Concrete is pretty awesome substance to build bunkers and other fortifications. Cheap, versitile and usually easy to incorporate into any surrounding.

But the problem is that it's... not all that durable on the long term. if you look at bunkers of WW2 or so (or even younger ones) they quickly fall into disrepair. It just can't take the wear and tear of time. The climate and even mild acidity of rain will quickly crumble them.

Where as if you look at Ye Olde Schoole castles, they are pretty fine even after centuries of poor maintenance. They used STONE to craft those things, and while it was more difficult and expensive to work on, once it was build it was pretty much maintenance free for centuries.

So I was wondering if there was some modern technique to make "weather-proof" concrete, for structures that are meant to be there for not just 50 years but for 300 years later?

If we forget about the artillery, anc solely focus on "hwo to make things last for centuries" does concrete have any room in that discussion? Or are you more or less forced to rely on STONE?

Tell me the answer to the Riddle of Concrete!

Pictured: a bunker not 100 years old.

The Romans built concrete piers and docks that have survived over 1000 years submerged in salt water. The key was the volcanic ash used in the formula.

The modern evolution of this is geopolymer concrete, which should last pretty much forever. It actually incorporates water into the chemical structure instead of just being activated by it.

Another problem is the steel rebar. Once water infiltrates the concrete (at a rate of about 1 inch per year iirc) and hits the rebar, it begins to rust, swell, and spall. This kills the structure.

I love basalt rebar and basalt fibers. It is slightly more expensive than the steel rebar but has many advantages and will never rust or deform. Fireproof, better tensile strength, lasts forever. It is also the same density as concrete so the fibers mix easily and distribute evenly, and the rebar doesn't sink or float when you pour the mold, unlike steel or fiberglass.

Geopolymer concrete + basalt rebar = buildings and infrastructure that last effectively forever.

Fine folk of /k/

I will be moving from Western Pennsylvania to Lower Michigan in a few weeks.

What I wish to know is how gun laws/culture are different there. I know Michigan reciprocates PA carry permits but will I have to get a new one? What is NFA like there?

For reference I'm moving to an upper middle class neighborhood in the Detroit Metro Area.

This.

Michigan is a pretty decent gun state, just general stuff regarding limitations. No auto, need licensing for carry and concealed, tax stamps for suppressor, SBR, AOW.

As for whether or not you'll need an entirely new license, I'm unsure. I wouldn't think so, but hopefully a more informed anon can assist.

If you were to equip an army in 1909 (and you are given the full hindsight of a person living in this day) with small arms, what would you equip them with?
They want pistols, rifles, light and heavy machine guns.

I will be purchasing one of these two in the very near future but I cant decide which to buy first. They are both within my price range and can be had new or milsurp. Which one should I buy first? My goal is to complete the set of classic American service rifles.

If you had ever handled an M1, this wouldn't be a question. The M1 Garand is the greatest battle implement ever devised.
>>
>>29535632

Garand is a much easier rifle to maintain overall in my opinion. The Carbine can be a little finnicky in the disassembly process. I've owned 3 GI carbines and it can be quite difficult to remove the trigger housings from the lugs on the receiver.

However, the Carbine will be a more 'practical" rifle for the money due to it's box magazine feature. Be warned though, GI mags can be pricey ($25-$40 used) and a lot of the commercial mags out there are junk, but you can still get decent ones for $12-$15 if you look around for ones with good reviews.
>>
>>29535667

I have shot both and owned a Carbine. Its just a tough decision to make becuase I like them both equally as much

They got no 2nd Amendment.

You can't tell the difference between a good guy with a gun and a bad guy with a gun so I guess when they use blank guns for self defense they are hoping to scare the bad gun into thinking their life is in jeopardy.

You can also burn the shit out of someone if you shoot a blank gun at them at near point blank space.

Discuss blank gun self defense.

Hello /k/ i am new here. need your opinions and help. Not sorry for bad english
/diy/ doesnt like me or my ideas but i think someone who knows how guns work could appriciate this.
Chinese had chu ko nu, but it was weak and innacurate. Nobody in the medieval times was smart as i am now to think of this push/pumpaction/repeating/skyrimknockoff/chukonuknockoff krossbow.
its all mechanical and no gunpowder is to be used, no electronic machine, no petroleum powered, just your hands.
I shot guns before but coming form not usa i cant take a gun and break it appart to see how it works
I need your help in deciding the way of how the bolt goes from the magazine, into the side-cut barrel so it can be launched.
If any policeman are wondering, no i will not be a weapon, it will launch plastic bolts with cotton tips (it will have some lead deep in the bolt to keep balance during flight, cant put wings because it flies trought rifled barrel) and will have messages like I heart ATF, #nguns, bang...
So how about it /k/? What do you think of the concept of such crossbow?
Ask questions about picrelated because i dont have technical draw programs, just ms paint and filthy laser mouse

I can tell you this much, you didn't even include at what point your lever arm is going to pivot- which still doesn't matter because your drawing shows you've A. never loaded a crossbow and B. never designed anything with a lever
