined bores. Only a problem if you're shooting a lot of corrosive ammo.

God I hope your recruiter didn't lie to you.
You will sit in a TOC reading debriefs and countless documents, look through hundreds of pictures and decide what is useful and what is trash.
You might get to actually talk with people on occasion to get some intel yourself, but it is seldom.
Then you will tell a shitload of officers what you think of the intel you looked at. Have fun.

Why is the SKS considered the best shtf rifle?
158 posts and 26 images submitted.

durability
simplicity
accuracy
readily available ammunition

low capacity is a major negative aspect though
>>
Relatively cheap semi auto. They were cheaper a few years ago which made them the ideal shtf rifle to stock up on. They are reliable, shoot a common cartridge and will take a beating. The prices keep going up on them so the grab sks go innawoods meme is becoming no longer relavent.

>>28062865
also ammo in stripper clips is lighter and takes less space than in magazines

I'm thinking about getting a Ruger Single Ten revolver. Should I? Anyone have any experience with these things? I'm worried these might be fragile considering it's 10 shots instead of 6. I've handled one before, and when I pulled the hammer back it sounds like 5 different clicks going on in the internals, and I'm just worried it might not be a long lasting weapon. What do you guys think?

There are some good deals to be had. Usually right when it opens and just before it closes.

If a firearm is well priced, don't expect it to still be there after checking out the other tables. But if you buy the first find, then you might not have enough for another gem later on.
