What's the deal with this rifle?
Why is it so often ignored?
>>28866397
Can't really get it in the states.
>>28866403
But it is it any good?
I heard that it breaks down into pieces whole being used.
>>28866397
they are few and far between
Is artillery even still relevant in this day and age? I'd imagine the nature of asymmetrical warfare makes the King of Battle basically obsolete.
Go away
>>28866364
Why?
I'm genuinely curious. I wish to know what place it has now. If it's still relevant, or if we're just keeping it going in case of more conventional conflicts.
howitzers like in your picture are not relevant outside of providing welfare work
Looking to get a 308 semi auto rifle. Budget is $2000 What does /k/ recommend?
save a bit more cash and get a scar 17
>>28866020
I have the cash but I don't want to spend that much.
>>28866011
>$2,000
Colt 901 would be my only real suggestion at that price point, and it's a pretty good one actually.
DPMS is not good despite what the poorfags/fudds will tell you, and the "bild it yerself" route will come out around the same.
Colt has really stepped their game up recently as well and with 5.56 conversions available and eventual 7.62x39 conversions, there's also that to consider if it interests you.
I am Australian. I have never seen a gun in my life. Ask me anything.

I have an old surplus mosin nagant rifle that was made in the United States which was sent over to Russia somewhere before or during world war one and somewhere down the line it got in the hands of a Finland soldier and has a Finland stamp mark on it and as well been used during world war two and the winter war and somehow made it back over here which I got it for just $100 dollars.
I have a large stack of spam cans with surplus ammo and I'm planning on getting the rifle hard chrimed so that way I wouldn't have to worry about corrosion from surplus ammo.
How much would it cost to get the barrel completely hard chromed and as well the inside chamber, inner box mag and the bolt?
Sounds like a good idea to me really.
>>28865413
>How much would it cost to get the barrel completely hard chromed and as well the inside chamber, inner box mag and the bolt?
Seriously, contact a local gunsmith.
>>28865413
You looking to sell any of those spam cans?

Why do we not still use 30-06 from a military standpoint? the recoil is manageable, and it can send a 220 grain round at 2,602 fps, on the highest end. knowing the military it would probably settle around 2300, but I digress.
the round has that nice tail on the end of the bullet so it flies straighter than other rounds. it's much bigger than .308 and has much more potential power, why don't we use it? it's not like it's hard to make or in short supply.
pic related shows size difference, .308 is on top
556 is cheaper
>Wanting to lug around a 25 lb. service rifle
Have fun with that
>>28863642
5.56 isn't the alternative to 30-06, faggot.
>>28863619
.308 works just fine.
Out of curiosity, would a plasma gun actually be a feasible thing in real life?
These things show up all the time in the sci-fi genre, generally as some powerful weapons, but there doesn't seem to be much merit to the idea. Now I ain't a physicist or whatever, but basically shooting ball lightning at people sounds like it would be really shitty in small arms technology.
>>28863114
Project MARAUDER proved that plasma weapons work back in the 1990s. Who knows what happened to it after it was officially cancelled.
>>28863294
Absolute madmen!
I've been fascinated by plasma weaponry ever since "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter".
Would there be a greater hell than being on the Bismarck in the last battle?
Being on the HMS Hood in Bismarck's first battle.
>>28863112
Nah, that was a fast death.
The Bismarck was slowly shelled and burned to death. It was hit by hundreds of shells for hours and there was nowhere to go for protection.
If you read the few survivor accounts, it sounds like hell on earth.
The Hood would obviously suck but it was over in an instant.

Hey /k/ i unearthed a tattered vanilla envelope today with a bunch of pictures issued to my grandfather when he was in WW2. He was an anti aircraft gunner, where abouts i do not know, and these were the planes he was instructed not to shoot down. I thought they were pretty cool so i scanned them so i could share them with you.

Anyone have a Smersh Rig? How comfy is it, Can it hold other mags besides AK Mags (.308 Mags for instance), what's your overall impression?

I don't know any of the answers to your questions but I want that outfit.
>>28862628
I would answer your question if I had it, but instead I think I'm going to buy plates for my 6b45? Maybe I can scrape for a smersh if I find out how much I have.

What do you guys think of the prospect of helicopter rifles. Similar to how anti-tank rifles appeared in ww1/ww2, do you think that a modern equivalent could function. Imagine a single soldier being able to put down a helicopter with one good shot.
Or, is this just putting to much stock into one idea?

anything that provides a significant tactical advantage is a good fucking idea
>not knowing this
>2016
The ratio of economic cost/benefit for the rifle's deployer is attractive, but it seems as though it would very much be a right place/time thing.
Helos in a low hover would disappear in a battlespace where these were routinely employed.
