>>29228064
So what exactly is staff duty?
How do they determine who gets staff duty? Is it easy?
>>29228131
You basically sit at a desk for 24 hours occasionally making or answering phone calls and cleaning.
It's determined by whoever didn't put in for leave or pass that day.
>>29228064
Are you doing company duty or higher?
Give me ideas /k/. I know you'll have some good ones.

Jump boots.
Probably Corcoran.
They are not what >>29227913 says.
Different speed laces.
I will look into it
Why come did they have rope attaching their handguns to their bodies?
Dropping when they lost it not
>>29227409
In case they ever ate shit so hard that their pistol went flying away from them.
There are modern versions of these as well.
Why is this even a thread?
>>29227409
Well you fucking foreigner.
It was so he wouldn't lose his fucking gun in battle.
Now git out.
Hey /k/, I'm looking into buying my first firearm (specifically for home defense, but also recreational purposes) and I don't really know all that much about guns. I'm looking for a handgun or shotgun, preferably on the cheaper side, but reliable as possible. I was looking yesterday at a compact 9mil and a few .40 cal that were on the smaller side. I'd also like to be able to concealed carry if possible. If there's anyone who knows enough to give me a good recommendation, I'd appreciate it! Thanks guys.
Compact 9mil. Go to a gun store and fingerfuck the pistols you fancy to see how they fit in your hand. Even try a store with an indoor range and try shooting them. Anything but Tarus or HiPoint and you're good.
>>29226634
yeah, I liked the way the 9mil felt, even though it was on the smaller side. It definitely felt like it would pack a decent punch. The s&w was a little pricey though. Any brands that are known to be reliable but are also cheap?
Hi.
http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/
CCW's with short barrels chambered in 9x19, .40 S&W or .45 ACP do not perform significantly better than .380 ACP (especially with modern bullet geometries) while also packing significantly more recoil.
You're honestly better off buying a separate gun for CC than the one you use for home defense (get something you can mount a tactical light to for that) and recreational shooting (CCW's are typically not too fun to shoot).
Physics major here.
I've been learning everything possible about propeller planes lately.
Ducted fans, axial fans, supersonic tipped fans, subsonic compression ratios, blade element theory, etc.
I have found my passion, and I want to share knowledge with you guys and talk about prop fighters. My goal one day is to make these things relevant again with a new engine patent. Maybe not for fighting modern jets, but at least for viable ground support.
Do you guys like them? Any ex-military guys here ever flown a Super Tucano?
>>29226387
Engineering technologist, here.
There are a lot of recent advances in manufacturing that could allow for much more efficient geometries, but I don't believe propeller planes will have much use on the modern battlefield minus perhaps drones.
>>29226387
P51>all else
>>29226409
I believe you'd need to have assisted power since compression has a limit, that or use a regulated closed system but that would be extremely expensive.
>>29226413
No, I posted the FR because it is better for both land and sea operations, has a better climb rate, better roll rate, better turn rate, better everything desu and is more interesting in design. Contra-rotating props are inherently what you want for stability to recover from slipstream dampening
/k/ what's your opinion on the coast guards tactical law enforcement division. I have a command recommendation to get stationed at a taclet and I'd have to re-enlist. Thinking about joining the army or possibly navy if I don't re-enlist
>>29226210
The Coast Guard had a great television series I used to watch all the time called, Bay Watch. That Pamela Anderson was smoking hot.
>>29226210
cost guard is pretty cool guy. eh catches drug smugglers, gives boaters tickets and doesnt afraid of anything
>>29227980
Underrated meme.
Now I know you have had this topic ran into the ground. Is it a futile effort to even create body armor that can withstand the bullet yet still kill the person from the sheer force. How would you go about solving the problem to spread out the kinetic energy as much as you can?
>>29226150
Matt from DemolitionRanch has a nice series of videos showing what a .50 BMG FMJ does to SEVERAL plates of armor
in short, it's not feasible without something to augment the wearer's strength, because they'd be carrying around 50lbs of armor at a minimum

Is a Smith and Wesson M&P for 538 a good deal?
>>29225548
That's pretty over priced. I regularly see them for about $460.
>>29225548
Unless you're getting the v tac sights I've seen them for under 400
>>29225548
I just checked my local gun shop and they are selling them this month for $419 in 9mm and .40 S&W. $489 for .45 acp.
What does /k/ thing of TiN(Titanium nitride) bolt carriers?
Are they worth it?
I know a standard BCG will work just as well, but thoughts?
>>29225431
From a TiN coatings on tools .pdf
>TiN coating will be most effective in reducing flank wear and, thus increasing tool life. In addition, the low frictional and anti-weld characteristics of titanium nitride, it can be utilized to allow higher speeds and feeds thus providing increased productivity.
Durability. And aesthetically it's a pleasant hue with black imo. Purists don't like it, and it's benefits aren't shattering, you're paying extra for an extra hard finish that looks nice.
Slightly more resistant but basics cheap "mil-spec" carrier go on trucking for tens of thousands of rounds anyway.
>Do you want to be extra Gucci?
Go for it.
>>29225431
I've used regular bolts since 1988 and haven't had a problem. Tens of thousands of rounds sent down range. Zero broken bolts or bolt carriers.
Here's a pic of me with my very first B and BC:
>Highlighting the stringent selection process During the STF Training Course in 2005 a total of 453 applications were received. When pre-selection was done, only 108 of the 453 candidates measured up to pre-selection requirements. Of the 108 who made it through pre-selection, only 42 completed the Preparation and Condition (PREPCON) phase, and only 20 candidates managed to complete the Vasbyt phase. The recruits who didn't pass the PREPCON phase admitted that their failure to do so was due to the insufficient preparation for the course because they had thought that STF’s standards have been lowered. Members of the unit have visited foreign units of a similar role on several occasions, to ensure that the structure and procedures of the unit is in line with international training courses, and to keep up with changes in training and other specialized fields.[15]
Not a question specific to STF, but why do elite selection programs do this? It's all well and good to want elite troops, but you could accept the preselection only and have 5 times the manpower.
Doesn't make sense given the overall casualty rate of these elite units.
Anyone wanna weigh in?
>>29225415
>the STF Training Course
The what now? What's that for?
>>29225424
South African GSG-9 Essentially. Paramilitary SWAT.
In an SF environment, one guy fucking up can have more of an effect than one guy in a mechanized unit fucking up, and 5x the manpower is irrelevant if you can only deploy a small force in the first place.
Much like aircraft carriers; you don't want 500 biplanes, you want 75 F/A-18s.

So, should I or should I not bring any shotguns?
DA RULES say they're not allowed and frankly they're not much fun unless we have clays imho...
>>29225103
I didn't know you could have guns in Georgia, slavlands usually have poor gun laws for some reason.
But do you think there are enough Georgians on the board to get a meet going?
>>29225419
Weak bait mon frere.
if katanas are so sharp, why dont they cut through their own sheath?

Inside the sheath is the katana's strict Asian parents.
Hello guys,
I'm about to get my license to manufacture and distribute pretty much anything electromechanical, and I still have some leftover boxes advanced and smart materials from older prototypes.
Long story short I think I can build a draw weight assist supersonic bow (maybe one or two)
Before I start the detailed math and safety considerations and shit I'd like to ask if all y'all know any crazy ass mofos that'd be interested in owning such a tool, and how much you'd expect they'd be willing to pay for it.
A bit about the details:
It'll feel pretty much like a regular 50-70 lb. compound, except that it's got a little more mass on the front end.
disadvantage, it'll have a refractory period of somewhere in the abouts of 30 seconds to 3 minutes, and you may have to lug around a car battery if you want to shoot more than once.
If you have any questions about the details, ask away. there ain't no secrets.*
*end product may deviate from pre-concept specifications
Until you get that car battery shit done OP, you got the market cornered. Really, you could set your own price and not worry about people not buying your product because you're the only one selling. However don't up charge extensively or else no one, not even Flandres, would buy one. Also look professional, because I won't mind giving you a few bucks for one.
>tl;dr: You make your own price, make it reasonable, and I want one.
P.S. Look into Kickstarter as well, that'd be pretty good.
>>29224953
>You make your own price, make it reasonable
>I won't mind giving you a few bucks for one.
now the thing is the materials alone (and I don't have the absolute numbers in, but a conservative estimate) , for a single piece, would cost around the ballpark of $5k.
>>29225009
Well if that's the case, you need to also compete against regular bows then. What's the poundage that your getting out of this for 50-70 pounds? If it's much greater then you just made a great step in bows, for those that still use them. If there's not that much of a difference, then don't try. Sorry.
