“I also think there are prices too high to pay to save the United States. Conscription is one of them. Conscription is slavery, and I don't think that any people or nation has a right to save itself at the price of slavery for anyone, no matter what name it is called. We have had the draft for twenty years now; I think this is shameful. If a country can't save itself through the volunteer service of its own free people, then I say: Let the damned thing go down the drain!”

He is a dick though. He also hasn't really done anything, he's just the guy in the video. He has other people doing most of the technical stuff and they all say he is a dickhead.
I wouldn't mind having one of their Ghost Gunner machines.
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but considering that I'm more interested in the science than the fiction part of the weapon type in question, I hope this thread will give some constructive answers.
So, how possible are directed energy weapons that project lightning in the vein of Lightning Gun from Matrix? How would such a weapon direct it's discharge to a target of your choice? Would it even be possible to have more than a few charges considering the power requirements a device like this would need? Were there any real attempts to use lightning as a weapon? Are there any ongoing researches on this subject today?
>>29512053
We dont have the battery technology. So you would need a really long cord.
>>29512053
I'll talk about aiming the damn thing
That lightning won't go where you need it unless it has some guide wires, like a tazer, otherwise it's gonna prefer metal all around you

Just use a gun.
This is like asking if we can weaponize cheese. Guns already kill people, there's no reason to try and weaponize an extremely weak force to be just as good as something we've already been using for hundreds of years.
So I'm in a bit of dilemma.
>11 years old
>grandfather has an old shotgun from new york
>shared his interest in guns with me, talked about them a lot and showed me how to use them
>says I can have it when I'm old enough
>passes away
>uncle and aunt in-law HATE GUNS. Takes the shotgun for safekeeping
>tell me they already sold it, heartbroken
>12 years later
>they're moving to a smaller house
>I notice the shotgun is in the back of the car they're using to move stuff
>I demand it back
>they quote media statistics and say that I'll kill myself because of that
>argument ensues and during the argument, my aunt slips out and drives away with the gun
>now the gun is at their new house and they're currently trying to get rid of it
What is my recourse for getting it back, if possible? The gun was bought in new york as far as I know, but I don't have any paperwork that my grandfather left me.
I'm thinking this will be a civil matter but other than word of mouth, I have no idea how I can get it back, whether it be through police or discussion, which is unlikely as my aunt is a die-hard liberal who hates guns with an ever loving passion.
>>29512047
Give, unless you have something in writing you have no chance legally.
>>29512063
Give? As in give up? I really don't want to but the odds do looked stacked against me. Can I report it as stolen? The gun's original residence was my house, as I lived with my grandfather if that helps.
You say they are trying to get rid of it. If they post it publicly for sale anywhere, have a friend go buy it for you. A couple hundred bucks is worth not having to go through this shit with shitty family members, trust me. If you totally drop it with them, there's no way they'd suspect what's going on.
Do your parents have any sway with them/a non anti mindset?
I feel for you OP, "family" that is willing to fuck you over never feels good.
Shoot/Don't Shoot
Post the timestamp of when you believe you would utilize deadly force to neutralize the target.
Discuss this event and the circumstances behind the utilization of the the officer's handgun.
Discuss if non-lethal options would have been appropriate.
Discuss what kind of handgun the officer was carrying and assume what kind of ammunition was loaded in it.

Personally I would have deaded this guy at exactly 2:45.
Watching without sound, when did he fire?
Also, I'd shoot at 1:53 when he pulls out the knife.
Noguns here, what gun is this?
Thinking Sig or HK but not sure. Screen is from Better Call Saul.
It actually says Sig Sauer on the front...

Floridian newfriend in terms of exercising my 2nd amendment, I've always wanted to but haven't felt the need, now I'm bored and feel like getting it out of the way.
However, it's sort of hard to figure out how to go about this(I've spent an hour on google and can't make heads or tails, a lot of websites say different shit). Do you get the license first, then are able to take classes? or do you take classes THEN get the license?
>>29511921
Honestly OP, given the way that you wrote this post, you sound schizophrenic.
I hope you are not successful in your aim to obtain a firearm.

I'm tired, and intoxicated, I haven't slept after work. I'm just in a weird motivated mood to get shit done(I plan on doing this completely sober)

You mean concealed carry? Take the class, get your packet in order, do your fingerprints, and send that shit to the department of agriculture. The gun shop/gun show you do the class at will tell you how to do it properly
Buying a gun is a 5 business day wait in Dade and broward, cash and carry for rifles and shotguns in non shit counties. Just don't be a felon, mental defective, or get charged with domestic violence.
What makes a sniper rifle a sniper rifle? Are the barrels made to handle more rounds than a regular hunting rifle? You're usually using hunting rounds anyway. 5.56-7.62 and the occasional longer range rounds.
I feel like there's not really a difference, a long range rifle is a long range rifle and if it's used by the military it's just a rifle used by a trained sniper.
Prove me wrong /k/ I wanna know.
>>29511758
Longer barrel
Usually bolt gun but not always
>>29511758
A sniper rifle is a rifle in the hands of a sniper.
A certain Finn used a nugget with iron sights.
Some jarhead mounted an optic on a m2.
And, of course, plenty of very skilled snipers have used custom built rifles built on both manual and autoloading actions.
Be aware while researching the subject that different countries define snipers differently.
>>29511758
It's just a term to denote a rifle that a sniper would use.
There are certain qualities that are attractive/useful to a sniper, such as a powerful scope, or a long barrel. Rifles with those qualities are sniper rifles.
It's like asking what a "family car" is. It's a car with features that a family would find useful, like four doors and a big trunk...
Why aren't Military Motorbikes more common?

Are mini-me's standard issue in the British military?
>>29511700
For the same reason practically nobody uses them in real life: they're dangerous, they can't carry shit, and they're loud as fuck.
The worst four-wheeled vehicle is still more useful than the best two-wheel.
Motorcycles are for scouting and air assets have made the obsolete.

>be in a delayed entry program (NUPOC)
>About to graduate from college
>ship out to navy ocs in two months
>haven't started to physically condition myself for ocs
>can only run a 15 min 1.5
>start looking into what navy ocs is like

*muffled It Ain't Me playing down the road*
is anyone else worried that the intrusion of safety culture into the armed forces will have a serious negative effect on their ability to fight an actual protracted conflict?
a century ago you could lose millions in the space of a few months, and this was thought of as being a necessary sacrifice. these days it's a catastrophe if a single soldier dies in training.
>>29511358
No.
The culture, at least in the infantry, is not of risk aversion, but of risk management.
Also get fucked. Why would i want to kill a private in the name of "good" training?
Once an actual conflict arises it gets thrown out the window, so, no.
>>29511358
>these days it's a catastrophe if a single soldier dies in training.
It is. There are people whose line of work is making sure these excercises and functions are safe for everyone involved and if someone dies during what's supposed to be safe and routine training, something has gone tits up and heads are going to roll.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of explosive rounds, and why don't we use them today?
I just watched this video by the Forgotten Weapons guys testing vintage WW2 stuff, and it looks pretty devastating.
https://www.full30.com/video/82efb579fd3c93d177205966ef3d3c9d
I'm sure we could improve on the design with modern machining and materials. Imagine explosive .338 Lapua Magnum.
They're expensive to make and the only people we ever fight these days are unarmored, untrained dunecoons driving Toyotas. No need for fancy exploding rounds.
Advantages:
>blows up
Disadvantages:
>blows up
>expensive
>>29511305
Mostly, it's a bit less lethal than steel jacketed lead rounds. The bullets are less dense so it's going to loose velocity quicker. Likewise, penetration suffers. The explosive charge is a little more than a firecracker due in no small part that the detonator takes up much of the bullet. Even without a detonator we're talking less bang than a really shitty hand grenade with no shrapnel.
Sure, you can kill infantry but regular bullets kill infantry. Maybe you get more performance when dealing with body armor but the explosion alone isn't going to reliably kill. At most you'll annoy most armored vehicles and good luck hitting any aircraft with that kind of ballistic performance.
I think that's everything, did I miss anything?
