I've always wondered about this, /k/, and have heard plenty of conflicting arguments from both sides.

Is there really a point to having lasers on firearms?

If you really aren't supposed to shoot without first acquiring a sight picture then what use is a laser? Why have governments put so much money into developing laser systems for military small arms use?

People say it aids in sight acquisition but I can only see it becoming a distraction. The effort it takes to track a shiny dot jumping all over the target plane compounded with the fact you SHOULD be able to acquire a sight picture with your eyes closed just makes them seem a bit pointless to me.

So what purpose do they serve? Just some auxiliary function as a pointer, or something more?

Lasers are for when you can't get a sight picture, like extremely low light or wearing NVGs
>>
>>28280650

What if you have some NVG-compatible optic and an IR illuminator?
>>
>>28280650
This, lasers are not a replacement to sights, they are for specific situations for when you can't use your sights. Along with these, they are also used for wearing gas masks (since you can't get a cheek weld) and when shooting a pistol around ballistic shields.

Dearest /k/ what do you think of pic related? I am almost sure come tax time I want to pic one up. Any thoughts?

No 90-degree gas block is a little offputting. Has anyone had any issues with that?

Could these theoretically help you control the recoil of a gun better by building hand and forearm strength? Been also thinking of using em as a pre shooting warm up.

Work on your stance and grip position. You shouldn't need to increase grip strength

My sisters got attacked by a black guy in broad daylight a mere few hundred feet away from a police station while I was away. Luckily they are okay except for a small nick across one's face, but they have gone from being anti-gun to completely, 100% pro-gun and want to learn how to get one/how to shoot one.

What is the best way to teach them about guns and responsible gun ownership? Should we go to an instructor and a firing range?

just tell them, hey next time you get attacked instead of a couple of nicks and some damaged pride, you can straight up smoke a mother-fucker. they will take it from there.

Take them to the Gun range, ask the RO if he has any info on gun safety courses. Or just teach them yourself, by taking them to the range and shooting a bunch, go through trigger discipline, Never point your barrel at anything you don't want to destroy, etc.

Girlfriend is turning 21 and wants to get her CCW. Trying to help her find a carry piece, but I'm not sure what to get here. She's 5'6" maybe 120 lbs, not much upper body strength and she has trouble cocking my P226. I let her shoot a glock 17 once and she limp wristed so badly she almost dropped it. Since she can't handle recoil like at all and she lacks arm strength I was thinking a .38 revolver, but I'm not really sure which ones or if there is something better.
Care to help me out /k/?

My point is that you teach her to handle 9mm/shoot properly first before you rush out and buy something to CC. Rent a 92FS and have her train on that before anything. If she still can't handle the recoil or can't grasp a gun properly, dump her or get some S&W 5 shot .38 Special.

Have been hardening my body for three years.
Shot with hundreds of rounds of non-lethal stuff like 22LR and 38’s.
Looking forward to moving up to a bigger non-lethal round like 223 from AR15.
Son killed ¼ inch steel plate squirrel with 223 as a test. (Pics related)
It seems like the arc of this training has left my body much weaker than where I started.
Many of the wounds have not healed right.
And I am fighting a lot of fear.
And my daughter doesn’t want to help me anymore and she is the best shot I know.
Note the size of the holes have a larger diameter than the bullets that hit them.
Exit looks just like entry. These were cheap “plinking” rounds.
My AK friends assured me, this was a non-lethal round.
It looks pretty fucking lethal to me.
/K/, I have always trusted you because you don’t lie, on the internet. Please Advise.

Questions.

Why is the hole in steal so much bigger than the lead bullet?

Why does exit look like entry?

How did all you guys get through training, how did you overcome the fear?

Anyone else /lansky/ here? How does /k/ sharpen their knives?
36 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
I straighten my pocket knives on a hone for a couple passes once a week and that keeps them sharp enough for me. If I used one pretty heavily or dented the edge on something hard I hit it with a finish file, then hone it quite a bit longer because I'm too lazy to get out the wet stone. I do my chisels on a wet stone, hone, then strop them. Axes and everything else just get filed.
>>
>>28279875
I've used one before.
It's nice for pretty much everything, and it's idiot proof.
I like it, and I would buy one if I needed to sharpen knives often.
>>

So, we see the new blaster the First Order troops were issued, which is a direct evolution of the E-11. But you can still see the folding stock on the barrel shroud there, as well as a rifle butt.

So what the hell is the folding stock there for?

They also changed the mag/battery pack thing to the right side. I'm guessing the prop guys had no clue what an underfolding stock was.

Yeah, I'm liking it. The way they used small-unit tactics and were actually fucking competent in the movie was great, too.

Would it be better to buy a lower parts kit and assembly it myself and buy a complete upper?
27 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
I've actually been looking for a good 80% lower receiver. Any suggestions?
>>
Build or youre a huge faggot.

You can build a decent AR for $600.

Or you can spend $800 on a S&W MP and have a shit AR that has no individuality to it at all.

If you don't have the ability to mill, just go to your LGS and see if they have any 100% lowers. Or look online, aero precision and PSA have some decent ones.

As far as uppers, you wont save too much money building the entire upper yourself, so just buy a complete upper or one without the BCG and charging handle, and then buy those separately.

Do any of you know of any good instructors that teach self defense for people in wheelchairs? I recently started dating a paraplegic woman and want to teach her self defense but I have no practical knowledge around wheelchairs so I will refrain from teaching her anything beyond standard safe handling procedures for firearms.
I'm also hoping to learn with her so I can learn to work with someone in a wheelchair in a oh fuck situation.
Thanks in advance /k/

You could conceal all kinds of shit in a wheelchair. Personally, I'd go for a pistol grip shotgun, an SBS, or a full sized handgun. Rolling those wheels builds strong hands and wrists. She could handle the recoil.

Plus, a larger gun with more recoil doubles as an escape mechanism. Even if you don't put your attacker down on the first shot, the recoil will send the chair zooming backwards like some sort of horrible, horrible escape pod.
