The most impractical service weapons used by modern law enforcement. Japanese police forces have chosen a double-action Nambu M60, .38, revolver for their standard issue service weapon. Why would technologically advanced country do that? This gun is practically antique.

I've been wondering for ages what this carving in the stock of my Romy SKS means, possibly initials or something. Anyone here Romanian or speak it? To me it looks like a "L" and "K" and possibly a "T" in English, I don't know what it could be in Russian as there's no L in Cyrillic.
Just taking a shot in the dark here, any info is welcome.
General stock carvings thread because why not, I've seen some badass German and Serbian stock carvings.

actually Anon, these markings show that this rifle (or at least the stock) is a rare Soviet firing port-version of the SKS designed for use in the "Лyнный кopaбль" capsule. Very rare find you have there, good luck with it.

Why wasn't the revolver mechanism used for long guns when it was so successful for handguns?
I'm not trying to start one of those "hurr durr I know better than Colt/the DoD/whatever" threads, but I am kinda curious as to how this came to be.

My friends and I are planning a summer road trip from Chicago to Wichita Denver ABQ Pheonix LA San Fran Portland Seattle Mt Rushmore Minneapolis and back to Chicago

So, the Israeli Defence Force is conducting an operation along with the Police, allowing people to return anything they stole from the army during their service days, no questions asked. Worked out pretty well last year with over 2 mil USD of equipment returned, and even better this year, with a machine gun and a 4x4 vehicle. But this, this is just gold. This guy returned his old man's 1907 St. Etienne make rifle, if the media ain't lying about the model. Do you think a similar operation would work out for the US forces?

Work fine, but it's long term use is questionable if you don't know how to sharpen a knife since the edge it comes with isn't particularly sharp and it loses that rather quickly.
