So, Glocks are the boring, correct choice for a handgun, but I'm a special snowflake that wants a gun with things like an actual safety and a non-brick slide.

What are some good options for EDC that aren't everyone else's Glock?

Have you tried using google? I mean seriously anon. There are eighty bazillion subcompacts/compacts available. Do you just want us to list them?

Are you fucking disabled? There is hundreds (even thousands) of perfectly functional handguns that you can view and read about via simple Google search. At least give some preferences other than having a safety so we can try and help you.

All right /k/ got a challenge for you.
I'm sure most of you could come up with a list of top of the line equipment that would make any military force into high tech killers. What I would like to see is if you can do it on a budget. Try to cover the basics(land, air, maritime) as cheaply and effectively as possible.

- require all citizens to have a hardened panic room/shelter in their homes/apartments
- require all citizens to be armed with the same shitty SMGs
- require all citizens to know how to operate antitank launchers and manpads
- require all citizens to have a victory garden
- require all citizens to have three kids per family
- bonus: citizens receive a double ice cream ration if they undergo frogmen training

Noncompliant citizens are taken to a labor camp where they build big stronk howitzers and jeeps for the army.

The remaining 95% of the money is then spent on nuclear reactors, nuclear bombs, missiles and submarines. Nobody is going to attack an SLBM armed country, see Israel as an example of this. Aircraft are deliberately ignored because they cost fucktons of money but aren't stealthy like submarines are. In the event of a landlocked country, acquire a shoreline using your armed citizenry.

Ok /k/ give it to me straight, how far would a bolt from a star wars blaster theoretically travel before disappearing or losing enough potency to just become light?

Like if someone was standing on Hoth and shot up into the sky, how far would the bolt go? What about when shot in space?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Assuming that the Blaster is a laser gun, it would depend on the power (KiloWatts), on the beam profile, and on the divergence.

Real life lasers, which are pretty weak, can already be reflected on mirrors set up the moon. They are pretty much only limited by the clouds. I suppose a powerful laser would easily have an interplanetary range, at least visually.

As for the effect on target : beam divergence is a very big problem in atmospheric conditions and I don't think a laser could possibly hit another planet from the ground. Even a spaceborne laser would have to pierce through at least one atmospheric layer.

That's more a question for /sci/.

If the blast is a magneticly confined hunk of plasma the projectile will degrade and move chaotically over time until it fails in some way. Could be it fizzles, possibly expands diffusely or a rupture where it goes pop, or a mix of all three.

This Jericho 941 is, as of this morning, a recent acquisition. It's a 941F converted to SAO for use by the police force. Also known as the 941PS (Police Special). Picked it up for $425.

Jerichos are great guns but the rails and slide mounted safety makes them kinda autistic. Luckily this one does away with both of those, and in SAO as a range gun (or OC if I move out of Florida) what's not to love?

I was the guy posting about the compact Jericho a few days ago. Glad you guys convinced me to go full size or go home.

I could really benefit from a good night vision or IR system. I have been looking at some Gen 3 night vision rifle scopes for one of my AR builds. more specifically with a DBAL.

But, it seems like IR has a few advantages. It's more reistant to weather conditions specifically. I think the DBAL specifically has an IR illumination too, so it would work well with that as well.

I would like to hear feed back on both, if someone or a few people have used these, private or military. The costs of them don't seem TOO crazy. The quality has seem to gotten better, and the prices have come down pretty significantly over the last few years.

But there's no real reason to do it except if you just like bullpup stuff. Rifle is fine.

>i specifically want a cheap ar10
they're like $600 if you get a shitty one dude, you can build a half-decent one for under $1000, optics excluded
>>
>>34701199

It is possible to build an AR style rifle in .308 for under 1000 dollars. It will not be the world's worst .308 rifle. But it will not be particularly good. You're probably looking at PSA parts, mostly, so on an all PSA gun you're going to wind up around 3-4 MOA if you do it right. Much, much more if it's your first time and you buy the cheapest parts you can. It's possible, but you'll end up with a gun you'll want to upgrade over time, which will be a lot more money.

If you want a good AR-10 right away, save money and get one in a few months. If you want one now, and are okay with making it your project/Barbie gun, that's fine too. Just don't ever look at the total you've spent.

Aside from a dubious wikipedia article, no useful information exists on the "plasma railgun". Searching that phrase only gets me something from some video game. The concept is quite clear though: It's a railgun, but instead of a metal armature and projectile, it accelerates plasma. There are a few things I want to know: What happens to the plasma when it comes out of the barrel? Does it just spray everywhere, travel in a pulsed ball or a beam, or some kind of cone? Moreover, why do no civilian hobbyists who build railguns/coilguns whatever ever build anything like this?

I built one yesterday. Want to buy it?
>>
>>34701149
A plasma railgun is hard to build because you need a secondary source to generate and inject the plasma before firing the railgun.

>What happens to the plasma when it comes out of the barrel?
It quickly disperses. Some containment methods have been attempted, but they're not effective enough to make a practical weapon.

>Moreover, why do no civilian hobbyists who build railguns/coilguns whatever ever build anything like this?
Plasma quickly destroys any material. Its way too expensive for something that only makes a tiny fireball.

Here's a picture I found a week or so ago. All the examples I've read about seem to say the plasma comes out like a toroid. This makes the picture seem at least a plausible design.

Well if you already have one what the fuck do you care what the market price is? The PM is the best pump shotgun ever made, and you shouldn't even think of letting it go. You'll wake up one day and understand that even if you find a shotgun that's "just as good", reasonable quality and functions OK, and might even have a slightly nicer finish, there's still a missing piece in your collection that the new one won't really fill, because nothing ever will now that it's gone, and all the little details like the ergonomics are ever so slightly off and they just keep triggering the old muscle memory, and you realize all those past experiences you had with it were thrown away with it too, and what a mistake you made, because of how much of yourself is still intrinsically linked with it, and how all the stupid trivial bullshit issues you thought were insurmountable really could have been worked out if you'd just pulled your head out of your ass for one second, and it finally hits you that she's not coming back
