So I have a PTR with a welded on rail like this.
What kind of optic should I put on it?
More specifically I want a low to mid power magnified optic, but not sure what to get. I wan't something that sits low, and probably fixed magnification.

I'd say either the ebony(?) or the original rosewood(?) grips look best. The other woods are really busy looking, and while they'd look good on a solid finish, they detract from the finish on yours. I personally prefer the ebony grips, because they would compliment the frame, and look very sleek.

do you think a modern military could be effective with only side by side 12g smooth bore double barrel shotguns for small arms? full variety of ammo is available and even barrel inserts for other calibers.

You want a thin oil for cleaning stuff. Rem Oil is the shit for that.
But you want something a little thicker so it has some sticking power on components and nooks and crannies.
Just get a nice brush set for the bore.
