This thread is for posting about your first time shooting a gun, an experience with a new shooter's first time at the range, or how to teach new shooters/make the first trip positive.
>Remember, the best defense against gun control is proactively getting the next generation safely into guns.
Posted this in another thread but it fits here.
>Heading to eange to shoot my new guns
>Friend invites his buddy and buddies little brother
>Little kids first time at the range
>OhShit I left the .22 at home
>Best gun I got for a new shooter is a Smith and Wesson. 357 and some cheap .38 special
>Go over safety rules, let him dry fire the gun a dozen times in single action
>Set up target at 7yds and load a single round
>He loves it, immediately wants to shoot another round
>Gave him the spent brass from his first round ever fired
>Let him have a whole target to himself and gave it to him after (He carved his name into the shoot n' see part with the spent brass)
>By the end of a box of .38 he could load and index a cylinder, shoot single action, eject spent brass, and had good trigger discipline
>All he wanted to do is go again.
He also shot a few .357 mag. Like a champ and my Sig p228 and Makarov. He really liked the makarov.
His 3rd round cut the X out of the bullseye and he was ecstatic.

Picture from the other thread of the kid rocking my 65-2
Really polite well behaved kid.
>>29564000
Are you Asian? I have only seen that haircut on asains
>>29564128
Not me, that's the kids brother that brought him to the range.
I think he just got out of basic or something
I'm looking for the webm of an AMR that used what was essentialy a long recoil action. It was bullpup if that helps.
It fuctioned similar to the Mars pistol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBKqvLpxpU4
Other wise this is a cool action thread.
Short recoil toggle lock
I think flying one of these planes would be pretty cool, but is it even possible to buy one in the US?
I see them for sale in Europe, but never here.
And the company that made the 75% scale of them got killed by the FAA.
>>29563668
just buy fucking cessna and fuck off,
well it may not fit your swastika tatto on your forehead tho
>>29563668
You could probably doll up a Piper J-3 Cub. They were opponents in war but the bodies are very similar
>>29563734
The J-3 is similar but it doesn't have that super slow flight capability, nor does it have the beefy landing gear.
Do Marlin leverguns still suck now? It's 2016
did Remmington get better over the past few years? Or should I just get a different levergun?
Marlin lever guns got good in mid-2014. Anything since then should be good. I'm getting a 336C myself.
I have a 2015 1895GS.
The magazine tube spring and loading gate are a little stiff, but I don't put that much ammo through it due to cost.
The action is smooth, it's fun to shoot, and it's a damn beautiful rifle.
I had a 2015 336c that wouldn't chamber rounds, and after sending it to the factory twice for repairs, it still would not chamber rounds.
Got the refund and bought a 1968RC at a gunshow a week later.
Marlin is better than they were. But it is still a touch risky.
/k/, what would be your ideal firearm loadout for under $1,000 USD? Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun.
I'll go first, Zastava M57 Tokarev ($290), Mossberg 500 ($350) and Chinese Type 56 SKS (around $350)

It's just a hypothetical question. I know most can afford more than this.
$400 rifle and $600 of ammo.
For those of you who shoot or have interest in 7.62x25 guns and/or ammo, I have a question.
I own 2 Tokarevs and a PPS43 (which, praise be to Kek, will have its tax stamp in soon). I love 7.62x25, but I am wondering which of these is the better new production ammo- PPU or Century's Red Army Standard? I am needing to do another bulk order of this ammo and can't decide which is better because there aren't really any comparisons online.
I actually found some tests where the PPU maxed out at about 1600fps out of the Tokarev, but I can't find anything on the RAS. As a side note, Sellier & Bellot is okay, but fairly weak in this caliber.
Here is my personal experience- PPU feeds well and shoots well. Feels to be loaded hotter than S&B. However, in my Romanian Tokarev, I often get hang ups where the slide goes back, but doesn't come back to chamber the next round. In the PPS, the damn firing pin totally shatters the primer, but otherwise it fires fine.
For the RAS- same consistent shootability, but it even feels a bit hotter than PPU. My Romanian Tokarev doesn't hang up nearly as much with this ammo and the PPS doesn't destroy the primers.
Anyone else have interest in this caliber or any other insights? I guess this can be a 7.62x25 thread.
I've shot both PPU and RAS in my tok and pps-43c. Both are really fine ammunition. It all depends how you feel about the RAS steel case and bi-metal jacket.
>>29563203
PPU is good reload able brass. RAS is steel cased. The choice for long term shooting should be obvious.
Is six dollars a good price for a box of 20 nugget rounds? The academy near me has RAS for that price.
So realistically, how big will tank guns become as time goes on? Nowadays, the standard seems to be 120-125mm caliber for a main battle tank. Is it realistic to expect that caliber sizes will grow or have we reached the relative peak? Now, I've heard rumors that Russia plans to give the T-14 a larger caliber gun, greater than 5 inches in diameter but I don't know if I believe that. Rheinmetall has experimented with a 140 mm cannon for the Leopard II in the past but now that project has been abandoned. Have we reached the point where an increase in caliber is simply no longer practical because it would reduce ammunition capacity too much? You also must consider the size of the tank itself: if the tank is too big, it will get stuck and it won't be able to do its job effectively. Modern tanks are already massive. Any bigger is probably too big.
>>29563188
For you.
>>29563188
I don't see any western nation up-gunning to 140mm unless war with a modern well equipped nation was imminent, even then I doubt it.
ETC guns however have great potential, but the tech isn't quite there yet.

whoops wrong pic
Which missile could sink or destroy a Nimitz class aircraft carrier?
>no nukes
>>29563106
> No nukes
That's cheating, because really that was all the Russian had planned to deal with carrier groups
Just one missile?
>>29563120
Maybe two
oh my god /k/ is a friend of mine the most retarded person ever?
He just said
>without moral support from the us-establishment the Viet Cong wouldn't have accomplished anything
also Vietnam general
>>29563101
The US lost Vietnam because of color Television. For the first time people saw what war was really like.
>>29563101
from the thumbnail it looks like he's holding someones spine
>>29563405
Oh come on, Korea had practically the same public antipathy which led to a ceasefire. The only reason people remember Vietnam is because hippies and that we unambiguously lost.
>FUCK YEAR RELOADING
I have to move all my crap to my office so I can have a "real" guest bedroom... Y'all stocked up for the election rush? I need to find some more Varget and 308 projectiles...
Varget is in plentiful supply around me. 4350 is hard to find, H4350 is impossible.
308 pills all over the place.
6.5 and creedmoor brass.... Impossible.
>>29563093
that reminds me, I've gotta find some H4350 soon too, I'm all out and my Swedish mausers are hungry
Ugh... I was gonna start reloading soon. Should I wait til the panic begins to subside?
What's the most deadly arm of the military, in terms of number of casualties inflicted? I read that during WWII the biggest killer was artillery, and that it was responsible for more deaths than any other unit type. Is this still true for modern wars? Or is air superiority and bombing more deadly?
>>29562574
Artillery, still, not including massive bombings on civilians or nukes.
>>29562731
Nice. Is it a popular MOS? I mean everyone thinks being 11B or 0311/grunt is being a "killer", when in reality you get to blast the most people from a distance.
>>29562795
Artillerymen are dumb and incompetent, t. Finn.
It's a lot of dakka though and a well-trained squad can send great amounts of ordnance down range in minimal time.

God I love that song.
"Silver spoon in hand" By the Senators Sons for anyone wondering.
Mind you "House in new Orleans" and "I see a red door" are stellar too.

KEK
So, I recently came into the ownership of this lovely Winchester Model 1897 Takedown Shotgun, and I have a couple of questions for the fine folk of /k/
1. Will this gun handle normal shotgun loads?
2. Should I reblue the barrel or leave it as is?
3. Does anyone have an old owner's manual as a pdf? I'd like to make sure I lube and clean his properly, tis a beautiful gun.
>>29562463
Posting the model stamp.
>>29562463
Hey i've got the same gun! and yeah I shoot fiocchi high brass #2 steel shot out of it no problem for duck hunting
>>29562527
Awesome, any idea how this performs with slugs or sabot?
I ate some mre's while innawoods this week and was wondering if I should keep them. I got them from a friend a while ago and somestuff inside says it expired in 08
While they're probably fine, I've personally never seen either of those two, which means the military has stopped handing them out. Those things can last forever though.
Just use common sense, if you open anything and it smells/tastes bad, stop eating it.
>>29562292
Thought these things had self lives of like 20 years?
>>29562327
Fuck yeah! Beef teryaki was one of my favorites! But I don't think others liked it much... I know they stopped with it years and years ago because I've been out for over three years now and don't remember that one being around since I was in Iraqistan (2008).
Hey /k/ Im not a professional at this shit and honestly, Im bamboozled. Is it a clip or a magazine on this imaginary weapon.
Drum.
>>29562251
clip. magazine completely encloses the round and is detachable.
Probably some kind of clip, assuming that half circle thing is where ammo is loaded
Kind of reminds me of how the bastard In metro is reloaded
