Why did the American Civil War last as long as it did?
I might understand if it was a low-intensity war, but you're looking at over 150,000 dead every year for four years.
With this many dead, why didn't the war finish sooner?
Unlike the revolutionary war, our enemies were fellow Americans, not some pussy redcoat sons of bitches
>>29774617
Because there were a lot of people in America then.
>>29774617
The northerners were not well led and the southerners were. The northerners had lots of production and men and the South didnt. South kept beating the north but the north could afford those defeats. After the south had worn through it's initial stock of manpower and materiel they could put up spirited but ineffective resistance and so were slowly pushed back all the way to Richmond by an aggressive if not imaginative general grant while having their base of support burned and looted by Sherman from their strategic flank.
Been a while since I've seen one.
What scope should I get? Long range shooting (1k+ yd), budget is ~$1200 plus or minus some. Going on a 308 and eventually a 6.5CM. Thinking of Burris XTR II 5-25 scr mil. Also have been looking at bushnell 4.5-30 and PST 6-24.
I'm not entirely convinced that I need a Christmas tree reticle.
burris xtr 2 is a good option, or the SWFA 5-25.
the swfa 5-25 is fantastic, and has a lifetime warranty ( as does the burris)
another option would be IOR

>>29774039
I would say you would be better off with the PST
My PST 2.5-10 is great. Buddy has an an older XTR. Can't into actual "long range" for the time being, don't have the time to make it to the limited number of 600+ ranges in my area.
I won't lie though, I am a #vortexfanboi and desu I think Burris is junk after using their XTR 1-5
Time for a 1911 thread. Anyone shot or handled these new operators? I've been thinking of getting one.

Why both?
>>29773771
Sexual lubricant and smoke grenade is a Psilocybin aerosol device.
Should women be put in separate units like with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts?
>>29769462
No, they should be integrated into the same units. You know, like how it is going to happen.
>>29769462
Naw. That's just silly.
>>29769462
Only if they lower the bar for women. If they keep the same requirements for both men and women, there shouldn't be any problems. Besides, they're grown adults, not kids.
Mainly interested in the Schofields. Opinions? Thoughts?

So this is what its come to, they did some training where they allowed the EMTs to carry weapons and defend themselves alongside Law Enforcement officers and they did some solo training for situations where they would not have law enforcement back up.
EMTs going to be walking around with glocks on their hips soon.

No.

Could Americans win another revolution today?

A lot of people would die but eventually, yes.

What does /k/ think of Australia's new submarines? It seems like the Aussies have really been gearing up lately.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-36136628
>France has won a A$50bn (€34bn; £27bn) contract to build 12 submarines for the Australian Navy, beating bids from Japan and Germany.
does the propeller turn the other way since it's australian? what do they do once they cross the equator? my guess is magnets
>>29751745
>tfw Japan is buttmad their submarines went from top contender to being ruled out.
They're paying 50bn for 12 boats when French documents state that ten billion pays for 6 boats. My assumption is that's because the Aussies are planning to build the boats themselves.
Its funny, you either pay a premium and get blamed for overspending in order to improve your defense industry, or pay less and get called out for not supporting local jobs.
>>29751856
All 12 are being built in Australian shipyards
Where do you place your pouches on your PC.
I have a question about position of a radio pouch. I have three single mag pouches on the front of my PC with two double mag pouches either side of that. My IFAK is on my left side with an Admin panel on my chest. I don't know where to place my radio pouch though, should I bump my right double mag pouch back and slip my radio there?
You don't need seven magazines.
Get rid of your "admin" shit

Range stories regarding their new-to-gunz/hazgunz friends, Poor/Amazing range experiences, etc.
>Be inna Ocala shooting range
>Brought CoD friend who supposedly "knew everything about every gun ever because my dad was ex-special forces so he had to know how every gun works and he taught me ALSO HE OWNS A USP WHICH ONLY SUPERSOLDIERS CAN HAVE" (It's chambered in .40s&w)
> Shooting nugget, DB-15, Beretta Neos
>He is actually pretty OK with the DiamondBack, he at least understood how "the tactical assault rifle" worked
>Halfway through shooting, he says, "Hey hand me that russian SNIPER RAIFLE"
>I don't even have a scope mounted on it, or anything that would even suggest a long-distance shooting function
> Just grunt, "Okay," release floorplate to unload it, and hand it to him
>I take the DB and try to do stupid chris-costa tier crap with it (The exaggerated C-clamp was weirdly helpful, but it's probably because I have long arms)
>He taps me on my shoulder
>"Dude, I can't get the clip in."
>Makes sense, nugget stripper clips are really fidgety
>Engage safety, clear chamber, put down DB
>Try to see if I can help him, when HOLY MOTHER OF PALEBLOOD
>he has the magazine floorplate open
>he's trying to load the clip from the bottom like a box-fed magazine
LEARNING MOMENT
I'll share a few.
So this first one isn't a "range story" but more a story about one of those bullshitters you occasionally meet. The background is that me and my wife work with a few reptile breeders and a rescue and periodically do the trade shows.
>walking around show
>see another vendor we know
>talk with her a bit
>"oh yeah this is my new helper"
>guy seems okay, somehow get started on topic of guns
>I ask him if he competes at all
>he says he likes to do ipsc w/ 1911's
>discuss 1911's more
This is where it gets real bad.

>he says he owns a les Baer (fuck you I don't know how it's spelled)
>not just any les Baer, the one with the SN 0003 and 0008
>he also ownes one that he made all the parts for
>now he mentions being a marine scout sniper
>apparently knew Chris smith (Chris Kyle?) very well, said he was a sick fuck
>said in Iraq when guys would hide behind a wall he would double tap his 50 to breach down the wall and the second shot would kill
>apparently loads 300blk projectiles into a 7mm rifle using 30-06 brass
Please help me.
I have been shooting firearms at least once a week for the bast 2 months with ear muffs and I have this weird sound that won't go away in my ears.
It's a volumetric humming seashell sound accompanied by a high pitch 'fluid' sound.
What is going on?

Tinnitus?
>>29782148
Have you never heard of tinnitus, or is this bait/humour? You need to go see an ear doctor and INCREASE YOUR EAR PROTECTION. Wear double protection, in-ear with over-ear on top, ESPECIALLY if you're shooting in-doors.
If this was humour, which it almost certainly was but too drunk, then:
>can't come up with a funny EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE can't hear what you're saying so here's a funny thing.

How long will this last?
I'm a student at Iowa State we are placed in the little town of Ames.
Our town rarely has crime, so it was a shock to everyone when last Thursday, 5 black males robbed an apartment of a college student. The report said one man had a rifle, and they stole cellphones and cash.
They never found the guys, and this was severely disappointing. These monkeys had successfully committed a crime. YET they told everybody we had nothing to worry about and it was an ISOLATED incident.
I had notified the school that this would not be the case, I have some good experience studying criminology and I warned them it would happen again.
YEP the same guys just robbed an apartment again this Wednesday, 5 black males. But now THEY WERE ALL ARMED. 1 rifle, all the rest handguns. Needless to say i'm gonna need a good arsenal, because the cops are tards and cant find anybody.
What Gun's would you recommend for personal safety, and home defense against all these JAMALS.
Here are the reports of the two crimes,
