I'm not seeing a gear queen thread so might as well start one.
I have a request for some suggestions, I currently have some british woodland DPM (UBACS, combat trousers, waterproof jacket) I'm a Brit now living in Alabama, I need some suggestions for a plate carrier, boots, headgear etc. For a bugout kit. Pretty much what you see is what I've got. What do you guys think i should get?
Where did you find that Dpm ubacs?
>>29424074
I got it years back when i lived back in the UK. I know there are some places like cadet direct that ship internationally that sell them pretty reasonably since the British army switched to MTP.

I hate using this on my phone "gear queen"
I'm a college student but the are I live in has been steadily getting more unsafe and I feel the need to have something to defend my home with. The problem is that my apartment complex has a strict no deadly weapon policy, meaning that if I have to use a gun I would be evicted. What are some non deadly weapon ways (that are not pepper spray/ tazer) to defend my home.

How would they know?
If you get murdered, you won't care that they didn't evict you.

Has a women ever successfully designed a firearm (something original I.e. Not an accessory or cosmetic detail to an existing design)? I can't think of a single military that has adopted a gun who's lead designer was female and even on the civilian market my mind still runs blank. I know a lot of you will make jokes but I ask this question sincerely.
>>29472219
Women typically aren't very good at anything in general so I would guess no
Op here, what about some gommie military designer, if not only for a political statement.
>>29472279
Then there is a guy probably behind her trying to get dem women buyers to give him shekles.
Moving to ny in a few months.
What's the chances of me getting a ccw, or at least a shotgun for the home?
Shotgun yes.
CCW... I'm so sorry
>>29472080
Shotgun, yeah
CCW? You're fucked there
>>29472080
>Moving to ny in a few months.
Why.
As a guy who doesn't understand a thing about weapons, what are some good resources for me to learn. Websites, books, whatever. I'd really like to get into this stuff but I don't know the first thing about any of it.

looking to add a gas mask to my kit. i see a lot of russian mil surp on ebay. are they worth the buy? they are pretty cheap and theres plenty of filters online. but the masks look uncomfortable and they are dated. is tehre anything better out there that wont break the bank?
>>29471047
yes.
caveat emptor.
Why pay all that money when you can just use a piss rag? When you're done you can ring it out and use it as a headband, or a filter for water, or to bathe with!
>>29471047
I've heard Israeli gas masks are good protection for the price. But if you want reliable NBC protection you'll get commercial masks and filters.
If I wanted a lightweight and high quality .380 pocket gun, would the Kahr P380 be a good choice?
Why does Kahr still exist as a company with their prices? They don't even have the bullshit reputation that Kimber has to keep them afloat.
>>29470772
how are kahrs expensive
>>29470789
Once you get past the cheaper models- the CM9 I believe?- the price jumps up stupid fast.
Also their triggers suck, slide lock is stupidly stiff, grip feels like a glock but slightly worse.
Why do all aircraft carriers have an island? The early converted merchant vessels like Argus and Langley didn't bother. You see quite a few designs in the interwar period without them too - Hosho, Ryujo, Shoho, the first configurations of the Amagi-conversions - and even during the war the British converted carriers like Audacity do without. The United States-class of supercarriers designed after WWII was going to have no island either, but they got cancelled and all modern aviation ships have an island on the starboard side.
Why is this? What's the advantage of the island and disadvantage of the flush-deck.
>>29470502
They quickly found with early flattops that it was too hard to manage without an above-deck bridge. Hell, even Argus had a retractable pilot house in the middle of the deck.
Plus, it provides space for flight deck controllers to survey the deck and manage aircraft.
>>29470502
The same reason air control towers exist.
Because the admirals insist on having a bridge
>>29470636
What was true in the 50's and 60's is not really true today, since you can just have cameras/electronics keeping track of planes/personnel for you
What's with the recent trend of people eschewing thumb safety's? Is it just trying to be "edgy" by discounting a basic safety feature?
>>29470374
there just is not a need
>>29470374
Because guns aren't fucking 1911's anymore, fuckboy.
>>29470374
Some people just don't know what glock leg is
Some looked like a tard at basic training when they didn't flip off the M9s safety on pistol day
Some people don't understand you can keep the safety off on your CC piece and the gun gremlin won't magically put it back on right before you need to defend yourself
>TFW you just put a fresh coat of grease on your battle rifle
>>29470222
Grease?
Why?
>>29470229
By "grease" he means lube and by "rifle" he means fleshlight
Way too much. It should be shiny without color. Learn to grease pleb.
So I bought this beauty (pic related) weeks ago for two reasons, its a Mauser and for shtf/sniper role(because I don't have enough money for a modern weapon). Good idea? Or bad? I want your opinions.
> I don't have enough money for a modern weapon
You don't have $450 for a WASR?
You get the Mauser for historical appreciation.
For SHTF role, you get a semi-automatic carbine.
>>29469998
If you can afford a Mauser, you can afford an Axis or Patriot, both of which would be better choices for use in the field.
>>29469998
>M48
>for shtf/sniper role
>2016
Unless you live in /ex-Yu/, it's a bad idea. Nothing wrong with the rifle, you just want something with better sights (iron or optical) and more easily available ammunition.
Anyone on /k/ have any info on the Boberg XR-9? Saw in on TFB-TV's YouTube channel and was genuinely interested.
>inb4 bullpup handgun
supposedly they are quite good as long as you stick with ammo its compatible with
however its price is a factor
>>29469733
The design has been bought by Bond Arms of Texas, production should begin this year and be greater than the 2 a day Boberg could do.
>>29470195
Hope that brings the price way down, it's a very interesting design.
